sometimes before I go to sleep, I always imagine how Horohoro would comfort Ren if his stressed and Ren is wrapped around with a purple blanket and Horohoro would give him tea/water and kiss him on the forehead and tell him that everything is going to be ok

Yuki and Kakeru have been dating and having sex for MONTHS and yet Yuki STILL keeps getting all embarrassed and self-conscious at any reminder that he is a human being with a libido who is in fact sexually attracted to his boyfriend
So of COURSE Kakeru just. Goes all in on this. 'Oh my god do you have a boner :DDD did I give you a hard-on :DDDD' until even Yuki can only be like 'oh my god WE'RE DATING. YES I AM TURNED ON BY YOU, SHUT THE HELL UP.'

Fic Recs: My Favorite Yukeru Fics
Short Stories
and sometimes you close your eyes and see the place where you used to live, by DoctorBlazeIt T | Short Story | pining & romance For Yuki, growing older meant collecting some bad habits, like smoking, or falling in love with your best friend.
august, by reconquer M | Short Story | smut “I’m hungry,” Kakeru says. “What about you?” “I guess I could eat,” Yuki mutters. “Well, good,” Kakeru grins. “Because it’s your turn to cook.”
did you know that frogs don't have ribs or diaphragms, by yunsohno E | Short Story | smut Yuki and Kakeru have sex. And then they talk about frogs.
if i do anything i regret tonight, no i didn't, by sacrificialParsnip T | Short Story | romance In which Momiji orchestrates a situation that involves 2 beers, a shot, and 2 cocktails.
If I Ever Feel Better, by reconquer M | Short Story | slice of life & smut “You can crash here, it’s not a big deal.” “You seem too happy about this,” Yuki mutters. “Of course! I get to have a sleepover with my best buddy.” Kakeru winks at him and Yuki kicks the inside of his thigh again. Like he said. Hell
i wanna ruin our friendship (we should be lovers instead) by bloodyhalefire T | Short Story | romance Kakeru isn’t an idiot. Sure, he’s awful at some things and is occasionally a bit slow on the uptake, but he isn’t an idiot; he knows what touch starved looks like, and Yuki is the fucking blueprint. So he sets out to fix it.
Kisses Like Pink Cotton Candy (Talking To Everyone But Me) by yukiawison T | Short Story | romance “I’m sorry,” Kakeru mumbled. Yuki blinked. He’d expected him to laugh and tell him he was being stupid. “What for?” Yuki said, keeping his voice carefully even. “You know what for,” Kakeru said, which reduced the apology, perhaps, to half an apology.
laughing til our ribs get tough, by a-bigail T | Short Story | pining & romance Yuki and Kakeru have a long night. Yuki relearns what it means to want.
Mood Ring, by reconquer G | Short Story | romance Just like everything else, it starts in the student council room.
Open Season, by reconquer T | Short Story | fluff yuki gets trashed and spills the beans
say it again and again (tomorrow i'll hear it) by eurydicees T | Short Story | hurt/comfort & romance Kakeru confesses. Yuki misunderstands. Ayame's advice actually turns out to be… pretty useful.
student council naptime blues, by a-bigail T | Short Story | pining Kakeru, for once, isn't very tired. Yuki is strangely exhausted. Kakeru tries to help, and is faced with some wayward feelings.
tears falling like snow, by sunflowerstarfruit G | Short Story | hurt/comfort & pining Yuki has a panic attack at school. Kakeru finds him.
Tell Me Something, Tell Me What You Like, by yukiawison G | Short Story | romance He was always off balance. If someone ever wanted to kiss him, Yuki figured they’d sense this imbalance and give up before anything began.
We Go On Walks, by yukiawison G | Short Story | romance Kakeru thinks he’s cursed, sometimes. He’s cursed to keep wanting things he can’t have. He wants Machi to say more than four words to him at a time. He wants his mother to stop pestering him about college. And he wants Yuki.
Longer Fics

Does it Come as a Surprise? (Language of Averted Eyes) by yukiawison G | Novelette | romance Part of Yuki was convinced that Kakeru was making fun of him. He never knew when jokes went too far. He never knew when to stop pushing Yuki’s buttons. And he knew he was good at teasing him. Part of him hated Kakeru for that, for being so easy with his touches, for hitting him where it hurt.
fit back in, by luftballons99 T | Novelette | romance Crushes, curses, and contemporary literary theory: Halloween provides the opportunity to confront fear in all its shapes.

Watch him throughout the year as he tries to reign in these feelings only to find out he might not actually need to.
On Different Pages, by TurnUps G | Novelette | romance Yuki thinks Manabe's teasing him about going on a 'date' with him, and calls his bluff. Manabe is not teasing.
The Other Side of Paradise, by reconquer T | Novelette | angst & romance Uotani points out that Kakeru and Yuki are always touching each other. Yuki panics and realizes some things about himself.
President Perfect, by draebelle T | Novelette | angst & romance Kakeru goes on a wild goose chase to find the forgotten love of his life.
Set it Free, by TurnUps T | Novelette | romance The fanclub girls are annoying Machi about being on the student council. Kakeru has a plan to divert their attention. It's a fake dating AU.

The poor guys on the soccer teams will never know the scale of what happened between the celebrity boy genius Ken and the rando kid who knocked him over and waltzed right up to him after the match😭
The kids on their teams were so ugly it made Daisuke and Ken look way better (and they weren’t even drawn that well in that scene lmfao)

The Yagami apartment designs in episode 21 and Our War Game are drastically different from the rest of Adventure and 02 because Mamoru Hosoda directed them, and tri. seems to have used that same design as 21 and OWG used.
SO
While this post has a lot of good information about the designs in Digimon Adventure episode 21, Our War Game, and tri., it is incredibly inaccurate to the rest of Adventure and 02.
Searea Apartments
Most Digimon fans already know that the Yagami apartment is based on a real-life location. The apartment complex, which consists of about half a dozen different buildings, is called Searea Apartments.
The big building in the middle is the one always shown when there are flashes of the apartment complex from a distance. It can be assumed this is the building where the Yagamis live.
There are discrepancies that could mean they live in one of the other buildings in the complex instead, but there are many discrepancies in regards to which direction the Yagami apartment faces. There are moments in Adventure where you can see the ferris wheel from the balcony and moments where you can see it from the front door, so the orientation of the apartment itself is not agreed upon by the staff.
As far as the buildings themselves, there aren't many differences between the real-life Searea Apartments and the apartment complex in Digimon, but the only thing that really stands out to me is that they gave the building a couple extra floors in Digimon - possibly so that the Yagamis' apartment is an entirely fiction apartment. The Yagamis live in apartment 1306 and it is on the second to highest floor, and those two top floors do not exist in real life.
Yagami Apartment in Digimon Adventure
When Toei released the 15th Anniversary Blu-rays of Adventure and 02, there were settei booklets of each series. The Adventure settei includes floor plans of all of the Chosen Children's homes.
Below is the Yagami apartment floor plan:
The Yagami apartment is labeled as a 2LDK+S, meaning there are two bedrooms, a living room, a dining room, a kitchen, and a storage room. The second bedroom (that is missing in episode 21, OWG & tri.) is labeled as the parents' bedroom, and the small storage room in front of the kitchen (also absent in 21, OWG & tri.) is labeled as "free space" and is about the width of three tatami mats. Neither of those rooms are ever shown in any media (which is why they are completely empty in this floor plan).
The storage room door is shown here in Adventure episode 31 when Taichi first returns home:
The Yagami apartment is shown five times total in episodes 21, 31, 32, 34, and 35, and episode 21 is the only episode that removes the parents' bedroom and storage room. These very obvious discrepancies, much like in OWG, are because of Mamoru Hosoda's direction. Kakudou has stated that there are things in OWG that are not canon to Adventure itself (e.g. Sora's birthday), and I wouldn't be surprised if these alterations to the Yagami apartment are among them.
Yagami Apartment in Digimon Adventure 02
The Yagami apartment is shown a few times in 02...
We see Taichi's bedroom primarily in episodes 17 and 38, though there are a few other glimpses throughout the series:
We see the Yagami living area in one episode and one episode alone, episode 7 when Iori has to call Taichi to tell him that Hikari is trapped in the Digital World and needs help:
This first image, where Taichi is speaking on the phone with Iori, is included in the OP, but Taichi's arm actually blocks the third door along that side of the room. In the second image, you can catch a glimpse of the bathroom door when he hangs up the phone.
And we see Hikari's bedroom in a few episodes. Here are pics from episodes 6 and 43:
The biggest issue with all of this is that Hikari's new bedroom basically appears out of nowhere. We can assume based on the orientation of her room that she now sleeps in what was previously labeled as the parents' bedroom, but that leaves Mr. and Mrs. Yagami with nowhere to sleep (aside from a tiny storage room lol).
It makes sense for Hikari to have her own bedroom now that she is about to hit puberty, but there is genuinely no way for everyone who needs a bedroom to have one in the 2LDK they currently live in. The most logical solution to this is for them to have moved to a different apartment in the same complex that has three bedrooms sometime between OWG and 02, but there is no indication of them having moved, especially considering the interior design of their furniture and wall hangings is (almost?) exactly the same.
Other Apartment Comparisons
OP specifically talks about how Meiko lives in the same apartment complex to compare their apartment designs, as the first tri. movie shows her moving into an adjacent building in the same complex.
BUT
I don't think I've ever seen anyone talk about how Daisuke's family also lives in the same apartment complex. This is never explicitly said in 02, but it is very obvious in certain moments...
In episode 7, when Taichi and Yamato meet up after getting phone calls from Iori, they are clearly standing by one of the Searea buildings.
At first glance, this looks like it's the same two buildings that Koushirou runs between to reach Taichi's apartment at the beginning of OWG, but the building on the right doesn't have the balcony design, so it might not be part of the apartment complex. While they're talking about how someone has to tell Daisuke's family that he'll be home late, Taichi and Yamato look up toward the building on the left behind Yamato, which is definitely one of the Searea buildings.
And in episode 45, when Shuu drops everyone off at their respective apartments, it shows each apartment building/complex immediately before or after showing them getting dropped off. The Searea Apartments are shown between Hikari and Daisuke getting dropped off, and the apartment building Shuu walks away from after dropping off Daisuke has the exact same balcony design as Searea.
Besides the exterior, the interior of the Motomiya apartment is also almost exactly the same design as the Yagami apartment.
I'm borrowing some pics from @reliablejoukido because they already compiled excellent analyses of the Chosen Children's home interiors. I highly recommend you check those out if you haven't yet. The images used here specifically come from their analyses of the Yagami and Motomiya residences for side-by-side comparisons.
The LDK portion is almost exactly the same, right down to the blue tile in the kitchen. The only real difference is that the Yagami apartment has a window on the right side of the kitchen and the Motomiya apartment does not. This means that, in the Motomiya apartment, the room between the front door and the kitchen is big enough to be someone's bedroom (and is actually, funnily enough, marked with a sign that specifically says "my room"). With that name plate, it seems most likely that it's Jun's bedroom, but it could also be the parents'.
Even Taichi's and Daisuke's bedrooms are in the same exact room...
The only real difference between their bedrooms is that Daisuke has a window by his bed while Taichi does not, which only indicates where their apartments are in the building itself.
There are occasional inconsistencies. There's one episode where it seems the Motomiyas have entirely rearranged their living room so that the couch and TV have switched sides but the wall decorations have stayed the same, as shown below:
The image on the bottom left is from the episode in question. It looks like the couch is suddenly on the side next to the bedrooms since there's no door on the wall where the couch normally is.
Aside from this one episode, the Motomiya apartment consistently matches the Yagami apartment design and orientation.
In conclusion...
There is no way to fix the huge discrepancy between how the Yagami apartment is shown in Adventure and 02 and how it's shown in episode 21, OWG, and tri. There are too many obvious design differences to brush either off as a simple error.
My personal preference is to consider Adventure and 02 and their animation direction as primary sources, but Toei has on multiple occasions called the Digimon Adventure verse a tree with different branches of canon. They say that no source is more correct than any other regardless of continuity issues.
So basically, use whichever design you prefer. Or neither. Anything can be canon in your heart 😉
Yagami residence
The other day I found myself needing some information on the arrangements of Taichi’s home for a project I’m working on. Obviously I could have just made up arrangements myself because for my cause it wouldn’t even matter that much but it wouldn’t be me if I didn’t try for canon compliance. I figured maybe someone else was thinking the same before me so I did some research and actually found some takes on this topic.
Taichi’s and Hikari’s bedroom arrangements by @taikaris
Yagami residence “Adventure” edition by @analyzingadventure
Yagami residence “Our War Game” edition by @analyzingadventure
(I didn’t find much more but if you know of anything please let me know, I’m really curious about this topic.)
Seeing these takes on the living arrangements already reveal a lot inconsitencies within the show and being the obsessed-by-accuracy person that I am I couldn’t help but think “I just make a blue print. How hard can this be?” (Little did I know!)
I ended up taking 153 screenshots throughout Adventure, Adventure 02, tri., and Our War Game, sorted them by which direction they’re facing, and studied the one plan of the main room we are given thanks to tri. thoroughly. This will be lengthy but if you want to join me on the way to my version of the floor plan keep reading under the cut. If you’re bored already just click and scroll to the very end where you’ll find the result of this exquisite waste of time.

Translation problems in the official English subs for Kizuna
We’re thankfully in an era where Digimon is getting official localizations again, and with much better quality than we used to, but, unfortunately, Kizuna’s official English subtitles have problems that are detrimental to the movie. (Even worse, the official English dub is obviously based off the same mistranslated script, so a lot of its issues are carried over.) It’s not to say that the movie can’t still be enjoyed well enough or understood with it, but this is a fast-paced 90-minute movie that relies on a lot of nuance in key lines, and it’s not like we haven’t already had issues with things with a more oblique storytelling style getting accused of being “difficult to understand” or “incomprehensible” due to the impact of a less-than-ideal translation (hi, Hurricane Touchdown and X-Evolution).
In this post, I’m going to point out some of the more glaring translation issues in said official release and why they pose a problem. Note that I still endorse supporting the official localized release if you can – it’s very important that we still show our support for Digimon products having demand outside Japan, especially subtitled, and I also feel we’ve still come a long way from the time when official Digimon subtitles used to be borderline bootleg tier – but I’m writing this post as important reference so people are aware of the translation issues if they need to do deeper analysis of the movie’s dialogue. Note that the Dash X Bunko edition of the novel has the movie’s dialogue transcribed effectively word-for-word, so I suggest referring to this translation of it if you would like to reference a more accurately translated version of the dialogue.

#digimon#kizuna#i've probably reblogged this before but i've been thinking about this stuff a lot since 02tb came out#the number of people that completely misinterpret kizuna because of shit like this is fucking insane and i hate it#it really feels like i watched a completely different movie from most people#and frankly i did lol since i've never actually watched the official subs (even tho i own it)#and now with 02tb#even tho i saw the official subs in theater i still feel like i watched a completely different movie from most people#i cannot wait for fansubs of 02tb so i feel actually confident in my understanding of the story#i will impatiently wait for onkei's hard work
