IAN MURPHY RESPONSE
APRIL
I have an idea to create a linear collage in the style of Ian Murphy. By creating 3 individual sketches from photoshoot 1 and both digitally and hand put them together to create this linear collage.
This will be my second priority for the 3 hour sessions, developing the lino prints will be first.

COLOURFUL COLLAGE PRINT
I decided to use the other collaged piece as a relevant colourful print as I wanted to see the variation between both colour and black prints with collage which will help me with my final decisions based on the final big print.

COLLAGE PRINT
This is the 2nd sample collage print that went very well and I like the visual of the finished piece as the different medias draw attention to the actual print and makes the print a lot more interesting and visually appealing.

ADAPTING SECOND LINO SAMPLE
MARCH 9TH
I have changed the second initial drawing into the minimal style of Donwood by adding wavy and clean jaggered lines to represent the weak structure of the destroyed elements. I also drew the clouds in Donwood's style by creating an almost completely circular motion to simulate his representation of this part. I have also invested into some 'Graphik' line markers to produce the best possible outcome.
This adaptation is now ready to put onto a lino sheet which will be my next step.

LINO PROCESS (PRINTING)
MARCH 8TH
Today, I finally printed the first secondary inspired stamp and the results were very appealing and reflected 'doomsday' very well.
First I had to gather different papers to print on as the thinner the paper the easier it would be for the ink to stick to it. I ended up using a newspaper type material.
I then evenly spread black ink onto a piece of acetate and used a roller to gather the ink.
I spreaded the ink with the roller into the carved lino piece and then put the piece onto the newspaper type of paper.
In order for all of the ink to transfer onto the paper I used another clean roller and rolled over the piece of lino with some force.
To check if the ink had spreaded evenly I could lift the corners carefully to check.
I then experimented a bit more by adding different relevant colours to the lino piece which produced some really visually effective outcomes that projected the theory of Doomsday very well.
This has narrowed down my choice in colour and has given me the experience to then try another detailed sample and even a bigger piece once the photoshoot takes place.

AIMS FOR TODAY:
MARCH 8TH
Today I plan on creating a photoshoot plan and going out and collecting the images planned.
I plan on creating images that present urban littered and destroyed areas that appear abandoned and quite Doomsday-ey.
This will then inform my next big lino print.

ADOBE AFTER EFFECTS TUTORIAL
MARCH 7TH
I attended a tutorial amongst others about the Adobe after effects programme that is essentially an add on to premiere. The programme helps create animations and gifs a lot easier than just using photoshop.
Adobe after effects is a digital visual effects, motion graphics and compositing application.

LINO PROCESS (CARVING)
MARCH 6TH
Firstly, I had to cover the back of a photocopy of the design in graphite which will help trasher the design on the lino material.
I then had to tape the design to the lino sheet so the paper with the design on would not move and ruin the transfer.
Then I had to go over the design with a biro pen for the design to transfer on to the lino sheet with the graphite.
I then removed the design to reveal the transferred print onto the lino sheet. However, this will rub off when carving so I had to go over the design again but actually drawing the design on the lino sheet.
Only then could I start to actually carve into the sheet. I started with the flames as this was the part I already decided would be completely white. I copied the wavyness of the flames into the sheet to create an interesting and pleasing look. I did the same with the rest that would be completely cut out but marked them initially first so I wouldn't get confused and carve the wrong section.
This process overall was easier than expected but is very effective and will represent my theme well visually. I also feel confident and comfortable enough to create another more detailed carving and perhaps a bigger one as well.
NEXT STEP:
Actually use ink to print onto paper.

IMPROVING PREPARATION FOR LINO PROCESS
5TH MARCH
Once I had finished my initial sketches, I realised that they were not clearly representing Stanley Donwood as well as I wanted. So to overcome this I redrew the design in a much more simpler and relevant way.

PREPARING FOR LINO PROCESS
5th MARCH
In order to be prepared for the lino process I created sketches based on Stanley Donwood and the Doomsday theory of the blood moon. I also used secondary images as inspiration from Pinterest.

MARCH 4TH
After a tutorial with Kate, I have realised I need to research into an artists that actually uses lino printing within their work so I was suggested:
Stanley Donwood
An artist that focused within propaganda graphics, logical chaos and introspective illustrations. Notoriously reclusive, Donwood is famously known to not pander to the disingenuous media trend for grandeur, and like many intelligent creatives operating in such a conceited manner, cannot resist underselling himself.
I have also realised I needed to focus on secondary imagery for the lino printing technique as I do not have any primary images yet. Which has made me realize I need to create a photoshoot plan and will have the photoshoot on Friday.
I also need to sketch out scenery designs for the lino process based on the Doomsday theory.

PEER ASSESSMENT
As a task, we had to peer assess a class mate critically about their rough book and research carried out about their chosen topic.
I received some positive and very helpful feedback from Mia who suggested researching about different films such as the matrix and go into more depth about the more believable conspiracy theories which would relate well to the psychology research I previously carried out.
I also found that critically evaluating another person's rough book has helped me to reflect on my own and I have realised that I will need to do a bit more broader research to show all the possibilities I can pursue with my chosen topic.

QUICK IDEA
I have had a quick idea about actually using Andy Warhol as a contextual artsist and doing a range of print making on different medias to alomst simulate his other pop art work.
This could be apart of my idea of a lino print of a newspaper taking a comical approach to the celebrity conspiracy theories.

PROPOSAL AND PROJECT PLAN
When creating the proposal I have decided to leave the biggest and most complex paragraph until last as this will require some thought and refined research.
In order to not get confused and waste time, I have written down the websites I used when researching and noted that down in my rough book ready to harvard referance. I find this a quick and easy way to ensure I have all the information needed required by UAL.

Practice GIF
This GIF was a brief practice one that informed my decision on my final GIF greatly due to the insight i gained.
This included the time consuming tool of Puppet Warp, as this tool requires many manual points in order for the rest of the JPEG not to move. This also made it difficult to actually animate the JPEG’s properly as the tool gives a quite random warp.
