The difference between the first time we see Sebastian go to eat Ciels soul vs. the most recent time during the emerald witch arc melts my little sebaciel heart.

The first time, he is aiming for it. He wants to trick Ciel into giving up the deal preemptively. To get the meal he craves. He doesn't care for the boy, he sees an opportunity to get what he wants and he acts.

It is only after he realises how much better his meal will be that he relents. Though he does seem to gain genuine respect for his resolve here, allowing himself to bow fully before his master. Something he doesn't do quite so often as his typical bow where he still towers over the boy. It is still the meal to him

When he goes to eat Ciels soul in this arc, there is no joy to the game. Rather than convince him to give in, he's trying one last time to get through to him. He doesn't Want Ciel to give in anymore. He's continuing to prolong the inevitable, which he does everytime he insists he stop and heal, that he rests and takes breaks. Something that clearly he didn't initially see as part of the contract, as he didn't really take such things seriously till Agni pointed them out to him.

He seems remorseful as he approaches his master and decides it's his only option. Holding his face to his and looking into his eyes. Unlike the first time, where he aims for his back. It's much more personal and intimate now.

He says he couldn't help himself, but clearly he COULD. Sebastian 3 years ago would of devoured him at the first sign of weakness, not waited and stayed by his side. He waited till he had to act, hoping to snap his master out of it and being so proud that Ciel was as strong willed as he thought.

Just look at them, the soft looks. The understanding. Sebastians smile and pure RELIEF that their time was not yet up. It's not just about the meal anymore.

You could be having the most fucked up problematic thoughts 24/7 but if you treat people with kindness, the good you do is the only thing that matters. But if you have only the purest thoughts and all the correct beliefs, it doesn't matter one bit if you spend most of your time being an asshole to people.
