The Day and Night before on Day 24 of Christmas Viewing
On Christmas Eve Day, I’ve got a potpourri of holiday viewing going on in the background. Square Pegs – A Child’s Christmas in Weemawee “Square Pegs” was an 80s tv series that came on CBS created by and showrun by Annie Beatts who wrote for Saturday Night Live in the much celebrated 1st Golden Era of the Not Yet Ready for Primetime Players. Terry Hughes, who also wrote for Saturday Night Live,…

The 23rd of ...
I decided to revisit two specials that used to air on broadcast and cable a lot but now can’t be found on either. One can be found in a meh quality on YouTube and the other has been pulled behind the paywall of Disney+. Also, Bobby Flay Holiday Throwdown and Mary Berry’s Ultimate Christmas and Highland Christmas

Twas the 22nd Day of Holiday Viewing...
I revisited another Rankin/Bass classic that used to air a lot and only in recent years has been seen on AMC, the Cartoon Network and now BBC America. Twas The Night Before Christmas (1974) “Twas The Night Before Christmas” is based on the poem written by Clement Moore in the 19th century. Most people know it or parts of it or phrases from it, such as “visions of sugarplums dance in their…

On the 17th Day of Holiday Viewing I...
On the 17th day of Holiday viewing, I chose to watch the following which fall into category of Christmas being incidental – a background event to the main plot, if there is one. This usually applies to reality shows and horror movies. Homicide For The Holidays

On Saturday, December 14th
I spent a good portion of the day watching the Flintstones holiday marathon (with some breaks for “A Christmas Story,” “Knots Landing”-the Season One two-parter where Gary Ewing falls off the wagon and how and “Ken Burns: Country Music”). The marathon consists of 3 Christmas-themed shows-2 specials and 1 regular episode. Showing them in order as the Cartoon Network has allows you to see the…

Friday the 13th
I could have watched the Original Recipe Friday the 13th movie Franchise or the Friday The 13th TV series (which I bet has a holiday episode), but I decided to watch the Grinch again. I enjoyed livetweeting this version.  I really can’t get into the live action version that starred Jim Carrey. Or the other CGI version. My main bone of contention with them continue to be that I really don’t need…

On the Twelfth Day of the Twelfth Month in the year that is Twice Twelve...
My definition of Holiday Viewing is a little looser than you’d think it would be. Meaning, that I include holiday commercials as holiday viewing. Broadcast tv guarantees that certain brands will air a holiday commercial annually that are usually nostalgia-filled, warm hugs or superhype excitement to get you to tune into the show that’s on their network and/or purchase things from a retailer. On…

Scrooged “Scrooged” (1988) was the movie that kicked off something of a Golden Age for actor/comedian Bill Murray in movies. It would run through about the mid-90s and then re-emerge in the 21st century where Bill Murray managed to reinvent himself as a guy that could do drama and found a home with really quirky directors like Wes Anderson. “Scrooged” was yet another re-telling/reimagining of…

On The Tenth Day of Holiday Viewing
Santa Claus Is Coming to Town Another in the “you have to handwave some stuff” holiday specials. “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town” has been played on Freeform a few times over the weekend, include after midnight of what is technically today, so it counts. “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town” is basically Rankin/Bass’ Santa Origin Story performed by everyone’s favorite stopmotion marionettes. This came…

Day Nine...NINE???
The Nutcracker Scoob So one of the iterations of Scooby Doo during the 80s decided that they would do a holiday episode. It was “The New Scooby Doo Mysteries.” The one where Scooby, Shaggy, Scrappy Doo (yeah, he was there) and Daphne were running the ‘Scooby Doo Detective Agency’ and solving…cases. The typical real estate scammers and some with actual ghouls and ghosts. And the opening theme…

An Interesting Slate of Viewing on Day 8
So this Sunday saw me playing lots of things in the background including “It’s a Wonderful Life”, “The Year Without A Santa Claus (which I jokingly note ‘Santa’ as one of if not THE best acting performances of Mickey Rooney), “It Happened On Fifth Avenue” and “Ben-Hur” (TCM was airing movies that were connected with Jesus Christ, since ‘Christmas’ is supposed to be about his birth.). I do want…
