Importance of Architecture
"Define architecture." is a basic inquiry that architects pose to themselves; it is both straightforward and intricate at the same time. In many parts of the world, architecture is one of the most significant remnants of early human civilization. Architecture's primary purpose is to construct the physical surroundings in which individuals live. In architecture, connections include economic (force, longevity), pragmatic (motive, usefulness), and visual (attractiveness). Making sure that the structure of architecture is cohesive and harmonious throughout is one of the most crucial responsibilities in the construction of an appealing structure or establishment. Each limit that an architect creates will have an impact on the individuals who inhabit the place, and by extension, society at large, either positively or negatively. Because our culture and civilization are reflected in and influenced by architecture, it has always done so.

Should We or Shouldn't We
The Philippines holds some of the greatest and most relevant architectural designs in the world. The country is historically rich in culture and traditions, and architecture is one of its ways to reflect these cultural identities. Preserving historical structures also has great advantages in academic and research value. Historical structures are instructional assets that offer great developing prospects to students, researchers, and scholars. These provide perspectives on numerous elements of history, architecture, art, and cultural evolution, resulting in a more thorough understanding of the history of mankind. The only downside of preserving historical structures is restricted operation and access. Due to preservation considerations, certain historical places may have restricted access for the general population or daily use. Public interaction and appreciation of certain locations may be restricted as a result.

Demolition or Preservation
Architecture has always remained a significant element in history. It's an important factor in determining the cultures and traditions people used to have during a certain era. The first architecture style known to man was the Greek revival. It's style is so unique one could imagine how it looks without seeing a picture. One of it's notable elements are the Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian columns that's still known and relevant to this day. If people back then had the greek revival buildings demolished, we wouldn't know of it's beauty today. Architecture is already a dead passion in our country and continuing to demolish historical buildings will completely wipe it off from the career map. According to the article, the reason why people wanted to demolish the fire station in Sta. Ana was to make way for road widening. I say it reflects their incompetency in making an effective road plan as it affects a historically significant structure. The demolition of this structure will heavily affect the historical background of Architecture we have in the Philippines.
Human beings have naturally curious minds. When someone sees a remarkable building they often think, "How is that building made?", "Who built that?", "What were the materials used?", "Was Architecture like that back then?". Preserving buildings is one of the ways to answer these questions and being able to answer these questions is what makes Architecture alive. Further demolishing historically significant buildings will only make a dystopian future, not only for Architecture but for the entirety of society. Demolishing is how we kill dreams and aspirations. Preserving is how we keep our dreams and passion alive.

Zero Carbon Revolution
The Philippines is a third-world country mostly known for its tropical nature and cuisine. But slowly, as the population grows, so does pollution. The mixture of smoke and fog slowly thickens and slowly covers the entirety of a city. Trash and garbage can be seen on streets, scattered around, becoming a haven for diseases and bacteria. Houses are cramped with one another violating building codes over and over. Residentials lives are at stake with this desperation for shelter but they can only do so much. The future of the Philippines with a clean environment seems bleak as the society grows bigger and unruly. What will be left off for future generations if these issues remain unsolved?
Multiple educated scientists and architects are urging to fix environmental issues first by determining the main cause of pollution which is inappropriate building materials and construction. Because the population is slowly growing in the Philippines, the demand for shelters is also growing. Architects are proposing the implementation of zero-carbon buildings that have net zero-carbon buildings. This design will have a great positive impact on the environmental crisis the country is currently facing. The structures would be energy-efficient and use renewable energy sources to offset carbon emissions.
The zero-carbon revolution would be effective if the United Architects of the Philippines made a law that all buildings shall be designed with a net zero carbon footprint. Because there's a growing demand for shelter, the implementation of zero-carbon and compliance of all architects will lessen the pollution.
As an architecture student, my experiences with the pollution in the country have alarmed me and felt my health was at risk. The passion I have for the course increased as these issues made me feel like I have the responsibility to right all the wrongs the violations committed by society against the environment.
With the implementation of the zero-carbon revolution, our future generation will lead further into life and look past societal failures.

Who Am I
I'm Riza Ysmael, an Architecture student from Mapua University with a passion for learning and drawing.
Circa 2019, I entered my Mapuan years with my two friends who I went to senior high school with. Patrick and Kyle. It was nice to transition into your college years with people you know. They were great friends, but sadly, they dropped out of the uni leaving me alone :< (it's fine tho! cus i met new great friends!)
Found new besties, Gian and Johna. They're so fun to be with.
Random jump shot at Mapua parking lot (?)
Before enrolling in this uni I knew it was gonna be a tough ride, but I was prepared for everything. I entered the school with so much passion and art materials to ready myself for the endless deadlines and projects I anticipated. It's still a long journey but I already went far. I've never, for once, thought of giving up. I picked the school, I picked the course, and I started this journey. I am determined to finish what I started. 2019 me this one's for u!!
