look at this - i finally spent enough time googling blender tips to figure this one out

if you want to align an edge loop to be parallel to the neighboring edge loop but without changing the overall shape of the mesh, you need to select the edge loop and then:

(1) double press G (so "G G") to activate edge slide;

(2) then E ;

(3) and then finally F to switch between matching the neighboring edge loops

so "G G -> E -> F"

this makes it way easier to align all edge loops to be, for example, parallel to the x axis without changing the overall shape of a mesh

if anyone knows of an even better trick for something that would align all selected edge loops in this way without changing the shape of the mesh pls let me know!
