Last week I was able to watch Wish and I'm really sad because I was ready to defend the film. It does its job, it entertained me for a while, I had a great time with King Magnifico, I love the design of Queen Amaya (hehe Dama of Elche inspired) and of Asha, the star is cute….

But.

With each passing day, the more disappointed I am with the film. I understand the idea, but I don't like the execution. My only interest is the villain, and I don't even know if we can call him that: he's a man who suffered a traumatic experience as a young child and has built a kingdom trying to protect his people and his dreams. Yes, he's a narcissist and obviously his motivation is not entirely good (he seeks recognition from others and stuff), but he's doing his job and people are giving him their wishes because they want to, not against their will.

There is a new element in the equation (the star) that could take all this away from him, perhaps repeating the destruction of his first home. It is his greatest fear, which is why he does not grant most wishes. What if something bad happens. What if they use it against us. Trauma. In a desperate moment he turns to a book that we later learn corrupts you or whatever you want to call it, there's no turning back. Asha creates the villain of her story, who otherwise wouldn't have wanted to do any of that.

But the worst thing for me was looking for a picture of Magnifico and Amaya when they were young to show a friend something and confusing him with Ballister from Nimona. And that's when something clicked in my head.

Disney was making Nimona. Disney was making it and they cancelled the film. Did Disney STEAL the designs they were using for Nimona to use them for Wish?

Is the fact that Nimona was finally going to be released the reason why there are so many changes from concept art to final product? Amaya can't be bad because, hm, what separates her from The Director then? People have complained that Magnifico's eyes are too big, hm, I wonder who has been praised these past few months for their big puppy eyes.

And the star. It was to be a shapeshifter boy. A goddamn shapeshifter.

And I was browsing the art book and. IS THAT AN OTTER.

WHO I KNOW WHO IS ALSO A SHAPESHIFTER WHO IS SOMETIMES AN OTTER?

Of course I have no complaints about the people who have worked on the film, the art teams, animators, etc. I'm sure they worked hard and it looks like the people at the top made decisions and then they had to work twice as hard to try and remedy the problems.

But then you look at the other people who worked on the film and the voice actors ……………….. They take Israel's side? Oh jesus

What a mess.

⚠️Spoilers for Wish⚠️

While I am excited for/ planning to watch Disney’s Wish, I honestly wish (heh) they had gone with the original plan for Amaya’s character and made her a villain alongside Magnífico.

Like, I genuinely think it could’ve been cool to see them as partners in crime and be inspired by classic Disney villain traits: vain, narcissistic, power-hungry, cruel, and enjoyable to hate.

I could’ve seen their relationship as something similar to Scarlett and Herb Overkill from the Minions movie, where it’s two married villains who are clearly terrible people, but are still heads over heels for each other.

I’ve read the golden book and kids book of the movie that some people have uploaded on YouTube, and while those books tend to omit things from the actual film, they give us a basic synopsis of the overall story.

(SPOILERS FOR THE MOVIE BELOW)

Essentially, the story ends with Magnífico being sucked into his staff, Amaya rules Rosas and Star gives Asha a wishing wand (essentially making her a Fairy Godmother sort of character mixed with elements of Snow White)

It’s a pretty basic, cut-and-dry story and I’m not saying I expected Shakespeare or whatever, but imagine how much better the story would’ve been with both Magnífico and Amaya as the villains:

The story could’ve been that the kingdom of Rosas was ruled by Magnífico and Amaya, who both seemed charming and generous on the outside, but were greedy and self-serving on the inside. They essentially didn’t care for anyone but each other.

I’d also add Amaya’s cat Charo from the concept art book, cause it think it would be cute that these two are absolute shitheads, but are still cat parents who spoil their cat and take it everywhere.

Anyways… Magnífico, like in the actual story, only granted the wishes that benefited him (and his wife), while the majority of wishes were stashed away in his tower.

Asha wants to become Magnífico’s apprentice and when introduced to the wishes, wants to grant her grandfather’s wish and finds the kings (and queens) whole wish-granting system unfair to the people (again, like the canon material).

The story would then go like the actual movie: Asha makes a wish on a Star and Magnífico sees her as a threat to his power and hunts her down (only with Amaya by his side).

I’d like to think that while Magnífico has his moments where his true personality shines, I feel like Amaya wouldn’t truly snap until the very end, having a little more composure than her husband (similarly to the Evil Queen or Maleficent or Ursula)

In the end, the King and Queen are defeated and banished into Magnífico’s staff. Asha is named the new Princess of Rosas (or Queen, whichever you prefer), and she actually joins the Disney Princess lineup and it’s not just advertisement. Like the real story, Star gives her a wand and Asha becomes the new wish-granter.

It’s not perfect, but I think it may have been more interesting and entertaining to see rather than the typical director the creators went with the story

These are just my thoughts, however, I’m still gonna watch the movie and see I think about it.

Everytime I think about "Wish" I just get madder and madder about it. People are supporting the movie's weird choices about getting rid of Star boy and turning him into a marketable plushie seller instead? You know I would have KILLED to see Starboy and Asha interact together, I honestly felt no sadness when Magnifico seemingly murders the little star to put in his staff... If that was a person Asha had bonded with throughout the course of the movie and realized she had romantic feelings for? THAT WOULD HAVE FUCKING CRUSHED ME. People saying if the Starboy was a humanised "Star" we would have had another Stardust movie. Yeah? So what? That movie WORKED. There was way more tension and threat in that than there was in "Wish" Also gonna throw this out there I don't like the credit song. HEAR ME OUT FIRST - The song works for a celebration for 100 years of Disney song, Even down to seeing the various Disney characters over the years in the music video. But for Wish? Nah. It just feels weird. Like let the movie be it's own thing don't tack every other Disney movie onto it... let the movie breathe by itself and rely on it's own merits. It's like Disney had no faith that this movie would work on it's own. Maybe if they had left the original concepts in and not get their ass kicked by money grabbing execs this one could have been a real winner but it's just so..."meh" and for a Disney musical that concerns the hell out of me.

The Problem with King Magnifico

King Magnifico is the best part of Disney's Wish. He's got a sleek design, the most fun animation, and Chris Pine does a fantastic job hamming it up as a classic-style Disney villain.

With that said, he's a good villain, but fails to be a great one.

At first, I thought this was mainly because of all the Member Berries; as the movie goes on he increasingly starts aping past Disney villains which kind of makes him lose his unique identity. However, I've now realized that there's a deeper reason, which lies in comparison to Dreamworks' superior Wishing Star movie, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, and its villains:

For some reason, the writers of Wish tried to push King Magnifico into all three categories, and it just doesn't work. It is possible for a Sympathetic Villain to develop into a Serious, Scary Villain or for an Unsympathetic Villain to develop into a Serious, Scary Villain. But it is exceedingly difficult, if not downright impossible, to blend or have a transition with a Sympathetic Villain and an Unsympathetic Villain, because that creates way too much of a dissonance. This is where Magnifico was fumbled: before his turn to a Serious, Scary Villain they try to have it both ways, setting him up as sympathetic due to his backstory, seemingly genuine desire to do right by his kingdom even if the way he does it is misguided, and the love he shares with his wife, only to also have him unsympathetic by depicting him as a petty, petulant, thick-headed narcissistic douchebag. This results in confusion in his motivation for why he is doing what he does during the first half of the movie or why he turns to the forbidden magic that drives him mad with power, and also makes it unclear whether we are supposed to see his final fate as a tragedy or a case of him getting what he deserves.

It's very obvious from The Art of Wish that King Magnifico got changed in development. The earliest drafts clearly had him as a humanized villain who starts off sympathetic but goes off the deep end into irredeemable evil; his initial altruistic goals having given way to him just wanting to play God. There's no indication that the forbidden magic was originally going to have any effect on his mental state at all; the fact that he would even use it was simply meant to be his crossing of the Moral Event Horizon, showing that he would rather destroy his kingdom than let anyone or anything other than him have control over it. But the perceived need for Member Berries took a toll on the character, and thus he ended up undercooked.

...Still better cooked than anyone else in the film, though! Go see it for him, people!

Character study: Creepzo and Stolas (part one)

>Both began an unhealthy fixation on one of our beloved clown boys after seeing them perform at the circus. Later, even though it was years in the past, they haven’t forgotten them and continue to sexualise them in their fantasies. Through force they try to forge a real partnership, (performing or as sex buddies) one that exists entirely on false pretences and or guilt from one of the clown boys. They’re both trying to be the surrogate Fizz and the surrogate Blitzø for the other clown.

> “love” at first sight is infatuation and/or lust, not love

>Developed a completely delusional romantic image of their mind with one of the clown boys. An image which ignored their clearly communicated lack of reciprocation, and interpreted it as them being too dishonest, or arrogant, or cruel and cold, interpreted as themselves being the victim in the situation and being lead on.

Unintentionally, the above image is the funniest joke in this show just look how much blitzø doesn’t fit in this scene at all

>Both use force when they don’t get what they want or see one of the clown boys as making a slight against them, and they both genuinely scare the people they claim to love without caring.

>They are both melodramatic and dishonest about how weak and fragile they actually are, relying entirely on pity to get attention

Going by Seeing Stars and Western Energy Stolas is still under this delusion and continues to objectify , sexualise blitzø and coerce him to drop whatever he is doing and be his hero.

Blitz asks why a powerful demon Lord like him, with legions, an army, petrification abilities, demonic possession and evil forms they have all seen firsthand, which have been weaponised against them. suddenly needs help from imps to do his dirty work at every turn.

Stolas comes up with some technical reason why he’s suddenly weak and limited…which Adam Neylan probably came up with five seconds ago before writing this. And he says this while smiling, that he needs Blitzø to play hero cause he finds it hot.

Blitz says he can’t play the game today because his daughters health comes first.

And this fucker laughs at that, and still tries to convince him to drop everything, including Loona, to run to his aid. AND HE DOESNT EVEN FEEL IN DANGER YET!! no he never stopped calling him “Blitzy” even now.

Two other examples of him pretending to be weak for blitzø to come help him or force him to stay next to him are seeing stars and LooLoo land. This dude is lying.

Oh Gosh, Vivziepoop This Revelation Shouldn't Come This Fast

It's not even out yet, but here in a screenshot of season one they reveal that Vaggie is an ex-angel. And from the looks of it an exterminator. Again this series like it sister series doesn't know anything about pace.

I know I’ve said this before but now that the actual trailer has dropped and practically confirmed this, I hate how the original premise of Hazbin changed. It’s distracting how different it seems compared to the pilot. The pilot wasn’t perfectly written, but it was clear what it was about. The princess of Hell tries to open up a hotel to rehabilitate demons to get into heaven. However thanks to the leaks, screenshots from the official account and how the full trailer is just beyond spoilery, the show is now more about the demons fighting against Heaven’s genocide, a bland cookie cutter good vs. evil story since Viv has been very obvious that Heaven isn’t pure and innocent. I get that premises for shows change all the time and a pilot is a proof of concept, but my point is that the original premise was more interesting. Now it’s just going to be your generic episodic/serialized kids adventure fantasy show, with villains and shenanigans. It also sucks how we already know most of the story beats for season 1 because the trailer spoiled it, making the story even more predictable.
