Hey guys, In November, my mom was diagnosed with cervical cancer and because of this she is mostly unable to go to work and we were under financial stress before these medical bills were added in so you can imagine that now it’s… a whole other story. There’s a more detailed explanation of her treatment on the page and I really hate doing this and I hate asking because money is tight for everyone like I get it but anything would help and I would appreciate it so much. She’s so stressed out and it’s so awful to see so even if you can’t donate just reblog, signal boost, whatever. I love u guys and thank you so much.

After seeing quite a bit of troubling reactions all over my dash and inbox, I’m beginning to get worried about potential copycat suicides and the Werther effect, which is basically a huge spike in suicides after a heavily publicized celebrity suicide. It happened with Marilyn Monroe. It happened with Choi Jinsil just in 2008. And I’m terrified that it might happen again with Jonghyun. 

There are certain things that psychologists recommend when reporting on a suicide. First and foremost is to not glorify or sensationalize the death. Secondly, to not go into any specific details about methods. Third, to drill in the fact that there are other alternatives to this drastic measure, and to encourage help-seeking as much as possible. 

Unfortunately, Jonghyun’s death was highly covered and sensationalized in the media. We have coverage of every single detail, from his methods, to his suicide note, to even his funeral. This is exactly what the experts do not recommend, and I am fearful about the outcome. 

I know what some of you are thinking– that you identify with this young man, and you must have thoughts like, if he wasn’t strong enough to continue, how could I be? I know that you’re hurting. But I just want you all to remember that you are not the same as Jonghyun.

Unfortunately, he was under day and night scrutiny and trapped as an idol, unable to access the help he needed. But you can. 

Please reach out to family and friends. Please call or text a hotline. Please pick up the phone and make an appointment with a doctor. And please stay off social media and avoid all news with Jonghyun if it’s triggering. 

I honestly care so much about all of you and I am really worried. As a result, I am going to delete all my posts about this tragic loss, as I feel as though I have contributed to the problem with unintended sensationalization. I will no longer speak about the tragedy, at least for now until people are in less vulnerable states. I will gladly still talk to you about your feelings and provide you with self-care guidance, but I feel too guilty about potentially contributing to this issue to continue posting about him. 

Jonghyun meant so much to me, but he’s gone and you guys are still here, and for right now, it makes more sense to try to protect you instead of wallowing in my despair. I love you all and I am here for you if you want to talk.
