At the very start of the Living Project, I was in conversation with Chloe, for her to make a publication about the exhibition. We were unable to meet until now, but over Christmas she has been working to make it. I went to her studio today to assist with putting it together.
Happy with how it has turned out. I now have a physical thing that I can show people when they want to know about the exhibition - maybe helpful if I ever need to take a portfolio to an interview? I am very thankful to Chloe for putting the effort into this - I owe her one!

After scanning the screen prints in I thought it would be fun to have a play around in Photoshop and see what designs I could come up with. The one below is my favourite because of the colours that have come from inverting the image. I love using photoshop because of how you can alter an image so easily.

Turned up to screen print today, and turns out we can’t use the exposure units during the key holder sessions. Bit of a shame as I was looking forward to trying out a new process, but I decided to stay anyway. As I didn’t have a screen, the only way I could screen print was with stencils which I haven’t done before - still a new process to me I suppose!
Cut stencils - I made a load of abstract shapes.
Stick to back of screen using tape
Mix colours
Print and repeat. I used a variety of colours and tested out some gradients as well.
Although this wasn’t exactly what I had in mind for the morning, I’m still glad I had a go as I learnt something new. I didn’t realise it was so easy to print this way, and will maybe use it in the future. I think with some extra planning in advance I would be able to make some cool abstract compositions. Here are my favourites from the morning:

16/12 CMYK Screenprint Project
In order to improve my technical skills in screen printing, I have set myself a project of creating a CMYK print. This is a specialised print skill and something I haven’t attempted before.
I thought that as we are coming up to Christmas, I would tie this project in with creating some print presents for me family. The photograph I chose was of one of our family pets. Looking back I think it might have been good to chose a more colourful picture.
I used a youtube tutorial to show me the process of separating the colour layers in photoshop in order to make the screen positives.
This resulted in bitmap layers in which the halftone dots are at different angles on each layer.
Before printing tomorrow I have been playing about with different colour combinations on the layers, as well as the traditional CMYK. I think it could create some interesting results!

The day after the exhibition I sent a final mail out to all of the submittees with a thank you and some final info regarding pick up of photographs. This is all part of me wanting to build a relationship with them and keep on good terms. I also wanted to make sure to give thanks to them as much as I can.
These are some of the responses I received:

Although I didn’t encourage any formal feedback, such as feedback sheets or comment boards, I got a lot of verbal feedback, and also comments on social media and emails. The feedback has been 100% positive, however I did not make room for criticism through the use of feedback forms and that may be why. In future projects I will therefore make sure there is a way for people to be able to criticise and leave feedback about the event. This will also make it easier for me to keep track of peoples thoughts and to refer back to. Below are some examples of feedback I have received.

The day of the exhibition!
This afternoon was a complete nightmare. I knew that I needed a projector to be able to display all the non-printed photographs, however they were unavailable to rent until the day of the exhibition. I was expecting to sort the projector out in a couple of hours however this turned into a 5 hour ordeal. The tech team at uni was very helpful and I managed to get it done - however it was very stressful! I have learnt from this that I need to sort out anything involving technology further in advance. Having said this.. I did try - but I couldn’t because all of the projectors were all in use. I have to organise very very in advance! I managed to get to The Brunswick by 4, which was a few hours after I intended. I contacted Chloe (who was to be taking photographs at the event) to see if she could come early. Thankfully she could, so I had a bit of a helping hand! I made a detailed list of everything had left to do so that I could work through them as efficiently as possible.
I also had John and Georgie on had to help. We finished at 5.50pm - just before we opened! Thankfully we did as people started to turn up quickly and the room was full by 6.30pm
We used the table in the middle to display the zines and posters. I thought they looked really great in the middle of the room. The bright colours form the zines and the lights really lit up the room and complimented the b&w photographs. I was thinking about charging for the zines but forgot because I was so behind!
I set the projector up in the corner of the room were there was the least light and no photographs on the wall. I also put some chairs out to create a cinematic experience. I thought it would also encourage people to stick around and watch show reel through.
This is how the room looked like when we opened:
And this is how it looked about 15 minutes later:
Then a half an hour later:
And and after an hour we were full!
The night went better than I could have hoped for! The main thing was that all the people that were in it were really happy with how their photos were presented, and were excited and proud to be part of it. There was a constant flow of people throughout the night.
Although it was stressful, I’m glad I got the projection sorted. As a half an hour loop of photographs, it was a way of keeping people in the space longer (the bar downstairs also helped).
One of my favourite parts of the night was meeting the people I had been emailing over the past month, and hearing their thoughts on the event. A lot of these conversations were around the fact they were happy to be given the opportunity to be part of an exhibition - something that lots of people who aren't practicing artists don’t get a chance to do. There was also compliments on the space itself, of which I gave thanks to Georgie for her lights!
Overall the night was a success. A few things I would have improved on were the zines! Not the content of them, but the amount of them! I think I underestimated how many people would come, and the zines were pretty much all gone within an hour. This means I will now have to reprint some so that those who missed out (that submitted) can get one. Next time I will either get more printed, or charge for them! Although I created the zine, I was however hesitant to charge for them as it had other peoples work in that was not my own. I would have also printed more of the posters for people to take. Something to think about for next time!

Facebook post!
The lights matched so well with the zines that I thought this would be a perfect last post. Its eye catching and people love being able to get ‘stuff’.
I was also lucky enough to get a number of people sharing the event:
