HEADCANON.

Jellal's mother, Najila, was a painter !!! It started out as a hobby -- but after his father vanished at sea during a fishing trip, she started selling her paintings to provide for her children. And they sold quite well ! She was very talented.

As depicted in this drabble, she taught Jellal a lot about color theory ; he has a very large 'vocabulary' of colors & his eyes are trained to recognize/tell apart an impressively vast percentage of those shades from one another.

granted, he was much better at it as a child -- back when it was much more recent. & While the amnesia he experienced in the Oración Seis arc may have been temporary, it still created a certain dissociation with his past self/memory and especially his very distant memories

She also taught him how to paint ― he'd always been fascinated by what she was doing as an infant. However, he didn't quite get to practice these skills to a level of mastery ; his village was after all raided & he was enslaved at a pretty young age.

I have so many headcanons 😬

Lucy and Jellal have had a lot of really interesting conversations about the similarities and differences of their magic. Their working theory is that celestial spirit magic and heavenly body magic were originally the same kind of magic, which branched off at some point in Fiorian History and became two separate kinds of magic

Yessssss i fuckin love thinkin bout the different branches n strains of magics.

Because apart from Jellal and Lucy's magic possibly being connected due to sharing similarities we see in canon that there are differing types of solid script magics which implies that for every sort of written language that exists in universe then theres a solid script magic for it! (Which means dead solid scripts because of dead languages!)

And Maker magics! And the fact that ice magic exists separately from snow magic, or that fire magic exists differently from smoke magic!

Which is interesting when, in contrast with the lost magics, the modern magics have more branches and separations than the older streams of magic which have blurred distinctions and greater range of what they can do but, have massive drawbacks in how they affect their user physically.

Which begs the question if the reason lost magics eventually got phased out was due to safety for wizards, rather using multiple branches of restricted magics across different (or similar) families than risk their wellbeings using highly dangerous and unrestrained magics.

Fairy Tail: Jellal magic

Some extra heavenly body magic spells I developed I think Jellal could use, because Fairy Tail tends towards just reusing the same spells over and over again.

Heavenly Body Magic: View of the Heavens

This spell would grant someone a bird's eye view of their surrounding area. Jellal takes the spell to an extreme to be able to spy on an extremely large area.

Heavenly Body Magic: Expanse of Space

Traps a target in a void with space manipulation, no matter how much they move they'll never get any closer to reaching the edge.

Limitations: Requires a stationary target, one too distracted to break the spell being cast on it + target is also protected - nothing can reach into it either - so spell can be as a protection spell as well.

Heavenly Body Magic: Void of Space

Creates a black forcefield - spells draws more on the concept of space being impenetrable more than anything else.

Heavenly Body Magic: Gravity of the Moon

Spell lets people jump higher/fall slower.

Heavenly Body Magic: Gravity of Jupiter

Creates an area with super heavy gravity.

Heavenly Body Magic: Heat of Mercury

Creates an area with boiling hot temperatures

Heavenly Body Magic: Cold of Pluto [Pluto /is/ a planet]

Creates an area of freezing cold

Heavenly Body Magic: Summoning of [Constellation]

This spell would summon a copy of an animal constellation made of stars - visually looks silver and hot to the touch, little to no/free will or animal impulses just magic constructs. At lower levels this can be used to make dog-sized entertainment creatures. At Jellal level he can summon them to be the size of houses and used in battle.

I imagine it would look like like the sky turning to darkness, with the constellation appearing in the darkness and the summon appearing on the ground. Limit of only summoning one per constellation - but with 42 animal constellations that doesn't mean much.

[Headcanon Jerza family]

Whenever Wendy musters up the courage to ask Jellal to spend time with her (doing any of her various hobbies), Jellal is always strangely free. In truth as observed by an amused Erza, the minute her hears her hesitant little steps coming towards him, he throws whatever he's holding out the window and pretends he wasn't busy so she never feels like she's inconviencing him..... it would be endearing Erza thinks if the man didn't keep throwing their dinner out the window every other week.

When I used to watch the early seasons of the FT anime , something about Jellal always struck me as distinct about his features. His eyes always looked more prominent than the rest of the guys and I have cracked why.

My guy is wearing Kohl/Surma/Kajal.

Like LOOK at how defined his eyes are compared to another character , you can’t tell me the guy isn’t putting something on. Especially when no other guy or girl character has such defined eye looks (other than Macbeth but it’s obvious he’s wearing eyeliner)

Yes people might say art style for the first season I can agree but look at the characters and then Jellal and tell me if there isn’t something more there.

Look at the guys here , they have dark lashlines but nowhere NEAR as dark and prominent as Jellal.

Even compared to girls from the first season Jellal has a darker and more thicker lash line compared to them.

Look at the difference between him and Erza side by side! He definitely has a more defined lash line! And look compared to FT girls eyes, when it is the convention of girls usually having the darker lashline in anime.

And then Jellal

There's a clear distinction! His is not just more defined and connected compared to men in FT but also females too!

The reason I have come to the conclusion of Kohl/Kajal/Surma is because I HC Jellal with Arab heritage (or whatever would be the equivalent in earthland-) due to his name Jellal (which is basically another spelling of Jalal) and Kohl is known to be used by the men in the Arab culture to beautify them. And also Kohl is used by people in Arabia/India/Egypt due to its medicinal properties for retaining eye health and improving vision!

Also what differentiates for my thinking that Jellal is not using normal eyeliner but Kohl/Surma/Kajal is because of the way it is applied. Other eyeliners can go on the outer eye but Kohl/Surma is traditionally applied always in the inner corners of the eyes, just like Jellal has (in season 1)

(As you can see the girl in the photo above has her eyes lined like Jellal using Kohl/Surma/Kajal)

Considering Jellal’s magic , I can imagine there is a huge priority on his vision due to the speeds he travels at when casting, so it makes sense for him to use such a thing to help him in battle or aid in beating the consequences of using his magic so his sight isn’t compromised and remains strong!

Also because Jellal's magic revolves around using stars/light , this medicinal cosmetic has also been used to protect against the glare of light which would also come to help for Jellal in battle!

So what is the take away from this post? I put way too much thought trying to prove a HC I have had from young but found out it actually adds up now looking at the facts. You guys can tell me if i'm reaching or not with this after seeing the evidence and argument presented.

Also season 1 Jellal Fernandes is an ethnic king and we stan he never forgot his roots. <3

Ultear is back to normal cause I said so headcanons:

-She is always spying on Jellal. That man will never know peace

-Her love language is bullying

-Erik cannot read her mind. He has no idea why. Current theory is that she’s a freak of nature

-If Natsu tells one more person she’s a man. Ultear is ready to go back to jail. He’s fully aware she’s a woman but he thinks it’s funny

-She views Gray as her brother. Lyon is on thin fucking ice

-Ultear will say the most outta pocket shit. Just to get everyone all riled up and leave

-The Oracion Seis is terrified of her. (In the way fairy tail is scared of Erza)

-Every time Lyon flirts with Meredy, Ultear ice makes the ground to have him slip and fall. She reverses it before he can see what happened. So he has no idea why he keeps falling around Meredy. He tried to play it off as “I fell for you” but after the third time it lost its charm

-Whenever she has a particularly bad day, she heads to the beach. She doesn’t have many memories of her mom, but being by the water makes her feel close to her. Sometimes Ultear will speak to it as if Ur is standing in front of her

Crime Sorciere Headcanons cause I'm obsessed

Meredy is the only optimist in the group. It's a bunch of sad drama queens and then Meredy desperately telling them everything is gonna be okay

Jellal just straight up gives up some days. Like everyone's being a little shit and he just sits down and pretends none of them exist. Imagine a parent ignoring their kid yelling their name over and over again.

Ultear and Jellal have huge sibling energy. Richard isn't fully convinced they aren't actually brother and sister

Thanks to Richard repeatedly saying the word love. They all also say it all the time. It's become a kind of greeting between them. "Love?" "Love."

All of them are dumbasses. Not a single braincell in the group. Sawyer blew up the microwave and Ultear in response froze it in time. It still sits in the kitchen halfway exploded.

"So Erik can man up and ask out a Fairy Tail woman but Jellal..." "Shup up shut up shut up"

Meredy is super organized and wants a constant schedule. Erik is the opposite and it drives her nuts (she's convinced he does it just to fuck with her)

"Let's wake up Macbeth" "NO". Do not interrupt that mans sleep

Some Crime Sorciere joining Fairy Tail headcanons:

- Jellal wins his S-Class trial easily.

- Meredy quickly wins everyone’s hearts. She's very close with Lisanna.

- The fact that Erik can hear so well freaks them all out. A lot of them avoid him at first because of this.

- Mirajane plays matchmaker for all of them but instead of relationships, she’s trying to get them to befriend specific members of the guild.

- The Oracion Seis in particular need a lot of help making friends at first. They are so used to only having one another that they are terrible at being social.

- Mira and Erik form a very freaky friendship. She makes him special drinks with poison and he gives her the latest tea of fairy romance

- Jellal gets challenged to a fight at least 3 times a day. Everyone wants him to throw down with laxus or gildarts. He is not interested in the slightest

- Meredy loves the guilds fights. She hits you with the huge grin and then punches you right in the face. She’s a little terror

-Macbeth makes fast friends with Lucy and Levy because he often sleeps in the library which the two girls frequent often

-Sawyer and Richard love Jet and Droy. They are almost always spotted drinking together in the guild

Jellal Headcanons cause he's my baby girl

He's super likable. Everyone who sits down and has a convo with him absolutely adores him. He does not understand why

Jura has a lot of respect for him and has argued for Jellal to get added back to the wizard saints after he was pardoned.

He has so many bromances. That man has like 15 boyfriends

Kids really like Jellal. He feels very awkward around them but they all gravitate to him anyway. He's the type of person to talk to a three month old like their 30. Catch him in the corner explaining politics to Asuka

He doesn't like sweets. Erza nearly died when he told her

He still knows a good amount of passwords to get into magic council stuff. No one knows why they didn’t change it when he escaped but it’s been very helpful for keeping the council off their tail

He's not into the idea of fighting for no reason. He doesn't participate in guild brawls or random challenges.

More Fairy Tail Headcanons:

After the gmg, Jellal still takes time to practice Mystogan's magic just in case he ever needs to pretend to be him again. He's almost got it down, he doubts he'll ever be as good as Mystogan but he's getting close.

Laxus has a soft spot for kids. He's very good with them too (not Natsu level but close)

Juvia remembers Rogue from Phantom as well. She didn’t know him well but he looked up to her a lot too.

When ft members accidentally destroy a town, they sometimes say their name is Natsu. He's been framed for so much property damage. He doesn't even realize it

Natsu freaked out when he found out Erza’s mom is technically a dragon. “I told you she was a monster!!!”

Gray does end up adopting a cat after the 100yq. Juvia is not pleased by this

Visiting Fairy Tail is like going to the circus. Other guilds visit with popcorn and watch the chaos

This is like christmas in an ask! My all time favorite trio!!

When Ultear and Meredy break him out of prison. Ultear starts the bullying immediately. Jellal gets roasted for getting caught and needing a rescue. "What would you do without me? Honestly this is pathetic"

Meredy's sensory link is Jellal's worst nightmare. One time, Jellal wacked her pretty good during a training session so Meredy sensory linked them and kept fucking with the bruise just so he knew it hurt

Ultear's parenting tactic is telling Meredy loudly that she needs to do things or she's gonna end up like Jellal. And then Meredy looks at him with the most horrified face and goes "Anything but that!"

The plan if they ever get caught by the council is to trip Jellal and run. Jellal is aware of this plan and makes sure they know he will grab them as he falls and get them all arrested

Jellal is pretty quiet so they've gotten in the habit of randomly yelling at him to shut up while he's sitting there silently. He is always offended

"It could be worse. I could be Jellal." Is said after almost every assessment of an injury

Man can't even open a book without being called a nerd

Ultear will ask Jellal if she should do something and when he responds she tells him not to tell her what to do. He is so tired

It's all fun and games, of course. Jellal sometimes even purposefully sets it up so they can tease him. (especially in the beginning when Meredy was pretty standoffish but would cheer up just to bully him)

Meredy is really into repeating his name over and over again for literal hours. It is the greatest test of his patience

The second greatest test is when they decide to ask him "are we there yet" every five seconds

Ultear forwards the time on stuff Jellal is holding/working on so it crumbles apart in his hands. He just stares at her until she fixes it

Jellal keeps telling her that she's not nearly as funny as she thinks she is, but that usually just spurs her on more

Meredy did his makeup while he slept once. Man made it through half the day before he realized. He has never forgiven her

More Jellal joining Fairy Tail headcanons:

-Master Makarov absolutely loves him. Jellal causes almost no problems, has never destroyed the guild, helps cleanup after brawls, etc. Makarov would kill for him at this point

-being in the guild has very positively affected his mental health. He’s used to them being kind to him in passing. But he always thought it was just cause of his past with Erza, but now that he’s a member he sees that they genuinely love and respect him.

-Mira and Cana gave him one week to get adjusted before they started relentlessly teasing him. Cana has never called him by his real name. It’s always Jelly bean, Erza’s boyfriend, Jello Shot, etc

-Jellal gets referred to as “Erza’s boyfriend” constantly. Both of them get red and say it’s not like that but Fairy Tail is manifesting.

-Almost every team has fought to get Jellal on their team. He is happy to help out but always reminds them he has his own team.

-Laxus insists that he’s going to steal Jellal from Erza and is almost always seen with his arm around Jellal’s shoulders.

-Jellal and Laxus have quite the bromance.

-He has so many rumors about him. Like literally he cannot even sneeze without someone talking about it.

-Fairy Tail does not care that Jellal isn’t a wizard saint anymore. They refer to him as such and brag about it to other guilds.

- Crime Sorciere is very protective over him. So every time anyone jokes about stealing Jellal from them. They all jump to action causing several fights to break out (it's playful but also he is their baby girl)

Naming headcannons for the main ship's kids that nobody asked for (no gruvia though I'm sorry but I don't have any ideas for them)

Nalu

- Lucy would want to name one of her kids Layla I firmly believe that

- I don't agree with most names I see cuz it seems like most of the time it's just a remix of the names natsu or Lucy HOWEVER Luna is literally just nalu in reverse and that is too fucking funny to me not to include

- I think that a lot of the names Lucy would like would be things from story books she read when she was younger, I imagine her kids names would be Shakespearean (not unheard of in fairy tail ie. titania) or from some other famous literature.

- this is kind of a weird one but for some reason I firmly believe all of the names they would like would be 2 syllable ones, nothing more or less I don't know why but it feels right.

-Natsu is a little harder to imagine what he would like as a name but I think honestly as long as it sounded good like was a good sounding word he'd be happy.

I think they'd like the name hana, no reason why I just think they would

Gajevy

- as opposed to the nalu 2 syllable names I think they're kids would all have very short, one syllable, names. It just feels right.

- I think the names for their kids would be made up words. As in names that don't exist. This is because the names they like would all be in ancient dead languages that levy studies or in ancient draconic which gajeel has been learning (in my head its real)

- if they end up having twins like in the mashima art I think.levy would name one kid and gajeel would name the other

- I like the sound of the word Chen, idk what it would mean but it's sounds right so fuck it it means smth cool af in draconic

Jerza

- this is a little unrelated but honestly I think they'd have the most kids because they adopt almost exclusively, these 2 are building a fucking sports team, single handedly running orphanages out of business.

- also I think they'd keep erzas last name, all their kids would have the last name scarlet because it's special to both of them in a way and jellal likes it.

- oldest kid is def named simon I do not take criticism

- other names would all be star based names that jellal thought of (He is in charge of naming because erzas idea of a good name is like bladestorm the obliterator or smth)

- Rigel, Carina and Juno are some names I think they'd use HOWEVER every single fucking kid has a middle name that is some kind of weapon because erza needs to win at least a little.
