Here I am in Health Sciences Communications. Currently huddling under a blanket given to me at the holidays by a coworker who clearly gets it. It's nice and big, so I can tie it at my neck, drape it around my shoulders and have it cover my whole back. It's pretty code, although black is more my color :)
Besides this blanket, I have another large fleece I got when I worked in a building that was ridiculously cold -- so cold that upper management issues them to all employees of the building one year at a holiday luncheon. Due to university policies on uniform temperature, we couldn't have a higher temperature, despite the building's heat inefficiency, but we could have fleeces!

We at the International Headquarters of the Lap Blankets of Emory were so sad to hear the news that our Director of Production and Manufacturing, Nonah Watson, known to most of here at HQ as “Dona’s Granny,” passed away on New Year’s Eve at the impressive age of 96. For several years now, our little Dona’s Granny has wrapped us in her beautiful hand-crocheted afghans, the Lap Blankets of Love. Every year Dona would come back from her holiday visit in Mississippi with literal baskets full of them, and she would appear around campus to hand them out like the Magic Lap Blanket Fairy. How we loved her. How we will miss her. What a treasure to have these cherished blankets in our offices. Thank you, Dona’s Granny, and all our love to your family. <3 Nonah Watson Houston – Weenonah Lindsey Yarbrough Watson, 96, passed away December 31, 2016, at Floy Dyer Nursing Home in Houston, Mississippi. She was born September 29, 1920 in Woodland, Mississippi to James Andrew Lindsey and Dona Margaret Millsaps Lindsey. Mrs. Watson was a military spouse. At the family’s request, there will be no memorial service. Arrangements were handled by Houston Funeral Home. Survivors include her son, Hugh (Anita) Yarbrough of Houston, Daughter-in-law, Gail Watson, of Athens, AL, and Son-in-law, Curt Bayer of Columbia Cross Roads, PA, grandchildren, Tad Watson, Doug Watson, Jennifer King, Weenonah Miller, Talmage Bayer, Curtis Bayer and Dona Yarbrough and 14 great-grandchildren. Nonah Watson is preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Hugh A. Yarbrough, and Talmadge Loyd Watson; one daughter, Weenonah Yarbrough Bayer, one son; Talmadge Loyd Watson Jr. sisters, Olive Parsons, Laura Baker, Mary Wick, Louise Denton; Brothers; James Lindsey, and Benjamin Lindsey. Friends and family may leave a message at houstonfuneralhomems.com.

“Holy cow, it's cold in my office!” says one of the Lap Blankets of Emory’s favorite professors.  “So, I'm rocking my lap blanket. (Thanks, again, Dona’s Granny!) BTW Building management staff just said to me, ‘Do whatever you need to do to keep warm to be productive.’ I thought of breaking my chairs to start a bonfire,as well as just going home.” He--and we!--would love to hear your other suggestions!

It may be 75 degrees in December in the ATL, but Dona’s Granny has made sure Emory folk will be ready for the chill in our refrigeroffices when lap blanket season arrives! WE LOVE YOU SO SO MUCH, DONA’S GRANNY! <3 <3 <3

Helen freezes along with everyone else in Suite 216 of Woodruff Library--but at least she is freezing in style! Her top wrap was a raffle prize handmade by some “Church Ladies,” and she doesn’t remember exactly where the lower lap blanket came from.

Even though the "Snow Day" was a "NO Day" at Emory, we still pulled out the lap blankets! Here the interim director of Fraternity and Sorority Life models one of Dona's Granny's finest (this one is a particular favorite of the TLBOE production team for its creative color/texture/shape combos).

Dona shows her granny, creator of Dona's Granny's Lap Blankets, this tumblr with all the photos of people with her beautiful creations. Someone in this photo was heard to say, "I've always wanted the tumblr to go all self referential. Very postmodern."

You thought the Lap Blanket Nation was just inside Emory buildings? You thought wrong! Here is one of Emory's intrepid Cliff Shuttle drivers sporting her own camo lap blanket on the job!

Jonelle does not use dry erase on that side of the glass, but by gum she knows a good Dona's Granny's Lap Blanket when she sees one, and she knows how to use it, too!

Not only are the Lap Blankets of Emory back (for obvious reasons -- BRRR), but so are the beloved and most-coveted DONA'S GRANNY'S LAP BLANKETS! New in fabulous pinks and oranges and purples, y'all! In this shot, Diversity and Inclusion directors are modeling their new prizes. Lucky!
