When you're autistic, it's impossible to miss how much society normalizes child abuse.
I could dedicate my entire life to studying how to interact with people and I'd still never master the social skills that young children are expected to have on command.
Say the wrong thing? That's disrespectful and you're punished. And you don't even have to actually say anything wrong. Pretty much anything you say can be considered "giving lip" if your parent wants some excuse to punish you. But if you say nothing, then you get punished for ignoring. You also have to calculate your response to their mind game quickly because taking too long to respond is considered ignoring. Also, if you're being wrongly accused of something, saying nothing is considered a confession. And even if you somehow manage to say exactly what your parent wants in exactly the correct tone, they'll still punish you for "sarcasm" or "not really meaning it".

Some very important facts in my life right now:
I'm currently visiting NYC with my kidlets, aged 8 and 10.
We are staying about three blocks away from the Empire State Building.
There is currently a giant inflatable dragon wrapped around the Empire State Building.
Kidlets are delighted by the dragon.
Kidlets are rather more delighted by the dragon than might be expected.
Yes, you might say, it's a dragon wrapped around a famous skyscraper, where's the surprise in that?
No surprise.
It's just that they're extremely excited.
They're reading Terry Pratchett 's Guards! Guards!
A book that features a giant dragon swooping off the tallest tower in the great city of Anhk Morpork.
They are quoting the book constantly
"The shape that looked like a large pair of wings unfurling was, in fact, a large pair of wings unfurling."
All the time
"Dragons don’t have friends! The nearest they can get to the idea is an enemy who is still alive!"
Little girls, wandering through the tourist attractions of midtown Manhattan, like
"A people united can never be ignited!"
With such enthusiasm
"This is going to be the world's first democratically killed dragon! One man, one stab!
I love them so much, I'm so proud, I picked the right partner, we made the best possible kids

Research has shown that pleasure affects nutrient absorption. In a 1970s study of Swedish and Thai women, it was found that when the Thai women were eating their own (preferred) cuisine, they absorbed about 50% more iron from the meal than they did from eating the unfamiliar Swedish food. And the same was true in the reverse for the Swedish women. When both groups were split internally and one group given a paste made from the exact same meal and the other was given the meal itself, those eating the paste absorbed 70% less iron than those eating the food in its normal state.
Pleasure affects our metabolic pathways; it’s a facet of the complex gut-brain connection. If you’re eating foods you don’t like because you think it’s healthy, it’s not actually doing your body much good (it’s also unsustainable, we’re pleasure-seeking creatures). Eat food you enjoy, it’s a win-win.

Why whole-ass a job that only needs half an ass?
It's really important when you're at work to go out there and really give it your 60%. Maybe 35%.
