i think something that is often overlooked in conversations about platonic and romantic relationships in media and the argument that “two people can just be friends” is that a big part of being queer, for me personally at least, is that i am deeply in love with my friends and would do absolutely anything for them and this sentiment alone opposes the heteronormative idea that your friends are supposed to play a secondary role in your life after a certain point. my friends are not just my friends. they’re not just anything. they’re my friends.

He turns at the sound of his name, meeting Sebastian’s eyes. His third-in-command greets him with a firm squeeze on the shoulder before stepping up beside him.

“The omega, how is he?” Max asks, voice laced with curiosity.

Sebastian shrugs. “Charles… he is wary.”

Max nods. “We will drop him off on the next island.”

Sebastian presses his lips together, hesitation clear in his posture. Max already knows he won’t like whatever comes next.

“He is strong,” Sebastian finally says, breaking the silence. “This boy, he is special. I think we will need him if we are going to find - ”

“He is not a pirate,” Max cuts in sharply. “We are not forcing his hand. He has a life to get back to.”

Sebastian’s knowing stare is unshaken. “That never stopped you when you captured me.”

“I saved you,” Max counters. “And you chose to stay.”

Sebastian smiles, gentle and infuriating. “I think Charles is worth saving too, don’t you?”
