I'm really into History and Astronomy and I do... Stuff, Lots of Stuff! Though I'll mainly make posts about Art, the history behind famous Photos and just some general thoughts. :)

The Photo
The 'Pillars of Creation', such a Beautiful and Interesting sight! The famous photo was taken by the Hubble Space Telescope in 1995, and the new high-res versions in 2014. It depicts a Elephant Trunk, an interstellar matter formation found in molecular clouds.
The 'Pillars of Creation' are located near the Eagle Nebula about 7,000 to 6,500 light years away from us and are made of interstellar Gas and Dust!
This formation is called 'Pillars of Creation' for a reason! The Gas and Dust of which it is made out of are creating new stars and planets, while also slowly being eroded by the light from recently formed stars.
Possible Destruction
Later Photos taken by the Spitzer Space Telescope show a cloud of hot dust near the Formation, which suggests that the 'Pillars of Creation' might have been destroyed by the shock wave of a supernova 6,000 years ago, but since light travels at a finite speed, the destruction of the formation will be visible to us in about 1,000 years.
It is to be noted that this is just a theory, and has been disproved as a shock wave from a supernova would have resulted in stronger radio and x-ray radiations than the ones observed. Still, the only way to know if it's still there for now is to wait 1,000 years!
