Ellie Ivanova
Ellie Inovava is a Bulgarian-born fine art photographer whose interests are interconnected with literature. She is interested in the experience of memory and identity with traditional and experimental formats. Ivanova has an MFA in photography from the University of North Texas and her works have been exhibited in several museums such as in in the Fort Wayne Museum of Art and Human Rights Art at South Texas College. She intends to move forwards with workshops to lead marginalized children to empowerment.
This was an image taken from Ivanova's website. A very mystifying image, it does display her fascination when it comes to experimenting with the medium of photography. I cannot tell what sort of techniques she used to take this photograph but I assume she set the shutter speed low to get these visual effects or ran them through an editing software.

Mads Nissen
Mads Nissen is a danish photographer who is based in Copenhagen, Denmark. He is a very emotionally driven photographer who believes in confronting problems such as humanity destroying nature, inequality, and the violation of human rights. He graduated from the Danish School of Media and Journalism in 2007; after, he went to document China's historic economic rise in Shanghai. He has worked as a staff photographer in the Danish daily Politiken, which has garnered a reputation for being committed to visual journalism. He has been published in other companies such as Time, Newsweek, CNN, etc.
This photo was taken from Mads's website. It was during COVID-19, and the Brazilians were facing the worst outbreaks. This image is a good example of the visual journalism that Nissen is fond of. It is very bittersweet, the warm hug being contrasted with the tragic plastic wraps they have to use in order to not spread any illnesses. The gold outsides of the wrap also plays into a bit of irony being a color of joy in a moment of joy but being contrasted by the grim situation they face.

Newsha Tavakolian
Newsha Tabakolian is a Iranian photographer who specializes in documentary photography and capturing the human emotions in her artworks. Her career as a photographer started back when she was 16 and working for her daily newspaper. From there she began to delve deeper into her career by combining portraiture with documentary. She has received several awards like the Carmiganac Gestion Award, the Prince Claus Awards; additionally, she has been in several exhibitions and some of her art pieces are in private collections such as in the Victoria & Albert Museum. the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
This is a photograph that was taken from the Smithsonian website. It has a real emphasis on the woman in the center from the color of her clothes standing out among the very dreary background. It does a good job of creating a story where I can guess the woman is trying to keep a colorful life but the circumstances of her area are not allowing her to be truly happy.

Juanita Escobar
Juanita Escobar is a photographer born in Cali, Colombia. She is a self-taught photographer that emphasizes gender exploration and territory through her work. Escobar originally left her home city to document a nature reserve known as the Eastern Plains, otherwise known to her as Los Llanos Orientales. She has been awarded with prizes such as Colombian National Photography Prize in 2009 and the Portfolio Review Prize from National Geographic Society in 2016.
This photo is based off the nature reserve and from what I looked it up on Project Noah, it appear to be a sort of mushroom called helosis cayennensis, a very rare type of plant. The bright red color really stands out in the very dark background, like an anomaly which is fitting for this plant.

Harry Gruyaert
Harry Gruyaert is a Belgian photographer, and another member of Magnum Photos after joining in 1982. His background is that of a strict Catholic background, where his family heavily restricted his pursuit of photography. He then left his homeland and traveled throughout Europe. Gruyaert has been featured in plenty of exhibitions and has been the solo artist in exhibitions such as MOROCCO. Just as how his inspiration into photography may suggest, a lot of his artwork focuses heavily on the color aspect.
This artwork is a good demonstration of using color balance and direction in tandem. A lot of the colors on the right side are muted and everyone is staring in the same direction except for the one girl in front.

Alec Scoth
Alec Soth is an American photographer, born in 1969; his artwork is based more around the tradition of documentary photography. He is based in Minneapolis–Saint Paul, USA, is a full fledged Magnum Photos, and has a fellowship with the Guggenheim, McKnight, Bush, and Jerome Foundations. Soth was additionally awarded with the 2003 Santa Fe Prize for Photography. In his page on Magnum Photos, it states his thoughts about photography is more fragmented, as if it is more poetry than like writing a novel. A lot of his works are of people in general. None of the photos seem glamorized, outside of some photos for events that people were dressed nice for, a lot of the subjects felt more relatable and the works featured on the page were in a more retro setting.
This photo is of a woman and I assume her date as they were at the movie festival. From the film style and clothes the people were wearing, I would have expected this was taken way back in the day but turns out it was taken in 2012 and not in the 1990s. I feel simultaneously impressed but also feel a little bad as I feel old despite being in my 20s.

Keisha Scarville
Keisha Scarville is a film photographer who has been creating artwork ever since 1999. She delves into a few themes like memory, family history, Caribbean geography, and identity. As described in an interview, she became particularly interested in exploring the idea of identity from her childhood of going back and forth from New York and Guyana. A lot of her earlier works were attributed to that, such as Many Waters and I Am Here. She has been a part of several exhibits like "If I Had a Hammer – Fotofest Biennial, Houston (2022)" and "I Belong to This, Huxley-Parlour Gallery, London (2021)." Just as previously stated, her photos mostly focus on her Guyanese background. My impressions on how the photos look is that they emphasize the human body, appearing to be leaning more into her Guyanese background. There is also quite a number of abstract images.
This is an image I decided to pull from the interview page, titled "Keisha Scarville, Many Waters (silver nails)". From the film noir aesthetic and context that she was using her camera to film her family back then, I can infer that this was based on her daily life from a child. It gives a very homey vibe, I get the impression that this is taken place on a hot midday or morning and this person is probably either going to wash clothes outside and leave them to dry or some other activity with the bucket she has in her hand.

Theme Proposal
What I want to photograph are the operations of FIRM or the Fresno Interdenominational Ministries. I want to take photos of the volunteer work I do for them as well as hopefully take photos of the refugees.
I want to photograph this because I am already volunteering for them for another project so it would be a good opportunity to learn even more about them. After volunteering for one of their events and talking to some of their employees I feel more encouraged to ask them more about how involved I can be. I need the experience in an active working environment. I also have a bit of an interest in learning more about the lives of others, so this gives me more of a reason to do so.
I would like to capture the scenes as they happen as the raw story of refugees are just more powerful than if they were posed for camera. However, this changes if I am with other volunteer workers, namely because I could use these photos to help them advertise themselves. I intend on gaining permission through attending a meeting with the supervisor over there. I believe there should not be any particularly special equipment required for me.
I want my audience to have some sympathy for the trials and tribulations that the people are experience while being helped out by FIRM. I want people to learn that even though the process to gain citizen sucks, that there are people like them that helps make it more tolerable.

Weekend
I always wake up to the mess on my work space and think to myself "I'll do it tomorrow" but then feel exhausted after the day ends and then I never do it.
My family likes to steal the mandarinas when they are in season since we live in the fields.
I went with my dad to sell of the recyclables. It pays out more than expected when we keep every single one until then.
This is my dog, his name is Zeus. My dad made a shed that also doubled as his house so he sleeps there. He injured his leg recently because he was jumping on the fence while barking at another dog. He's not that smart.
Some horse riders come by here and there around my house and my dogs go ballistic when they pass so we always keep the gate closed.
I decided to walk on this road as a trip down memory lane so to speak. This was originally very torn apart but I guess the workers fixed that. This was also the same road where I crashed the truck into a tree back when I was newer to driving because it was next to a ditch.
This was the ditch in question, it usually never looks this clean. Once when I came here with my sister, the entire surface at the bottom was covered in some white substance and we saw a dead possum on the ground. I was sad I could not find it again just to take the photo.
My sisters and I decided to go on a trip so we went to Woodrow Park and I took some shots over there
My sister's and I do not hang around together all the time ever since she moved out so it's nice to do things like this.
Yes, my sister takes photos a lot. Every time a holiday comes out, she and my mom make me take like 80 of them.

Fabian Ritter
Fabian Ritter is a freelance German photographer who is a member of the DOCKS collective, a group consisting of 5 members including himself. He was born near in the mountain areas and gained a bachelors in University of Applied Sciences and Arts, Dortmund. Ritter interests lie in social phenomena and tensions and takes these in a documentary style approach; an example would be his investment into the Russia and Ukraine war. Ritter has been in several exhibitions, multiple in Europe and placed highly in photo competitions. He was a finalist in the Sony World Photography Awards in Tokyo, Japan and made an appearance in the Museum of Photographic Arts in San Diego. Ritter's works are mostly nothing being overtly violent, in fact plenty of his works look rather quiet in appearance. However, there is usually a story that adds another layer of either solemness or tragedy, usually being the aftermath of some disaster.
The photo below was the first one I decided to take. It seemed like a rather peaceful photo but it was actually taken amidst the turmoil of the Russia and Ukraine war. The article this was taken for detailed about the joys and innocence of the youth was stripped away by the advances of the Russian Army.

Hello, my name is Luis Ramirez! I am a senior in Fresno State University, majoring in Graphic Design.
I joined Art 30 primarily because of the requirements to get my degree. Additionally, I thought it would be a more fun experience due to my time in high school where I did work on photography. What I hope to get out of photography is a better grasp on compositions, getting me outside of the house more often. My hobbies include gaming and playing around with doodles.
