My name is Junpei Yoshino. And I used to be dead.

Dead. To die. To expire. To pass on. To kick the bucket. To blink for an inordinately long amount of time. The Universe's way of saying "take it down a notch". No Way, Jose. No Chance, Lance. To become a member of the Choir Invisible. To be shuffled off the mortal coil. To unalive.

I lay in the Jujutsu Academy's hospital room with an IV put into my arm and my hands and feet shackled to the bed. The quiet "BEEP BEEP BEEP" of the EKG machine was my only companion. My eyes were assailed by bright light. My skin was assailed by cold. Sensation, bright and sharp and clear, was all around me and I was left alone with the gravity of everything that I had done and what I had become.

Monsters aren't born. They're made. To borrow a line from a certain clown, madness is a lot like gravity - it just takes a little push. And that little push had been exactly what I had needed to fall out of the blue... and into the black. Mahito had used me. Betrayed me. Wound me up like a tin soldier and marched me off to wreak as much havoc and destruction as he desired, and for no other reason than he thought it would be a lark. My entire life upended, people hurt, my mother dead, and that grinning son of a bitch was probably laughing his stupid head off at how easy it had been to take a wounded, bullied teenager and send him off on a glorified revenge quest. It would have been funny if it wasn't so pathetic.

And I am indeed pathetic.
