Upon Reflection...
I think the Neuetradition trend reflects my personality in various ways, hence why I chose it.
The ideas driving the trend immediately caught my attention -- it is focused on deconstruction and sustainability. I like the idea of taking tradition, for example, and evolving it into something fresh and new.
I ran with that idea by getting most of the items in my photo shoots from the thrift store or found them already in my closet.
I also liked the the use of color in the Neuetradition trend. I am not a colorful person, although my favorite color is pink, so this trend spoke to me on that level as well.
I think some key takeaways from these various photo shoots is this:
1.) Check the weather
2.) Be clear and concise with what you want from yourself and others
3.) Choose a trend, but don’t lose yourself in the trend - find yourself instead
4.) Take as many photos as possible, there is bound to be a good one in there
5.) Show the model how he/she looks in photos so they can make improvements
6.) And lastly, lighting makes a huge difference

“Urban Jungle” photographed by Derek Letterine, June 2018
I wanted to explore the city of Pittsburgh and take into account the little details that go unnoticed, like unique graffiti on less traveled side streets. My sister is styled in distressed jeans, a bathing suit worn as a top, and her go-to black Vans. This outfit is simple but eye-catching due to the extreme distressing of the jeans, gold jewelry and camouflage backpack.

“Day Becomes Night” by Derek Letterine, June 2018
I wanted to simultaneously play with the idea of what is “acceptable” to wear to an office and to a bar. Shot in the Strip District in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, this outfit can take you almost anywhere throughout the entire course of a day. The blazer and fitted floral pants add refinement, but the linen t-shirt and fringe bra (later worn as a top) add an unexpected relaxed vibe to the outfit, as do the gem sandals. I kept the jewelry minimal: a name necklace and a stainless steel ring on the thumb. A faux leather backpack was thrown into the mix because why not? It goes with nearly everything and is the perfect blend of sporty and chic all in one.

“The Shining” photographed by Derek Letterine, May 2018
For my first shoot, I wanted to reinterpret sportswear. My sister and I found this amazing gold jacket (shoulder pads included) and the Nike “JUST DO IT” sports bra in the same Salvation Army on the same day. Was it fate? I think so...  We headed downtown to the top of a parking garage on Boulevard of the Allies in downtown Pittsburgh, close to my old college, to produce this shoot. Although it was scorching hot, my sister did a good job dealing with the heat these in these faux leather leggings I found in Zara a few years ago in Los Angeles. Although the outfit features only two colors - black and gold - I think the pieces are loud and call for a confident wearer. Thanks to my sister, she succeeded.

“Karan`s First Collection: An Instant Hit” by Genevieve Buck, May 08, 1985
NEW YORK — Donna Karan introduced her first fashion collection under her own name late last week and declared unabashedly, ``There is nothing like it anywhere.`` She and it were an immediate hit.
Women`s Wear Daily called it ``sheer perfection.``
``These are not clothes we are looking at,`` Karan said before the formal presentation.
``This is not fashion we are talking about; this is a concept,``maintained the designer, 36, who has been creating Anne Klein clothes for 11 years.
Her concept revolves around basic pieces of a wardrobe, beginning with a bodysuit and including long and short wool jersey tube skirts and classic pants, along with coats, jackets and all the beads and bags, shoes, gloves, tights and stockings that one would need for day into evening next fall.
The interchangeable core pieces are black, though there are other neutrals such as gray, beige, white and some tawny golden shades, particularly in coats and jackets.
Karan referred to her collection as a ``marrying of the male and female--the tailoring is male, but the clothes are meant for the shape and form of the woman. They are pieces to make life function, meant for women who don`t want to go through racks and racks of clothes.``

Donna Karan (born October 2, 1948), also known as "DK", is an American fashion designer and the creator of the Donna Karan New York and DKNY clothing labels.
Karan began her career as an assistant designer to Anne Klein in the late 1960s, where she was eventually promoted to associate designer in 1971. When Klein died in 1974, Takihyo Corporation of Japan became the new owner and Karan, together with her former classmate and friend Louis Dell'Ollio, became head designer of the house.
In 1984, Karan left Anne Klein and, together with her then husband Stephan Weiss and the Takihyo Corporation, started her own business "to design modern clothes for modern people". She showed her first women's clothing collection in 1985.
Karan became well known for her 'Essentials' line, initially offering seven pieces that could be mixed and matched to create a fully integrated wardrobe. The ‘Essentials’ line is credited as creating the concept of a capsule wardrobe.
Donna Karan has grown to be a full lifestyle brand for men and women. In addition to apparel, it includes handbags, accessories, lingerie, eyewear, bedding and tableware, beauty products and fragrances.
In 1989, Karan, by then nicknamed The Queen Of Seventh Avenue’ extended her brand by creating diffusion line DKNY. Two years later, she created DKNY Jeans, a denim-inspired collection. DKNY for men was launched in 1992, a year after the 'Signature' line for men was launched. In the S/S 2014 New York season, DKNY celebrated its 25th birthday. The anniversary collection was the line’s ‘greatest hits’ modernised for 2014.
In 2015, Karan announced that she would be stepping down as head of her company to focus on her lifestyle brand, Urban Zen, established by Karan in 2007.

Life in the 1980s
Americans enjoyed many fundamental changes in their standard of living in the 1980s. One major transformation was the new, expanded role of television. Cable television, although available in the 1970s, became standard for most American households. This change ushered in a whole host of new programming.
The videocassette recorder (VCR) allowed Americans to record television shows and watch them according to their own schedule and view feature films in the privacy of their own homes.
But perhaps the product that introduced the greatest change in American lifestyles of the 1980s was the personal computer. Introduced by Apple in 1977, the personal computer allowed management of personal finances, quick word-processing, and desktop publishing from the home. Businesses could manage payroll, mailing lists, and inventories from one small machine. Gone were the ledgers of the past.
Young Urban Professionals, or yuppies, replaced the socially conscious hippie of the previous generation of youth. Yuppies sought executive track jobs in large corporations and spent their money on upscale consumer products like Ray-Ban sunglasses, Polo apparel, and Mercedes and BMW automobiles. The health and fitness industry exploded as many yuppies engaged in regular fitness routines.
The term "glass ceiling" was popularized in the 1980s. "Glass ceiling" means an invisible upper limit in corporations and other organizations, above which it is difficult or impossible for women to rise in the ranks.  "Glass ceiling" is a metaphor for the hard-to-see informal barriers that keep women from getting promotions, pay raises and further opportunities.  The "glass ceiling" metaphor has also been used to describe the limits and barriers experienced by minority racial groups.
The hedonism of the 1970s was being re-evaluated. Many drugs, which were considered recreational in the '70s, were revealed as addictive, deadly substances. First Lady Nancy Reagan's message to "Just Say No" to drugs became more powerful. Regardless, newer and more dangerous substances like crack cocaine exacerbated the nation's drug problem.
The sexual revolution was rocked by the spread of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome, or AIDS. This deadly disease was most commonly communicated by sexual contact and the sharing of intravenous needles. With the risks of promiscuous behavior rising to a mortal level, monogamy and "safe sex" with condoms were practiced more regularly. While greed may have been rewarded in the '80s, lust, be it for drugs or sex, proved fatal for thousands.
