Last night as I was falling asleep I was contemplating how to make the cottagecore alps disco elysium game actually work, and here's some ideas:

you are a witch in a small village in the alps. you do not have much of a personality of your own- as a small business witch who relies on her local community to keep buying her products to survive, you have spent too long changing who you are to suit each individual customer, and rarely leave your cottage to fulfill your orders

your neighbor, an older woman, has lost her cat. she is one of your best customers. you offer to find her cat.

along the way, you learn about your local town. it's fantasy, so there are humans, elves, and dwarves. more on them later.

you also learn that there is a goblin refugee camp on the outskirts of the town. the mountain caves they lived in had a terrible collapse, and they were hoping that your town, as their closest neighbors and trade partners, would help

your town, for the most part, does not want to help.

in fact, a few of the local cats have gone missing. this has convinced the townspeople that the goblins are eating the cats.

they are not eating the cats- due to poverty, they primarily eat offal, bad bread and plants inedible to humans. not cats.

the goblins are quite scared. they have lived in these caves for generations, and have mined them for magic crystals. they have no home, work, and now the townspeople are threatening them with violence

there is a small handful of sympathetic townspeople: the wizard who works in the wizard tower and is unliked because he is arrogant and has been warning the town for years that the crystal mines are unstable and likely to collapse, the wizard's underpaied assistant, a knight who has traveled the world and came back different, and an angry teen girl who gets angrier the more her opinions are cast aside due to her being an angry teen girl

anyway, the town is mostly humans

the smallest group is elves, who are generally wealthy and own most property in town

in the middle are dwarves, who once flocked to the region to mine the crystal caves. as work dwindled, they integrated more into town. though they were in similar positions to the goblins just a generation or two ago, they mostly have no sympathies

at the end of the game you do not fix the refugee crisis

however you do find out that a few of the local cats, due to living so close to magic crystals, have cultivated sentience. your neighbor's cat decides to go home to the old woman. he may be technically free in the cat colony, but the old woman raised him from when he was a suckling kitten. she is older now, and needs help. the cat loves her. because the cat loves, the cat wants to help.
