Deciding to post this, because I can't just keep this to myself. We have high quality versions of the Maxie/Archie concept sheets from the artbook - and notably, Maxie's was changed in the artbook.
This is the version we got, initially. Please look closely at this leaked sheet of Maxie. The empty gap by the colored headshot had a doodle they removed, prior to public release.
It's very ominious. It's his glasses, but folded, and broken, by a sapling. The Japanese text under it (translated with Google, so grain of salt) seems to say "The End." It gives the idea that he would be dead, in this scenario. Broken glasses, not picked up to be fixed, or that he really wouldn't be able to see much without them.
Notably, Archie's leaked sheet doesn't have anything like this, that would imply death or ending. The most that is removed, is some writing near his shoe, from what I can tell. It's rather telling - they were playing with the idea of Maxie dying, or having one die depending on the game, possibly (with Maxie's possibly being the canon timeline, had they went with that?). If so, I can also see why they removed it. It's very sudden to see, and a bit tragic. We also get to see how Maxie's glasses look, when folded, which as far as I know, is a first.
I can't just sit on this information. It's been haunting me for hours now. The sapling. The glasses. The simple "The End." It's deeply somber to me

A Wind-Grieved Ghost discusses the influence of medieval Noh theater on the striking costume worn by Ganondorf in The Wind Waker. I explain the symbolism of Ganondorf’s gorgeously patterned robes and argue that the sartorial allusions to Noh theater serve to characterize Ganondorf as a frightening yet tragic ghost displaced from the vanished kingdom of Hyrule.

OKAY LAST POST OF THE DAY THEN I'M DONE–
This is something I was VERY nervous to post for some reason, but I've been SUPER into Elden Ring lately so, here's some designs I did for Archie and Maxie a few months back!!
( @abiding-by-the-laws-of-color and @ribbononline were huge inspirations for both the background and parts of the design process!! )
This took me about 3 weeks total because I had some struggles with them design wise (mostly Maxie, his gave me the most trouble), but in the end I'm VERY happy with them!! Maxie's minimal armor was inspired by the Black Knife Set, while Archie's is a mix of the Solitude Set and Relanna's Set and, had I drawn it, his helmet would've been like Guile's.

Designer's Note: When we were designing Ganondorf, our most important goal was to inspire anyone playing the game with an innate impression that "he must be defeated."
Ganondorf’s smile in the moment he takes Sonia's Secret Stone is meant to fill the player with a sense of despair at confronting someone who can't be reasoned with. This scene emphasizes that the ultimate goal of the game is to "Destroy Ganondorf."
While it’s necessary for Ganondorf to have the dignified appearance of a desert king, we put great care and attention into small details to convey the impression that he’s a sly and cunning person who won’t hesitate to employ underhanded means in service to his goals. The most difficult aspect of his design was his eyes. Even the most subtle of adjustments would weaken Ganondorf’s impression as a sharp and powerful character, and we made countless revisions.
Because we wanted to draw Ganondorf as a skilled but solitary warrior who stands alone in battle, we adopted the samurai-style outfit of a loose kimono worn open at the chest without formal hakama trousers. We also referenced various pieces of Buddhist art transmitted to Japan along the Silk Road in order to mix aesthetic influences from desert tribes into his Japanese clothing.
This design gave us a lot of trouble, but we’ll be satisfied if the player has a sense of this Ganondorf being his own unique character distinct from previous appearances in the series.
