Here we are! The first Tea Time London for the T-Time with the Gurlz network. First of all, I have never been in communion with other transsexual girls with similar complexions to mine in my life. Let that sink in, on Thursday 19th July 2018 was the first time I sat down with two other black trans dark skinned girls in my thirty two years of life. @1.chloe.f brought an artistic nobility to the shoot that was counteracted with a behind the scenes playfulness. @charliecraggs was the one who came in with incisive commentary on whiteness and the thorny issue of privilege in trans women communities that I would not yet be brave enough to broach. The inimitable @4tschan is as arrestingly beautiful in person as on camera, but she is so far from intimidating - marvelling at her beauty made me recognise my own. She makes you feel ebullient in her presence because her effervescence is so infectious. You’re looking at sisterhood in abundance here. The triumph over trauma that our coming together signifies. Our conversation was deep, giggly and transformative. We thanked @ashleybreathe effusively for giving us the opportunity to come together in this way. It was such a remarkable and life changing experience. We can’t wait for you to see us on YouTube. It shan’t be too long until the editing is done. Get ready bitches. This is the dawning of the age of transquarius! #transisbeautiful #girlslikeus #sisters #drinkitin #transgender (at Novotel London Brentford)

Stan: “I’m no one. I want what I am supposed to want, I wear what I am supposed to wear and I work where I’m supposed to work. I stand for nothing. I’ve never fought in a war and I probably won’t ever have to because the next one’s going to kill us all. I can buy things that I can’t afford which means they’re not really mine. I don’t live, I don’t believe. I accumulate. I’m a brand. A middle class white guy. But you’re who you are; even if the price you pay for it is being disinvited from the rest of the world. I’m the one playing dress up Is it wrong to be with one of the few people in the world who isn’t? To have one person in my life I know is real?
Angel:
“… You think of me as a real woman?”

Stan:
“You’d be crazy to choose this life if you didn’t have to.”

And just like that I dangerously broke down into a guttural cry whilst ironing. Why? Because, this was one of the realest interactions between a straight guy and a trans girl I have ever seen. @tomandlorenzo questioned the verisimilitude of the scene because they felt no one was speaking like this in the 80s. I have to respectfully disagree with this generation x analysis. Straight men who lave trans women think deeply about gender. They have to. They just don’t share their musings with the world. In many ways, they are lonelier than us. Stan condensed so much pillow talk I’ve had with men over the years into one beautiful speech. THE WRITING ON THIS SHOW FUCKS ME ALL THE WAY UP! @evanpeters is really knocking his role out of the park. So impossibly cute, my god. And @indyamoore is serving such complexity and nuance. So impressive. “Running Up That Hill” will most definitely be a wedding song for me. And “Slave To Love” as well of course. This love story is touching my soul.

@poseonfx is having a cataclysmic impact on me. The pay off to being so filled with anticipation has felt orgasmic. Ebullience, grace, drama and authenticity leap off my laptop screen. How shocking to be born two years before Pose is set and only now be seeing women like myself on screen. Every shade of diffidence, survival and creativity. I cannot thank @janetmock enough for giving me a mirror that doesn’t distort. I commend @ryanmurphy for responsible working practices and being humble enough to reach out and beyond. Congratulations to @stevencanals on being named a ‘One To Watch’ by Variety. What a time to be alive! Sitting down at my desk, or scribbling into my notepad in bed doesn’t feel so desperate. This show has made me feel that the loneliness, poverty and diligence will pay off. THANK YOU!

“Trans women obviously don’t benefit much from male privilege because the majority live in poverty due to large scale job and housing discrimination. If transgender women are assertive and declare themselves as equals, they try to push them into a docile role or otherwise question their womanhood (‘because [real] women are docile and non-assertive’). They police the gender expressions of trans women and claim if transgender women present feminine, that they’re pushing patriarchal gender roles. If they present as masculine or aren’t attracted to men, they’re “fake transgender” and “don’t really identify as women” (‘because the criteria for womanhood is dressing a certain way and liking a certain gender’). When trans women are victims of male violence, the first thought is that it’s her fault and that she tricked someone into having sex with her (which time and time again have been shown to be false despite the assumptions and stereotype). These same people also participate in rape culture by hyper-sexualizing trans women, claiming that most transgender women are prostitutes and thus are responsible for their own rapes when the 50% statistic is pointed out (victim blaming, anyone?). That also goes further to portray all transgender women as rapists, waiting in the dark corners of bathrooms to rape poor, defenseless little girls. So in addition to denying them victimhood when raped, they also cast them into the antagonist role of their rapists with nothing to base that on besides their own phobia. The anti transgender- or rather, anti trans woman movement is misogyny, rape culture, and patriarchy with a fresh new coat of paint- the anti-thesis of feminism masquerading in a Trojan horse purporting to represent women’s best interests. That’s why all these chants about trans women pushing patriarchy and gender roles are so hilarious. You just really have to sit back and observe the hypocrisy.”

Dear White People,
THIS is how you ally. THIS is how you use your privilege to help us. THIS is how you earn our respect. The White college students in Cape Town, South Africa knew the police would not shoot or harm them so they created a human shield to protect the Black protestors. I’m crying. I’m crying.

“I run with a fabulous circle of people.”
Jill Zarin, Real Housewives of New York, Seasons 1-3 - Let it be known that it is this tagline which has been most pertinent to my success as a writer. Alike everyone else I can’t yet determine whether these are humanity’s last days, or the preparatory period before a golden age where we put everything right or merely the actual case of life imitating art where “The Handmaid’s Tale” becomes full reality. These are special times. As a writer I can drink all this in and promise you something decent in an undetermined amount of time. The artists who I know and hopefully many I don’t, will be providing you with things much more immediately.
