I LOVED roleplaying warrior cats with my friends as a child and one of my favorite roles to assume was the medicine cat. As the medicine cat I REALLY wanted to have actual herbs I could use, so I would forage and bring back plants that we could actually eat.
I was also paranoid, though, so we never ate anything if I had even a sliver of a doubt about it. We would drink the nectar from honeysuckles and purple dead nettles and eat wild blackberries. Never ate the juniper berries because we were so scared they were poisonous, lol
INGESTED not just chewed on to clarify lol. based on real responses from my groupchat

what the whole "please comment on fic you like, it will encourage more writing" vs. "fic writers shouldn't be writing for engagement and validation" debate fails to really grasp, for me, is that comments shouldn't be boiled down to "engagement and validation" in the first place. by which i mean: comments aren't payment for a service, they are communication and connection. they represent the audience reaching back.
i don't write just for myself. are you kidding me? the point of storytelling, to me, is to present certain narrative arguments and produce or encourage an emotional response to them. That communication is essentially useless if there's no endpoint, no listener. To me, there is no point if I'm not communicating with someone. When I write, I am talking to a reader. If you've read anything I've written, then I was talking TO YOU.
you are well within your right to consume fic as ~content~ and withhold your "payment" out of a sense that the writer should be satisfied at having created anything at all in an unresponsive void. but please be aware that it feels really good when you talk back.
#this#and also you gain nothing by withholding your comment#and make someone's day by commenting#there being a debate at all is wild because like. dont you want to be nice?#dont you want the author of the fic you just read to know you loved it and feel happy?#they wont know anyone liked it if no one tells them#and if no one likes their fics then they WILL stop sharing them.#now they wont be “writing for engagement” just like you wanted#and you wont have anything to read

This boy is so silly. He's autistic. He can do a shoryuken into a kick above his head. His favourite drink is milk. He probably has hearing damage. He has trauma from two days old. He said "nuh-uh" to his predestined death. He sleeps on a sofa in his garage fully clothed. He broke out of jail twice. He's completely broke. He can rollerskate. He's God's favourite chew toy.

When fic authors describe Jonouchi Katsuya's hair as dyed.
I get it, okay?
I get that usually you can find a blond delinquent in Japanese media and assume that the hair dying is an artifact of that. But we see that he's been blond since he was a kid, he wasn't rebelliously dying his hair to look like a thug when he was eight.
AND it's thematic okay!
People can assume Jou has dyed his hair and that changes their perceptions of him--they say ah he must be a violent thug, he's performing the Violent Thug Indicators. But he's not, and if he had been dying his hair when he was in the gang I think he would have stopped sometime after becoming friends with Yugi, as a physical demonstration of how he's leaving his violent past behind him.
The blond hair is just another way to indicate what assumptions people make about him not knowing the truth behind them.
For example blond hair = thug but really he's just half American and the hair is natural.
In duelist kingdom he really wants the money and people assume it's because he's poor and wants to spend it on getting cool stuff, but actually it's because his sister needs a surgery.
People choose Jou to duel because they believe he's an idiot and they can manipulate and beat him easily, and he is dumb and easily manipulated but also constantly surpassing people's expectations.
#op youre SO right and I'm incorporating this into my worldview IMMEDIATELY#jounouchi katsuya#joey wheeler#yugioh

we need more divorcebaiting. how strongly can canon imply (without technically outright stating) that these two characters are bitterly, acrimoniously divorced? essential we explore this

I find it interesting that when Godwin says this, they cut to Jack: the guy who very recently attempted to die alongside the love of his life so she wouldn’t die alone, and he wouldn’t have to be alone. It’s a small detail but it’s a special kind of brutal :(
