I fell in love (with you) in stages - (Ch 1/?)
Pairing: Eventual Steve Harrington x Henderson!Reader..
Warnings: Erm, spoilers for all seasons, some swearing and **SLOW BURN**
A/N: I am a SUCKER for a slow burn, kinda enemies to friends to lovers trope. First time writing a Stranger Things fic... more characters will appear in later chapters.
(Also reader works in a made up diner so I can throw in a few references to scenes in one of my favourite rom-coms- bonus points to you if you guess which one).

“Hey...” You gestured at the missing poster with a picture of Will that Jonathan was pinning to the school notice board. He looked so young in the picture. “Any news?”
You’d heard from your younger brother, Dustin that Will had gone missing. He’d been missing for over 24 hours and the police had combed the entire town with no success. Things...did not look good.
Jonathan pressed the final tac into the board with more force than was needed and then leant forward, his head against the display.
“No...nothing...he’s been gone over a day...they found his bike...he loved that bike... he wouldn’t just leave it” his mouth was pulled into a tight line. “My moms not holding up too well,”
You offered him a sympathetic look. “I can’t...imagine how you’re feeling.... look anything you need...”
“It’s my fault...” Jonathan interrupted, his hand balling into a fist “if I hadn’t covered for Eric at work none of this would be happening,”. He turned to face you. His voice was hoarse, like he’d been crying “I’d have been there for Will getting home, and none of this would have happened,”
You placed a hand on his arm “none of this is your fault, Jonathan. Wills going to be okay... I’m sure of it, Dustin is too,” you offered. “Look...I’ll cover for you at work, Dustin and the other kids wanna help with the search...they’re usually at the Wheelers, I think they’re staying there tonight,”
Almost as if she’d heard her name, Nancy appeared beside Jonathan and she shifted awkwardly, from one foot to the other.
“Hey...I...just wanted to say...I’m sorry about everything, everyone is thinking about you,” she spoke hesitant and quiet. She threw a gaze back to her group of Steve Harrington, Barb Holland, Tommy H and Carol.
Yeah. You could imagine what they were thinking. Surprised she was even talking to the likes of you or Jonathan with her new friends watching.
“I’m sure he’s fine...he’s a smart kid...” The second of silence between Nancy’s words and the bell hung heavy in the air before she excused herself.
“I gotta go too,” you nodded towards the hall “I have work tonight but I promise we’ll do what we can for you,”
******
The bell jangled as the glass door was pushed open, signalling a new customer.
Ah crap. It was Steve and his idiot sidekicks
You’d seen them come in to the diner a few times. Most often it was Steve, Tommy H and Carol and sometimes whatever girl Steve was dating. It was rarely the same girl for more than a month. The flavour of this month was Nancy Wheeler seemingly. If you hadn’t seen them together earlier, you’d have struggled to believe the rumours but from the sight of his arm dangled over her shoulder, it seemed they were true.
You watched them out of the corner of your eye as they took a seat in....
“[Name] Table 5 please!” Tony your manager clapped his hands at you, barely giving you a second to drop off Table 9s drinks.
Great.
“On it, Tony!” You called over your shoulder and bracing yourself.
Serving people from school was awkward enough let alone King Steve and his douchebag friends. Tommy especially always seemed to think the idea of you working was somewhat hilarious...like he couldn’t fathom the idea that some people might need to work to pay for things.
The conversation about their “party” stopped abruptly as you approached the table and you fought the urge to draw your eyes. It was not like their parties were a massive secret...especially not with Carol and her big mouth boyfriend.
“Hello, Welcome to Cherry Street diner, I’ll be your server today, how can I help?” You spoke in the best professional ‘waitress’ tone you could muster. Phoning it in.
Tommy scoffed “Nice outfit,” Carol giggled, she popped her gum loudly and you felt all eyes on you as they waited for your reaction.
“Thank you for your feedback I’ll be sure to pass that on to management,” a fake smile filled your face, your voice sweet and saccharine “Alternatively we do have a vacancy if you’d like one for yourself or do you prefer other people doing your work like you do in English,”
An amused snort came from Steve Harrington and you looked at him surprised. He’d never so much as acknowledged you beyond asking you if you had a spare pencil. You were almost convinced he didn’t even know you existed outside of bringing him coffee and passing him stationary...which he never gave back.
Tommy stammered for a response and when he couldn’t find one, you moved on jotting down the orders in your notepad.
“Don’t laugh,” Carol rested her head back on Tommy, her feet propped up on a spare seat. chair,. “Henderson shouldn’t speak to him like that,”. Tommy began kissing at his girlfriend “Tommy’s smart in different ways,”
Yeah right, Tommy once threw a ruler at your head to get your attention then asked you how to spell ‘because’.
“Oh come on man it was at least a little funny,” Steve shrugged.
Silently you sighed, hopefully they’d leave for their party soon and you could get on with actually working. Much to your relief they left within half an hour and you got to finish your shift in peace.
When you arrived home you were quick to call the Wheelers and confirm Dustin was actually there. You knew he and his friends would probably have gone out searching for Will and you also knew trying to stop them was futile. If you told him no, he’d just go anyway. The best you could do is tell him you’d call at a certain time and if he wasn’t there you’d call the chief. Luckily Dustin had been there, he’d came on the phone, gave a quick confirmation that he’d be staying at Mikes and hung up before you’d had so much as a chance to ask anything else.
They were probably just playing D&D or something after searching...You brushed it off, semi comforted by the knowledge that at least they were safe at the Wheelers and that they were at least all together.
You changed, wiped off your make up and collapsed into bed, falling asleep before you knew it.
********
The day passed by without much happening and you were relived when you could finally get home.
“Hey, hey, Henderson aren’t you gunna take my order....my order is...stop being such a loser” Tommy yelled after you as you crossed the parking lot. It had taken him all of a day to come up with THAT. From his girlfriends reaction, it was clearly the funniest thing she’d ever heard.
You placated yourself, ignored him and got into your car pushing all your things onto the passenger side.
Dustin had for whatever reason taken half of the snacks in the kitchen so you’d made a mental note to swing by the store on the way home. As you readied yourself to leave for the day, desperate to just get home and relax, your eyes flitted back up to see an altercation between Steve, Tommy and Jonathan Byers. You couldn’t hear anything but you felt like you should wait...
Your fingers tightened around the wheel, as you watched Steve “accidentally” drop Jonathan’s camera and the second they walked away, you stepped out of your car and headed over to Jonathan, where you dropped to your knees and began helping him pick up his photographs and what was left of his camera.
“Your new boyfriend is a real jerk, you know that?” You addressed Nancy who was still standing there, a sudden interest in the strap of her book bag. “His brothers missing, with our brothers being Wills best friends, you think you’d be a bit more understanding” She looked some what sheepish. She paused for only a few seconds, gathering a torn picture to take with her before Harrington called her away. Maybe you shouldn’t have snapped at her but still it was infuriating.
“He’s an ass” you handed Jonathan what you’d bundled together. “I hope you can fix it, your camera I mean...”
“Tell me about it,” He averted his gaze “Thanks,” he nodded before leaving quickly.
*******
The front door slamming made you jump. You weren’t expecting anyone home for hours and you’d been grateful for the time to study alone with your records.
Cautiously you made your way towards your room door, tensed. You open the door slowly and and made your way into the hall, stopping in your tracks when you saw your younger brother beside the front door, breathless, teary eyed and looking like he’d seen a ghost.
“Dustin? What the hell is going on?”
“It’s...it’s Will,” his voice was hoarse. “We done everything and....” Dustin rubbed his eyes with the back of his hand before trailing off, you could hear the lump in his throat.
You dropped down to his level “What is? What’s wrong,”. The pit of your stomach already knew it wasn’t good.
Dustin threw his arms around you and buried his head in your shoulder, tears spilling as you rubbed circles on his back until he managed to catch enough air to gulp out the two words that made your heart sink.
“He’s gone,”

Spiderman 3 idea: Peter Parker is played by Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield, and Tobey Maguire at random intervals during the movie. They replace each other from scene to scene. At one point, Tobey Maguire enters a bathroom, Tom Holland goes into a stall, and Andrew Garfield steps out. There is a moment when there's two spidermen on screen.
Nobody question or even notices it.

Good morning everyone! The success you’re looking for is in the work you’re avoiding. Be retrospective today in order to figure out your next course of action. You don’t have to keep everyone else’s pace if you have taken the time to look deep inside yourself and figure out what is best for you in order to achieve your goals.
