"Worrywart." Lase teased, because teasing was loads easier than looking at Mona's chewed lip or watching her hips as she walked. Those things made Lase feel a little bit light-headed. God they had to find a way to get over this before something truly embarrassing happened.

It was easier to focus on thinking of whatever had Mona so worked it up. The chances it was Leia seemed small in comparison to any of their other ideas: maybe it was the thing with Indi and Scratch, or with the fight, or maybe it was Mona's mysterious cousin that had rescued Leia from the belly of the beast. Lase still wasn't sure how that all shook out.

Lase snapped to attention as they hopped up on the hood of one of the cars, eyes intent. "The one that's your cousin, or a different one? What sort of agreement?"

"Well, I don't like the idea of getting you ill when I am." Mona retorted, her lips twitching slightly. The fact that Leia kept an eye out for her appearances made her stomach flip over and she tried not to show her surprise. She might have failed spectacularly at that though, as she wrenched her tooth from her bottom lip, before swiping her tongue across it to ease the sting.

Mona nodded quickly, barely noticing where or to whom Leia flung the wrench in their hands as a mixed expression of relief and nervousness passed across her face. She turned on the spot and headed outside, away from prying ears and across the tarmac until she was standing between two parked cars, both in various states of disrepair.

"Plants, right." Mona didn't meet Leia's eyes. She wasn't sure how her friend would react to what Mona had agreed too, but their opinion meant a lot to her and she couldn't keep it a secret. She would tell Indiana too, in time. "So, I might have had a visitor to the garden centre; a visitor of the magical kind". Mona had never looked less like a leader, and more like a schoolgirl waiting to be chastised. "We may have come to an agreement."

"Sometimes I can guess." Leia admitted. "Usually based on how recently Indi or Dulce have stopped by. If I've not seen you within a few days of seeing them then something's off and you've got a cold or something."

They finally managed to meet Mona's eyes and didn't even blush. Honestly the worst part of this whole thing was that Leia hadn't mentioned a word of it to anyone and so there was no one to whine to about Mona's beautiful hair or lovely eyes. This was all so embarrassing. It was just Mona.

"Yeah, I could take a break." They tossed the wrench at one of the boys, who gave them a pointed eyebrow waggle Leia ignored. "Let's go talk about plants."

Laser’s had enough crushes and been in enough relationships that they should know their own signs by now. Getting caught unawares by their emotions at this point was just embarrassing.

Yet somehow seeing Mona stroll into their garage with her hair up still managed to make Leia fumble a wrench. What the shit? How old were they, 12?

“Hey,” they said, looking around for the dropped tool to avoid having to look at their friend just a moment longer, “Didn’t expect you in today. What’s up?”

Mona paused in her stride at the sound of the tool clattering the ground, skidding to a halt by her open toed sandals. Her eyebrow raised as she crouched down and picked up the wrench, and held it out to Leia who, for some reason, was avoiding her eyes,

"Do you ever expect me in?" Mona asked, her lips twitching in amusement. Mona could drive; she chose not too. The only reason she would come to the garage was to see Leia, but she hadn't done so in a while. Somehow, Leia always seemed to just be there, when Mona needed to talk to her.

"Need to talk to you about..." she paused as she noticed they were not the only two in the garage. "... plants." She lied, feebly, gesturing back outside. "Got a minute?"

Laser doesn't get nightmares often, but they've had a few bad dreams about consequences wrought on Marco after Lase dragged him into all of this. They've never really given a shit about the wizarding world, but Marco never felt a part of it. Laser only has so many friends. It would suck if making Marco a source got him into trouble.

Of all the Pentacle, Indi feels most like a sister. The ribbing and competition and back-and-forth always felt like what they'd seen in their village growing up.

Indi was the first person Laser told about their plans to drop out of Oxford.

While Laser's never considered themself close to Heidi, they appreciate on some level what Heidi wants to do. They're fairly certain that given the right resources, Heidi's stubborn and persistent enough to pull it off.

Laser's never been the sort of person who understood the allure of long-term relationships, partially because Laser rarely lets themself get close enough to form enough of an attachment to grow into love, and they generally prefer one-night stands to dating. All of this to say: if they could ensure a clean break where they'd never have to see Heidi again, they'd definitely take her to bed.

“There’s the Laser I’ve missed,” Heidi let out. “You know, the bourgeoisie can always use a lesson.” She winked. “I wouldn’t have objected. Do you recall who you’re talking to?”

Heidi sure had changed. Once upon a time she never would have dreamed she would make such jokes — our were they jokes at that point? Her whole aspect on life changed that night her siblings went missing and the rest of her family was left terrified and unable to do anything. They were stunted and that was a word she would’ve never used for them beforehand.

“Let’s watch the world burn, Las.” The best thing about Heidi was how little Leia ever had to hold back. Around everyone else the script changed; society had boring rules and Leia had to follow at least some of them. Not with Heidi, though. Heidi didn’t care how many worlds got burned down in her wake. It made for a nice refreshing palate cleanser. Here Lase could blow shit up without worrying if any of their friends got caught in the crossfire.

“You’re the best anarchy buddy.” Laser said happily, offering several large firecrackers to Heidi. “These have a kick to them. I definitely don’t recommend keeping it in your hand once the fuse lights.”

“yeah. for new year’s eve.” it hadn’t been exactly at the stroke of midnight given the whole explosion thing, but the same week should count as close enough. “no. he’s not.” indi shrugged. she shot a sharp, unapologetic look at laser. “and no. I wouldn’t.”

Laser had a sneaking suspicion that was more to this new year’s eve kiss than Indi maybe wanted to say. But they weren’t really the ‘braid each other’s hair and talk about boys’ sort of friends. Lase wasn’t sure if they had that sort of friendship at all. Romance was weird, wanting someone like that always made everything so complicated. “Alright, live your own life.” Lase said and they didn’t mean it to be judgey, honest. “Your aim in these sorts of things is way better than mine, anyways.”

There was a moment where Laser considered keeping the act. They could call in Marco for support. But this place didn’t like Marco any more than they liked normal people. That wouldn’t be fair. “Well, I encourage you to get wrecked. Sir.”

“You’ve got mixed up with someone else, I swear.” Laser said, hands above their head. Good thing they had all that practice with their American accent. “I’m foreign, is all. I’m American and I’ve only been in town for like, a month.”

There group had always been tight knit. Though Leona was Mona’s best friend, since they were little and running around together causing mischief, there was something about Leia that Mona couldn’t help but love; but it was in an entirely different way. “Good plan, I want to drive him a little nuts though.” Mona tapped her lip thoughtfully. “I could use a partner in crime?”

Though Mona was always free with her hugs, she didn’t kiss anyone. Even her mothers were lucky to get a reluctant cheek bump and grimace. Kissing leia had been instinctual and bizarrely, had felt entirely natural. So much so that she found herself suddenly tempted to move her lips to the others, and that’s when she shook herself and pulled away.

“Yeah, they’re going to be both mad at you, and desperate to see you.” Mona smiled, looking around at the many things she should probably be doing, not to mention the ever growing list in her head, and disregarded both. “Sure. I’ve got your back. I might even be able to distract Bottle and Tippy enough that they forget all about you abandoning them.” She teased, reaching for her jacket from the nearby chair.

“I’m always on board for making Scratch’s life a little more entertaining. He frowns too much, he could use a good mischief headache.” Maybe it would remind him that when Laser said they were going to blow a place up they bloody well meant it.

Mona had a weird look on her face and for a moment it threw Laser off. It almost looked like how Dulce looked at Bo, but that was silly. After all, Mona was the sensible one of the group. There was probably nothing sensible about looking at Leia like that, they were chaos in a motorcycle jacket. They put that train of thought aside for the moment. Worry about it later. Cats now.

“I sure hope so, or I’ll be hearing nothing but stony silence until they forgive me for my crimes.” Leia moved towards the door, facing Mona the whole time. They had the apartment layout memorized, it wasn’t like they’d run into anything.

“Yeah, I dropped out before debate was an option.” Scratch rolled his eyes, shaking his head. “You need to learn how to stop minding other people’s business and start minding your own, you know that?”

“So you are making a flower crown for Indi then.” Laser said with a grin. “I can mind my business and yours at the same time. It’s called multi-tasking. Do you want any advice? I do know Indi pretty well.”
