In the manga, Soul associates the music he used to lead himself out of darkness, the music that gave him courage, to Maka
And then in the anime, he has a box inside his soul that he used to lock and protect himself in that has his and Maka's names written all over it
He really integrates her into his very being doesn't he.
And then Maka in the envy chapter was like: "Oh, I must just be a chopped liver to Soul..."
