I bought myself out of my phone contract 3-4 years ago and I’ve been on prepaid ever since because I liked the freedom.

But I’m just learning that on January 1st California started this “MTS surcharge” law that states anybody who uses prepaid phones have to pay an extra $15 on top of what their phone bill is. 

Paying an extra $15 eliminates any benefit I’m enjoying by using prepaid. 

It also seems like predatory practices aimed at poor people who use prepaid services. 

I guess I’m gonna be going back to a contract this month.
