Throughout her struggles, Delaney learned how to hide her addiction. She could usually perk up and do her best impression of a sober version of herself when she needed to. Even though she hated lying to her brother and keeping things from him, she never wanted to burden him with her problems and cause him to worry. From the moment they were born, he had always taken on the role of the protective older brother. Every bump, scrape, and bruise over the years was carefully inspected by him and he always did his best to shield and protect her from anything he could. But after so many times of her brother trying to pick up the broken pieces of her shattered soul, she reached a point where she didn't want to burden him with her issues anymore. They had been through the same song and dance many times, which usually always resorted to her attending meetings, meeting with her sponsors, or even lengthy stays in rehab facilities. All of which she wanted to avoid.
Delaney brought her knees up to her chest and tucked her face into her arms. Hearing her brother's cold voice sent shivers down her spine. She had been used to being a disappointment in their parent's eyes from a young age. Dmitri on the other hand, was the one person she never wanted to disappoint, even though she had many times in the past for the same reasons. Her head slowly rose, her glassy eyes gazing up at him like a puppy who had just done something it wasn't supposed to do. She shuddered as he spoke her full name. Something that was usually only done while they were overflowing with anger or disappointment. "I-I'm sorry," her voice cracked. Tears began to pool in her eyes and cascaded down her flushed cheeks. "It just happened." The slip back into her old habits had been gradual and was something she never planned on. "It started off with a drink or two at the Pink Gala," she muttered. Did she remember the exact date of the event? No. But she did know that it took place long enough ago that her brother would only be even more disappointed in her with that answer. In an effort to shield herself from his reaction, her head sunk back into the safety shield of her arms.
Small town life was supposed to be a fresh start for the twins, but mainly, it was meant to give Delaney some kind of grounding. A small town where everyone knew everyone else, there was support, and he hoped she'd find her place in it. Only he realized, they weren't meant for small town living, as much as he continually pushed that thought that was threatening to spew from his lungs. Did he love it there, no, not really, but he'd sacrifice if it kept his sister better off than she had been. Over the last few months he had seen little changes in her, not positive ones either. He tried to push down the vile feeling that she was slipping back into ways of her past. It couldn't be, in this small of a town word got around -- he would know. Wouldn't he? Then again Delaney was incredibly good at hiding what she didn't want her brother to know.
Demetrius couldn't prove it, but there was that feeling in his chest that cracked open, telling him he knew the truth. Delaney was drinking again, and she was hiding it. She was no longer attending her meetings, talking to her sponsor, none of it. There were just ways to know, call it twin intuition but ever inch of his body crawled with an unsettling sensation. No longer waiting he grabbed his keys storming out of his large, expensive loft apartment and going exactly across the hall to the other equally large loft that housed his sister, sliding his key in and clicking the lock open. Normally he wouldn't just let himself in like this, but he was going to confront her, whether she wanted to be or not. It didn't take long before he found her curled up in a ball on the bathroom floor, the mostly empty bottle of liquor on the floor. "Fuck it all to hell." He said pushing the door open more and invading the space. "Delaney? Delaney! What the fuck are you doing?" Snatching the bottle off the ground away from her. "When?" His voice harsh, almost cold. The fear that gripped his chest like a vice that she had fallen back victim to her crutch, her sobriety a thing of the past. The harshest realization being she had lied to him, for who knew how long. "When, Delaney Mae Dawson? How long have you been lying about this." He said shaking the bottle before moving over to the sink and dumbing it down the drain.

A year ago when she and her brother first made the adjustment to small-town life, Delaney believed it was exactly what she needed to get back on the right path. She had her brother close by again and a fresh slate to make changes for the better in her life. Things had been going great at first. The charm of a new town was always enough to get swept up in for a bit. So much unfamiliar territory to explore and discover. However, as the months went on the once charming places she loved to explore started looking dull and redundant. She missed the city life where the parties started late at night and lasted into the early mornings. Where no matter what time it was, there would always be limitless adventures to seek out and clubs to sneak into. She began to fall deeper into a pit of depression and began reaching for the bottle once again. She told herself it was because she needed to find some way to have fun in this boring old town, but deep down she knew it was always the crutch she leaned on.
She leaned hunched over against the porcelain bowl, feeling the contents of her stomach threatening to rise. There was a small glass of water on the floor next to her on one side, while a glass bottle with her favorite amber liquid was close by on the other side. It wasn't as if a little bit of nausea would make her stop for the night. All she needed was a few minutes for her stomach to settle, a few sips of water, and she would be ready to drink again until she passed out for the night. The contents of her stomach spilled out, causing her to cough a few times after the matter. She leaned back against the cold tile floor and took a few sips from her glass of water. At the same moment, she could hear the lock to the front door click before it swung wide open. Delaney froze in fear. The only person that had a key to her place was none other than her twin brother. "Fuck," she muttered under her breath as she curled up into a ball in an attempt to shield herself from what she knew was awaiting her in her near future.

PERSONALITY:
Delaney can be a bit much to handle sometimes for those who don’t know her. She may be small but her voice is mighty and she is known for always having a flair for the dramatics. She can sometimes come off a little closed off and guarded, but that’s only because she’s encountered many people who used her in her past. If you take the time to earn her trust, you’ll have a loyal friend on your side.
BIOGRAPHY:
The Holloway family can be traced back for generations, as far as Delaney knows, landing all the way back somewhere to great-great-great-great-great grandparents coming from London, England. While they weren’t of royal blood, their family was one that always did well financially, involved with all the ‘right’ people, finding themselves still of aristocrat level hierarchy. Eventually, their family made the massive jump across the pond, making a name for themselves in America. At first their families struggled, despite having money originally, settling in Southern Georgia was a bust. While they weren’t dirt poor, the Holloway family was aware at some point money would run dry. Trekking from South Georgia to Texas, is where the Holloway’s new legacy truly began.
One of many levels of great-grandparents settled in a little, upcoming town, and what was truly pure luck, but they say was just known, struck oil and there’s been no turning back on the Holloway legacy. Their family would go on to spawn engineers, wealthy ranchers, bankers, investors, politicians, and more. Trickle that down Eleanor Rose Holloway, the mother of Delaney and Demetrius, was born into a world of wealth, power, and whatever else she could have imagined. Unlike all the girls in school who were obsessed what their hair looked like, who they were dating, what their life would look like settling down after barely finishing high school, Eleanor was determined to continue growing the Holloway legacy. This started with getting top grades, working her way up to class president, getting the best recommendations and graduating a year early on a fast track program to taking over the world. At least that was her plan, to make the Holloway’s proud, and that she was. Graduating a year early with early acceptance into the University of Chicago brought her where she needed to be for so many reasons.
It was an easy transition in her private apartment from family finances to double majoring in International Relations/Affairs and Political Science & Government. The game plan originally had been padding the best of the best into a degree, before law school and eventually politics. Eleanor was passionate, driven, she wanted to change the world. Only when you’ve had everything handed to you your entire life, never knew the struggles of every day people, do you realize you’re a little out of touch with everything. Often being ridiculed for her families wealth, never having to worry. Becoming a bit of an outcast at least made it easy to focus on her studies until she was invited to a fundraiser — after all her name was well known — hosted by an equally wealthy family in Chicago.
The Dawson fundraiser benefit was notorious in Chicago, it was the typical $10,000 a plate to even be able to attend, not to mention the donations expected during the event. For Eleanor, this was something she figured that she needed to adjust to for a life of politics. What was supposed to be the start of networking, turned into meeting the one all the single women were attempting to woo. Instead it was Eleanor that caught the eye of Edmund Dawson, the son of Benedict Dawson. To Eleanor they were what her family would consider ‘new’ money. They took risks in science, investments, space, and all the things her family never understood anything about. It was a whirlwind romance, two powerful families uniting together — though the Holloway’s had their reservations. Old money always had reservations about new money, but Eleanor and Edmund didn’t care.
Eleanor graduated with top marks in her dual major while Edmund followed with his own top marks, graduating with a degree in Econometrics and Quantitative Economics. They both moved into a gorgeous condo together where they started their years as graduate students, earning their masters, and eventually their PHD’s in respective fields. It was then Eleanor got the opportunity of a lifetime in diplomacy, entering a program that would start her on the track to become a diplomat. There was traveling, politics, new cultural experiences, everything she could have dreamed of when it came to living out her dreams. Somewhere in between Edmund popped the question with a rather large diamond and in a whirlwind wedding planning and career advancement married in England, wanting to be close to their original roots. It was a fairytale come true.
In almost no time, Eleanor found herself pregnant, color them surprised when they found out twins were going to be welcomed to the ranks of the Dawson family. Everyone was thrilled, and even more over the moon when they found out it was a boy and a girl. On October 27th, 1997 in Washington, DC, Delaney Mae Dawson was born three minutes after her twin brother Demetrius. Delaney had been a name her mother Eleanor had fallen in love with. A strong Irish name that meant “dark challenger”. Though she and Dmitri were twins, they were different in many ways. The main difference was that Delaney was a tad bit loud and overdramatic at times. After all, she was born screaming an ear-piercing scream, quite the opposite of her brother. Their home base was in Washington D.C. though they frequently traveled to cities such as Paris, London, and Rome. They had impressive penthouse apartments and luxurious houses that their guests fawned over whenever invited. When Delaney was around the age of six, she attended a ballet performance and immediately became fascinated by the art of dance. She begged her parents to sign her up for classes, which they happily obliged. She seemed to have a natural talent for dance and quickly picked up the choreography. Delaney did her best to make time for her passion for dance as she grew older. The frequent moving around from one place to the next seemed to always come in the way somehow. By the age of thirteen, she had given up dance entirely and moved on to new hobbies and other passions.
Their parents always expected the best from them at all times. They had an important image to uphold when it came to the Dawson and Holloway legacies. That never stopped Delaney from being a rebellious teen who stirred the pot and got into a bit of trouble. By the time she reached the age of fourteen, she realized she was attracted to girls. It was something that took her a while to admit out loud, in fear of judgment from others or even disappointment from her parents. The only person she confided in was her twin brother. He was nothing but supportive, which came as no surprise since he was always her safe space and support system. Delaney did her best to fit in among her peers, though moving around so frequently didn’t make it very easy. It didn’t take long for her to realize the friends that she was making were only interested in hanging around her due to her family’s social status. For a while, she entertained these so called “friends”. Paying for luxurious shopping trips, elegant dinners, and whatever else it took to get in their good graces. She was too naive to realize that these people wouldn’t stick around for the long run, she just craved the feeling of acceptance and validation. During a stay in Paris, their parents had come under watch due to some potential fraudulent scams, believing that was how they were fostering all their money and funneling it off to offshore accounts. Their parents were placed on house arrest and their assets were frozen, which meant the twins had no access to their trust funds either. For the first time in their lives, the Dawson family were financially unwell. When the news of their financial troubles broke to their “friends”, they dropped them and moved onto someone else to leech off of. After a year long litigation, their family name was cleared and they returned back to the lavish lifestyle. When their money returned so did their fair-weathered friends who were eager to apologize and get back in their good graces. It was then that Delaney realized she needed to be more guarded about who she could trust, especially when it came to her family’s wealth.
It became a rather lonely life for her as she started questioning her worth outside of her wealth. She turned to drinking as a way to cope. After all, champagne and fine wines had been around her entire life and were rather easy for her to get her hands on. Whenever their family threw a lavish party, Delaney made her way towards the bar while no one was looking and kept a flask filled with whatever alcohol she could get her hands on first. Everything felt easier to her when she was intoxicated. She could drown out the worries and self-doubt inside her mind. One evening during one of her parent’s lavish parties, Delaney got a little bit too drunk and made a fool of herself in front of her parent’s prestigious friends. Her parents sat her down to lecture her, as they were concerned about her behavior. They hadn’t realized she had began using alcohol as a crutch, let alone how much of a problem she had with her addiction to it. Reluctantly Delaney agreed to talk to a therapist, as well as attend regular Alcoholic’s Anonymous meetings. The recovery process wasn’t an easy one, as she had many slip ups along the way. Though she eventually reached a point where she felt herself again.
Despite her struggles, Delaney excelled in school. So much that by the time it was time to apply for colleges, she was granted an acceptance into the University of Chicago, the same school where their parents attended and met. It wasn’t much of a surprise granted the legacy of her family when it came to the city of Chicago. A fresh new start was exactly what Delaney was in need of. Despite the whispers that she only got into the school because of her family name, Delaney did her best to keep herself guarded and fly under the radar from the people who were only interested in her for her wealth. She busied herself with a full course load of art, history, foreign languages, and even enrolled in a ballet class. She hadn’t stepped into a pair of pointe shoes since her early teens. However, she proved herself to be a natural with how quickly she leapt back into the art.
It was in her ballet class that Delaney met Isabella, a beautiful ballerina who had a full ride scholarship to the school. It was hard not to be captivated by her beauty, grace, and talent. The two quickly formed a friendship, that turned into a whirlwind romance as time went on. It seemed as if Chicago had been the place she was destined to end up, just like her parents were all those years ago. Delaney felt as if her life had shifted into perfection. Her and Isabella moved into a penthouse apartment together, adopted a cat, and for the first time in her life Delaney felt comfortable opening up to her parents about her sexuality. While it came as a bit of a shock to them, they were supportive and not at all disappointed as Delaney had feared. The only flaw that seemed to be in her life was the distance between her and her twin. The pair had been inseparable since birth. Wherever one was, the other was never too far behind. It was a hard transition for them to get used to having so many miles of distance between them. Though Dmitri begged her to move back to Washington D.C., she knew her place was in Chicago. After being attached at the hip for the majority of their lives, she knew the distance and space would help them become their own people.
By the time graduation neared, Delaney decided to pursue ballet professionally along with her girlfriend. Her parents weren’t pleased, since they didn’t deem ballet to be a respectable career and it wouldn’t get her very far in life. Despite her parents concerns, Delaney auditioned to be apart of The Joffrey Ballet School in Chicago. It put some strain on their relationship when Delaney was accepted and Isabella was urged to audition again next year. Her girlfriend believed she only got accepted because of her name and not because she had talent. While it was her jealousy speaking, Delaney also knew there could be truth to her words since her family name seemed to always get her ahead in life, despite her best efforts to blend in and feel somewhat normal. It wasn’t long after that the couple broke up and went their separate ways. Delaney kept the apartment, while Isabella gained custody of their cat.
Delaney’s main focus was kept on dance. That was until one rehearsal where she made a wrong move, slipped, fell, and ended up with a broken ankle. It probably would have healed up just fine if it hadn’t been for her pushing herself to get back to dancing sooner. Not only did her ankle not heal properly, but she ended up re-injuring it once again months later, leading to the end of her ballet career.
With the absence of dance in her life, Delaney fell into a dark place. Chicago used to be a place where she felt anything was possible for her. Maybe she had such high hopes because the city had been so kind to her parents so many years ago, that she thought the same destiny would be hers if she just followed in their footsteps. She thought she had found the love of her life within Isabella, but she had just been another person to show their true colors in time. Delaney retreated into a dark place, once again turning to alcohol when she felt as if she needed it. In a desperate attempt to get her back on track, her parents presented her with an ultimatum. Either start attending therapy and meetings once again to begin the healing process of her addiction or be cut off entirely from her trust fund money. She did her best to make her parents happy and willingly attending whatever appointments were set up for her. before she knew it, she was once again on the road to recovery and started to feel somewhat like herself again.
After several years of finishing up her education in Chicago, Delaney thought a change of scenery was the best thing for her. Knowing her brother needed a fresh start as well, the twins made the choice to move together. They each threw a dart at a map of the United States. After some research, they decided Merrock, Maine was the best choice for them. They settled in six months ago after purchasing two condos right next to one another. It was the perfect arrangement for them, since they were close enough in case they needed on another, yet they still had plenty of space on their own. Delaney is doing her best to enjoy her life, while searching for what it is she wants to do in the long run. Luckily her parents are just happy that her brother is close by to keep an eye on her, that they haven’t began bombarding her about her future.
