Kazuha liked to nap on warm surfaces.

Hence his sudden request to “borrow your lap for a moment.”

You looked at him weirdly, then, not expecting him to be so brazen. Unrepentant, too — not at all bothered by saying such an outrageous thing so blatantly as if he only commented on the good weather. You wouldn't say you were reserved, but you were almost impressed by his forwardness.

Still, you couldn't find a single (1) good reason for letting him do as he pleased.

For one, you definitely weren't doing it from the goodness of your heart. You weren't a saint; had it been anyone else other than him, you'd already have turned away without even considering it.

That didn't make it any less weird, though. In fact, it was stranger. Why was he an exception?

“This is called a lap pillow,” Kazuha explained, as if that would make things better. It did not. “It's a common practice back where I came from.”

For lovers, he left unsaid.

He made himself comfortable laying on the dewy grass — an admirable feat, you would say, he had a talent for being capable of snoozing literally anywhere — and rested his head on your thighs. You wondered if they were soft enough for his liking... and immediately shook those odd thoughts away.

“Is it also common to do it in broad daylight?” you inquired sarcastically, gesturing to the onlookers who glanced at you with critical gazes. “There's people everywhere... and innocent children playing.”

Kazuha smiled. “We're not doing anything indecent, are we?”

You narrowed your eyes at him. “I suppose... that isn't false...” you agreed with reluctance, sighing in defeat. “Alright. Do as you like.”

A hum of response, and then nothing more. Guessing he was fast asleep, you busied yourself with perusing through your novel, immersed in your own reading.

The spring breeze was pleasantly cool, caressing your skin. The children's laughter was light and cheery, enthusiastic as they flew their kites high into the air, and mild chatter streamed amongst the townspeople, all lively conversations and amused chuckling. Kazuha remained complacent on your lap, unruffled by the white noise, and warmth spread across your cheeks.

This... wasn't so bad.

Slowly, though, you came to notice the amplified radiance of sunlight when you flickered to the next page, prompting you to peek at the endless sky. A vivid blue, with no clouds overhead; this would normally be taken as good news, but...

You dropped your line of sight to your companion dozing off below you, showing small signs of discomfort from the abrupt brightness. His brows were drawn together, eyes shut tightly. Huffing out a laugh, you deliberately positioned your book where it could shield him from the blazing light.

“I'm pampering him too much.”

You do, he thought, blearily opening his eyes when he got curious about the absence of irritating sunbeams. Your considerate nature brought a fond smile to his face, and his eyes fluttered close once more, allowing himself to bask in your kindness.

He wondered if you'd let him do this in the future again.
