22/10/18 I decided to start posting my own photos again. It feels good to document your days, just little moments from time to time. Maybe I’ll even do book reviews sometimes, because I have lots of books to talk about but I don’t have anyone around me, so tumblr will welcome that, I guess… By the way, I’m currently on my gap year if you’re interested, I’m going to resit my exams next year so I could study linguistics at some really good uni. For now, I’m studying at my own pace, taking private study sessions with tutors, and not stressing 24/7 about everything. If you’re somehow reading this, hope you’re having a good day (or had, doesn’t matter)

Views of the river from our stay in Ljubljana. It was still so peaceful even being right above of all the cute cafés and bars ✨

#Studyblrs get real
Ight so it’s so unbelievably not funny how many hours of productivity I’ve lost to mental health issues that I’m here to give y’all a study method for those in the same boat as me.
.
.
For a little background, I struggle with anxiety, perfectionist tendencies, and procrastination, among other things. This sucks a hell of a lot, as it constantly clashes with my passion of language learning. Self study in particular is a nightmare—I have plenty of time to work but am always getting in the way of myself. To give an example, here’s a picture of my language notebooks:
Tumblr media
Wow, so impressive, right? If you’d open them up, all ten would only extend 10-15 pages in and then the rest is blank. Yeah. Organization, focus, neatness, consistency, actual work, who are they?
.
.
I’m nowhere near perfect, but here’s my method for trying to get stuff done.
.
.
1)) Get a notebook (one per lang)
this is for notetaking and writing practice~just throw it all in there
-take crude, messy notes
-use the whole page
-divide notes by lines, double spaces etc.
-use a main color for writing
-use a colored pen or two to circle, star, etc.
Ex:

2)) Get large/lined notecards
these are for writing your clean notes onto
-make a heading
** just grammar points here, not for vocab lists! (you can if you want tho-make it yours!)
-condense notebook info into vital stuff
-keep it simple yet complete!
-make bullets/leave spaces
-this is the place for prettiness and color
Ex:

If your notecard is ugly, just toss it and get a new one! It’s easier to fix a small card than to redo a whole sheet.
If you have a lot of info to squeeze in, you can try to condense it more, use the back, or try to find 2 sub topics so you can make 2 cards instead of one.
When Studying:
Take your messy notes in the notebook, then take a break. Come back to put transfer/condense the info onto your notecards later. This is your revision. Of course you can always flip through them later as well.
-only make 1-2 cards at a time! Don’t work to much.
I also like to keep my cards in a little holder as well:

I hope this helps someone out or even just shows that it’s okay to have a heckin quirky study method. Do you!

Fun Fact!: I have a deferred chemistry exam at the end of this month
(Okay, maybe not that fun of a fact)
Trying my best to get through my revision but honestly not feeling that great about it. Here’s hoping this week goes well!

some notes on the theory behind documentary film. focused on direct cinema/cinema verite and the different types of implementation of it in several countries with different views on the true meaning of the documentary!
also started my day early and saw my psychiatrist, i find it important to prioritize mental health while in school if I don’t want to resent these years

Please, never let school or work take precedence over your health. Yes, doing well in school or work is important, but it’s not more important than your health. Take time to eat, take time to sleep. If you’re sick, give yourself time to heal. There is no use working yourself to the bone if you’re not healthy enough to enjoy the rewards.
