When I was a kid I wanted to be a farmer.

I no longer want to be a farmer.

I wanted to be a soldier.

No longer.

I wanted to own a bakery.

No longer.

I wanted to be a teacher. I dismissed that, but it came back, on & off again.

There is one path that has been on again off again (like teacher) from the start. It has been the only option that has seemed viable at all stages of my life. (All the rest leave. Even teacher was off the table for a while.) The only consistent (well, long term is more accurate then consistent) future I have visualized throughout the years is, well, death.

In between everything I wanted to be, an astronaut, a teacher, a baker, a librarian, a cook, a soldier, a dentist, a geologist, a musician, an author, a seamster, a circus performer, a shape shifting dog I don't care, in between all of these throughout the phases of my life there has been one thing that is consistent, coming back again & again, I might have wanted to be a librarian for a few months or was a job I considered among others throughout years, the jobs come & go, sometimes they come back again, my goals shift, sometimes these options are on the table & sometimes they are not, & the one thing that has always been on the table: nothing. Self cide.
