Family

It was a time of year when there was a great whirlwind of activity. She remembered being in Ironforge for it one year; Silvermoon wasn’t that festive, but it was still decorated and the air of the holiday was pervasive. Kharris smiled to herself as she placed the small package under the tree she’d put up and decorated with Castien and Ylaise. She hadn’t gone extravagant for gifts for anyone for a few years now. Books, journals, small trinkets, and favorite foods. But time spent with loved ones was lavished and she made sure she savored it. She would make it out to see Keiran, if only for a day or so. The kitchen at Threadneedle smelled of cookies, candied nuts, breads, and cider. Asarel had consented to wearing the soft, fuzzy pajama pants she’d bought him and she cuddled up happily and frequently. There was mistletoe (Ylaise liked to move it for surprises Castien never minded) and cocoa. Stockings hung up at the Barge filled with bonuses and treats and gifts for Crew with children. The children all got lots of presents. Colored lights bounced off the water and holiday parties came and went on the Barge–some more rowdy than others. For the most part, Kharris was happy with her Winter’s Veil. She felt the soft seduction of contentment wind around her soul, but even that couldn’t soothe her. Curled up in her chair by the unnecessary-in-Silvermoon fire, she couldn’t help the hint of wistful sadness. She’d just sent the Bloodsword Twins their gifts. She knew the gifts would be given, and likely given a hefty serving of respect, but … She was always nervous of sending them things.  Jericho would get them any material desires they wanted. Aelberyn would give them the love and attention they wanted. Iloam would likely find something meaningful and touching to gift them–they were getting old enough to feel the weight of things now. It was bittersweet and she turned her head away from the sound of the courier’s exit. This was the Family she had, and it was a good one. Still… Maybe Ylaise and Castien would have children sometime–but they would likely move out before then. Tali brought her son by frequently. Winter’s Veil was meant to be filled with shrieks and laughter, ripped wrapping and bows strung around the room lost for days until the cat dragged it out again. It was meant to be a loud holiday.  Toys and carols. But every year, Kharris felt herself get a little quieter. @weekly-writing-challenge

Included in a small parcel was an elegant envelope and thick, expensive parchment. The script was less refined than he might have remembered, as if learned and mastered as an adult and only recently. A small tin of personally blended goldthorn tea and a series of packets of seeds from the Kul Tiras with a variety of drawings with descriptions and notations as she felt he might enjoy.

Dearest Ruecien,

I have received your letter and have thought it over. Trouble has been long absent for many of us, and I fear Sinobel is not the only one to start stagnating. We’ve all long kept our noses down and out of the fires that surround us. While good for safety and security, perhaps less so for our many adventurous spirits in the ATS Crew. No apologies are needed for not keeping in touch, as I was lax on this, too, hmm?  Never fret with me, my friend, and call on me whenever I may be of assistance.

A little catching up is in order. I do well, and my Shadow stays with me still. We are happy in each other. Atlas was never was ‘defunct’, and she does well now, recovered from the attack on the Barge a few years back. We returned to our trading partners and deals, hiding our treasures on the island and the Barge until we’ve made even the Trade Prince seethe with our savvy profitability–Castien and Ylaise are always helpful there, they each have such an eye for appraisals. We still go on missions and secure work, but perhaps with too much emphasis on staid seas, rather than satisfyingly scandalous romps. We’ll have to change that. The contents of your own letter align so very well with my own designs, I think we can come to a mutual satisfaction.

I think I can understand your concerns for Sinobel. I think Asarel has much the same for me, and me for him, if I come down to it. ATS keeps me busy, but it doesn't  fulfill me, if I’m being honest, the way we are now. I was never a businesswoman and never much cared for leading. I have kept them safe in  body, but I think our soul is anemic. I am good at keeping the Crew safe and being responsible for them. But I never cared for it, and have lost part of myself in it. Your letter struck me to heart because I saw, in your reflection of Sinobel’s ailment, the certainty of my own. In firming our footing, I’ve lost a bit of my own rhythm and it’s been disconcerting and disheartening to feel my own life out of step with my spirit.

Love is dreadful and wonderful and sometimes the core of it is compromises. I’ll write Sinobel as soon as I’ve finished my letter to you. I hope you’ll join her and not sequester yourself in Pandaria? Please do come and call, I could use your quick mind in helping me. I have some *a larger ink blot is born from a pause* puzzles of my own, and your input as a fellow alchemist would be invaluable.

In a separate package, much smaller but heavier, is included a shiny new compass with the ATS Sextant engraved. Inside is the inscription 'Look out for Trouble’. There is a new leather travel journal of the type for sketches and note taking.

An Out of Character Message from the Red Moon Management

With a few events under our belt, and the first wave of growing pains decidedly upon us, Sana & Kae along with their officers have decided to close hiring IC and OOC for the Red Moon. While we have members who may put alts who become active personalities in the Guild, we are taking no new accounts, no new members from this point forward. It was a hard decision to come to, but we are amidst making some changes to the way the guild functions and how we run events. While we are making those adjustments and our current members get used to those changes - and as we hope, flower under them, we won’t be adding new things to the mix. We’re sorry if that disappoints anyone, we are both flattered and humbled by the interest of the community in supporting our Guild and our events.  But we were always certain of one thing, that the guild remain small, active and personable. We’ve never aimed for “Mega Guild” status and to be truthful considering its focus and nature, it doesn’t suit it to be a large guild.  From this point forward, all recruitment (when it is open) will require an application, an IC interview and for performers an audition. We haven’t got an application as of yet, but that is also something we’re working on behind the scenes.  We do however encourage folks who are interested to sign the guest book, to follow the questions and state their interest in joining. Do this anyway, because when we open recruitment again, we would like to have a list of those who are interested.  TDLR - Recruitment and Hiring are closed for the immediate and perhaps foreseeable future.
