By: Jessa Oliveros
@beholdPhilippines
The Higantes Festival is one of the most anticipated events in the Philippines because of its unique celebration. Every year, Angono holds a local festival. Hundreds of gigantic papier-mâché puppets are featured in the parade. The Higantes Festival takes place on November 23 in Angono, Rizal province, which is known as the "Art Capital of the Philippines," and these giants come in a variety of sizes and are clothed in colorful Higantes Festival costumes that attract the attention of the media and tourists.
Base on Angono folklore "Higante" is a symbol of agrarian protest and mocking of terrible hacienda landowners during Spanish colonization. While according to Fas Eastern University professor James Owen Saguinsin, The people were axacting and getting retribution for a tall "katiwala" of hacienda caretaker named Karias Tangkad, who was called to as the "giant" by the villagers. Saguinsin also claims that the gigantic papier mache only began after World War II, when artist Carlos 'Botong' Francisco commissioned Artemio Tajan, the first higante maker, to bring a festive and joyful element to the post-war spirit of the Angono fiesta celebration.
The Municipality of Angono likewise considers the ‘higante’ as the symbol of the people’s aspiration to be great in their respective field and contribute to the development and pride of this town which is home to two National Artists namely ‘Botong’ Francisco (Painting) and Maestro Lucio San Pedro (Music). Kadayawan Festival of Davao City
By: Anna May Decierdo
The Kadayawan festival takes place every year in Davao City, Philippines. The word "Kadayawan" comes from the cordial Dabawenyo greeting "Madayaw," which means "excellent, valuable, superior, or lovely." As a result, the Tagalog word "kadayawan" signifies "pasasalamat at pagpapahalaga."
Kadayawan is a life festival, a thanksgiving for nature's gifts, culture's riches, harvest bounty, and serenity. The Kadayawan Festival of Davao began in 1986 as a collection of tribal festivals organized to highlight the indigenous tribes of Mindanao's thanksgiving rites.
The foundation of the Kadayawan Festival is the pagan belief of the ethnic groups of Davao, despite the fact that it is not celebrated as a religious event. Traditionally, ethnic communities would gather at the foot of Mt. Apo, the Philippines' tallest mountain, to celebrate plentiful crops and perform ceremonies honoring the nature gods Manama and Bulan.
rove.me
The Pamulak Kadayawan is another highlight of the Kadayawan Festival 2021. It's similar to the Panagbenga Festival in Baguio and the Pasadena Parade of Roses in the United States, where flowers and fruits are displayed in colorful floats by businesses, community assemblies, and people's organizations as they parade through the streets, symbolizing the city's abundant bounty.
sunstar.com.ph
An event isn't complete unless there's a beauty pageant. The Hiyas ng Kadayawan, one of the festival's most anticipated events, is held in Davao. The goal of this pageant, which sets it apart from others, is to promote and encourage people to appreciate their culture. This is a quest for a young woman who is aware of her heritage and customs.
sunstar.com.ph
Since you're already in Davao to learn more about their culture, make the most of it by visiting the Kadayawan Agri-Trade Fair, where visitors may buy a variety of fruits and commodities, plants, and furnishings from commercial stalls. In the local market, you may also find handicrafts, accessories, and colorful malong (traditional apparel).
Kadayawan Festival of Davao City is indeed a must-visit for everyone. They have a lot of activities to offer that you and your family will enjoy. If you visit Davao around this period, you will have the ideal opportunity to savor the richness of Philippine culture, cuisine, and traditions. People in the area are friendly and will gladly share their happiness with others.

The Moriones Festival of Marinduque
By: Anna May V. Decierdo
Moriones Festival is an annual event that takes place during Holy Week and focuses on culture and religion in the Philippines' heartland.
The festival takes place on the lovely island of Marinduque, which is often considered as the Philippines' beating heart. The festival's unique name comes from the armor worn by Roman warriors. However, in the context of Philippine celebrations, the term refers to locals who dress up as Roman troops from Biblical times.
marinduquenews.com
The participants dress up in morion masks to portray Roman troops and Syrian mercenaries in the Passion of the Christ account. The Morion helmet from the 16th and 17th centuries inspired the design of the mask.
From Holy Monday until Easter Sunday, morions walk the streets of town, scaring children or engaging in antics or surprises to attract attention. This is a folk-religious celebration that tells the narrative of Saint Longinus, a blind Roman centurion.
themixedculture.com
The celebration honors Longinus, a half-blind Roman soldier who is said to have pierced Christ's side with his lance. According to legend, a drop of blood dropped on his eye after he pierced Christ, and he regained his sight. The miracle led to the Roman soldier's complete conversion to Catholicism, which is why the Filipinos hold a festival devoted to him.
the-demonic-paradise.fandom.com
If you truly want to appreciate Filipino culture and custom, you should visit the nation during Holy Week, regardless of your particular religious beliefs. Religion, particularly Roman Catholicism, is an important element of people's lives and a key factor in interpreting their behavior.
The Moriones Festival is a must-see for anyone seeking a cultural experience in the heart of Luzon, one of the Philippines' most fascinating tourist sites. Bring the entire family to an attractive tourist spot and make some fun memories while you're at it.

4. Tinu-om
The town of Cabatuan Iloilo represents their one proudly famous food the “Tinu-om na Manok.” Yes it’s another popular native chicken soup that is commemorated during the Tinu-om Festival in a 10th days duration of fiesta celebration with colorful expeditions of dances and music in the municipality. Tinu-om is the town's history as well as a popular soup delicacy composed of native chicken souped with spices such as tomatoes, onions, garlic, ginger, and lemon grass, then wrapped in banana leaves. In cabatuan, Tinu-om in native language means “Balot” that means a chicken wrapped in banana leaves. In making this dish, you certainly need patience and follow the right procedure of cooking the tinu-om or you will fail in the process because of the “Maling Timpla” – the wrong taste of proportionality of mixed ingredients.
