something about rin being betrayed by everyone in her life and in her final moments turning against the only person who would never betray her because that’s all she’s ever known (they make me go insane)

it's the way kitay, rin and nezha drank wine together and stood in silence with each other after conquering arlong for me, it's the way nezha says how he wishes things had been differently, it's the "calm before the storm" moment the book gives us as an attempt to prepare us for the astonishing heartbreaking ending for me.

i'm going to re-read tpw trilogy and annotate it, because this trilogy has become my comfort book. yes, the most heartbreaking and shocking trilogy out of all the books i've read is my comfort book

i will NEVER stop talking about “you’re hurting me”. there couldn’t have been better or more devastating last words for kitay. for so long he endured the pain every time rin called the fire. he never said anything. rin saw how much he was hurting, constantly asked him if he wants her to stop, but he always said no, always said he was fine because he never wanted to deny her anything. because he knew how important the fire was to her. the only time he denies her is at the very end, when rin loses her mind. and even then, at her worst, as she tries to overpower kitay, the SECOND he says “you’re hurting me” she stops. and not only does she stop, but it stops her descent into madness and she has one final moment of clarity. because “rin couldn’t hurt kitay and not worry about it. if she could, she’d be lost.”

STOP making me think about rinezha. i can't do it anymore. enemies to enemies slow burn. enemies to begrudging allies to friends to *almost* lovers. then betrayal, and then they're just enemies who used to be in love. and they both *know* that they were in love, and maybe they are still in love, but they stand on opposite sides of a war because they've both made their decisions and cannot come back from them. there can never be reconciliation for the things they've done to each other, but god, they're still in love. i am literally eating drywall over them

i want to read a hard angst romance fantasy book, with found family and betrayal, sunshine and grumpy trope, guard and princess love story and two siblings in diferent sides in a war and forbidden love (ps. my book idea)
