Making Waves Vietnam

The  last week was difficult as we as Mentors knew we would be saying good bye to our students. As you can imagine we had become quite close as you would expect when you are teaching and Mentoring these young individuals and it's amazing even with the language barrier the connection through hand and face movements we all knew what we were wanting to say to each other !The second last day we had completed our teaching and it was amazing how much they had learnt .The basics of Cutting Techniques,foundation of Colour Application and I even showed them a basic Foil Highlight Technique .So exciting now they were going to use their knowledge and techniques they have learnt and do Real People who were coming into the training centre and we would run the day like a salon situation .Will be back to fill you in on how they all went !!!!

Vietnam Making Waves

The  last place we visited yesterday in the afternoon was Thao Dan .It is a Social Protection Centre  which is a local organisation that takes care and protects street children  and creates opportunities for them to be fully integrated in the family and society as well as promoting Respect and Practices Child's rights! We spent some time with these children and sat in on a lesson a former girl who had spent time at this centre was taking the class she was incredible as she was teaching them about protection on the internet ie Facebook and how these children need to be safe from Predators which is very big in Vietnam .They did role playing explaining to these  children not to speak to strangers and not to identify themselves to people they don't know and not to meet up with strangers or except money from people they don't know. I thought this information was so important and relates to all children around the world and it  was so amazing how this young student presented it in such a great way .Her personal story was amazing as she has just completed high school and is working hard to get into university !The young people I have come across here are so eager to learn I'm blown away  by their determination and their Strength. The younger children who were in a lesson drawing and painting in another area of the centre aged around 3 to 10 gave us Mentors beautiful paintings they had done .My heart was touched yet again and I can't wait to show my baby boys this beautiful painting that  this young 4 yr old painted for me .It was a very emotional day but also very fulfilling day and learnt so much more about these programs and  about the children of  Ho Chi MINH CITY

Vietnam Making Waves

Yesterday  was a very heavy ,hard day We started at the orphanage in the morning as we spent yesterday seeing where Wella And Unicef work together and put funds into 3 different organisations My Heart was broken and Sad throughout the day with the things I Fealt and Saw .The  orphanage looks after over 400 children most with dissabilities it was very emotional for me especially personally I think having small children back at home in Australia it reall y affected me personally made me think how lucky I am to have healthy children . these children and babies I saw seemed very happy though and the environment was full of love by the people who were looking after themWe then moved on to the Hospitality School of Ho Chi Minh City where they freely train children who have difficult circumstance so that they can have a stable job and self cover their living fees as well as help their families . The school also provides them to develop their own capabilities and confidently integrate them into a social life ! The school is well equiped with enthusiastic teachers and very devoted staff . This was such a great program for me to see and I Fealt proud to be part of Wella a company I Fealt that is doing so much good in this country .I had no idea they were doing so many great programs I only knew about the Making Waves program so my heart Fealt  so full of emotion and to see the children cooking and learning the hospitality field so they can have a career at the end of this course is truly amazing .

Vietnam Wella and Unicef Making Waves Program

Here is my story and experience being part of this program .Wella have selected 7 of us mentors through a selection process to come here and make a difference . I feel very privileged to be part of this Mentor team as we all come from numerous countries from around the world ! I must say I feel like I have 7 new amazing friends we are all so different but all carry the same Passion Hair !!!!! We re 2 days into the program and as my friends and colleagues know I'm not great with technology so this is my first attempt at using my iPad and documenting this story .The first 2 days have been intense meeting the children, working in a very different environment , the language situation and of course working with a team who all come from different salon and country environments Talk about Challenge !! this is what makes it all so interesting !!! The children are soo keen to learn even with the language being difficult to understand the translators are amazing !!!!! So yesterday we the mentors taught Cuttting !!! Can you imagine I haven't done a Line Below Shoulder Haircut in the last 25 years I mean anyone that knows me I'm a Colour Specialist who can do up to 18 heads of colour a day Full head Foils or a Colour Correctionwith Ease !! Scissors in hand well that's quite hilarious being that I run a Colour Salonback home in Australia and I get to work on top Actors from around the world creating Hair Colours for thief characters on films and TV series !!!This is the beginning of my personal journey and this is where I say to myself What an Experience and to take myself out of my comfort Zone !!!!That is where these children are also teaching me .I.
