Zine Printing and Conclusion
To print of my magazine I had the choice of either printing it with staple bound or wire bound. I found that with a staple bound zine, my images and text may be cut off or hidden in the middle of the pages which I did not want happening to my zine. Due to this I chose to print my zine with spiral bound because I wanted my text and double page spreads to be fully visible and clear. I also chose to print in the size A4 however to develop my outcome I would experiment with different sizes and possibly print it in A5 instead, as well as sizing down my text as it came out quite large.
Overall, I was satisfied with the work I achieved and how my zine came out. I followed my brief well and used successful references to link to my outcome.

Back cover
At first the back cover of this zine was left plain black with my name and instagram account. However I found this boring and dull, which I then developed with two different textures including a red and black image and a net image, that I then layered on top of each other and edited the tone of the red to make it slightly brighter. In my opinion this back cover was developed well and links well to my zine by using the net image.

Zine Page 33-34
The personal stories spread was developed a few times, starting off with a plain black background and two personal stories, one on each page. I played around with the title positioning and liked the way it looked in the corner with "stories" going down the side, however this layout did not match the rest of the zine as I have not had the title be positioned in this way before. Due to this I decided to keep the title up right with one word on each page. This was then followed by seeing if I could changed the background into something less dull, by adding a red background followed by a texted red background which I ended up using as it looked the best on the page.
For one of the personal stories, I wanted to see if a "diary page" would fit for this spread, which was made on canva, however I decided to not use it as it did not flow with the second personal story. Both the personal stories were found online, one from Emily Elizabeth Prior's master thesis called "Women's perspectives of BDSM power exchange" and the other from an individual on reddit.

Zine Page 29-30
The inspiration for the layout of page 30 came from the magazine Alteern, as I thought the bold, flashy text was different and gripping. I tried out different fonts however the font Academy Engraved LET was the most appealing to me. I then decided to layer a red copy of the text on top to match with the red quote text on page 29.

Zine Page 27-18
This spread was inspired by the magazine layout seen on the top left, I wanted to include a close up of a primary photograph as well as some text. I developed the text by experimenting with different amounts of columns and how the text should sit, finally deciding to put it into three columns as this looked most appealing to the eye. I also developed the image by retaking it again due to the shibari rope ties not being as professional looking as I wanted it to be. I then cut out the image with the lasso tool on photoshop and layered a dark red background behind it to add more red tones to the spread.

Zine Page 23-24
I developed an idea for this page spread whilst taking the original primary photograph of the object and wanted it to lay across the 2 page spread. To edit this image, I cut it out using the lasso tool on photoshop, then multiplied the object making one of the layers red and putting a see-through effect on the top layer. I like how this turned out as the viewer can still clearly see what the object is and how the red looks behind it. I also developed the text on these pages by putting one half of the text in columns, which made the text flow more on the spread.

Zine Page 19-20/25-26
To create these two page spreads I cut out one of my primary images with the lasso tool on photoshop and layered it with a primary scenery photograph. For the second spread I used a secondary photograph which I also cut on photoshop with the lasso tool and layered it with a textured background. I like how these turned out due to the textures linking well with the rest of the zine.

Zine Page 17-18
The page layout on the top right influenced the layout of my zine page as I liked the use of writing and a picture on separate pages. The development on this page consisted of adding a red block behind the text to engage the viewer more and also editing the photograph multiple times to make sure everything to cut out correctly. If I could develop this page more, I would change the tone of red used in the edited photograph and use a more duller or darker effect so that the page wouldn't be too overcrowded with different shades of red.

Zine Page 15-16
This page spread was inspired by the two magazine pages above. I decided to put a red background behind the Oscar Wilde quote as this can be seen as a powerful message and red is both in my colour scheme and seen as a powerful colour. I developed the text from being all the same size to having half of the quote be larger than the second half. I did this because it seemed to look stronger this way and filled up the negative space, on the page, better.

Zine Page 13-14
To improve this page I included an edited primary photo to fit with the quotations on the page. I did this by editing an image of a hand with chains on top of my primary photo, which I then converted to black and white on photoshop and later blended it with a red block behind it on indesign. I like how this turned out as it bring a little colour to the page and contrasts well.

Zine Page 11-12
The magazine Alteern was my inspiration for the title layout. By using this layout it gave the page more flexibility for experiments. I began this page by making it simple and neat, adding red boxes in the middle to add more use of colour, however I then developed it by adding texture to the page. For this I used a piece of grey duct tape which fit perfectly overlapping the two pages. By also putting the text in a red box made it look more put together and appealing to the eye.

Zine Page 9-10
In my zine, I wanted to include an object photograph spread. I got inspired by the magazines layouts on the right, mostly by the Alteern magazine. This spread was black and white to begin with, which was then developed by editing three of the photographs by multiplying the object and adding red effects to them. By doing this, it added more colour to the page which made it link better with the colour scheme of the whole zine.

Zine Page 7-8
Changing the text from one column to 2 and moving all the text to the left made the page look more professional and zine looking. Adding the textured background behind my primary image made the page include more depth and interest.

Zine Page 5-6
For this page I used a secondary photograph edit, and a primary photograph, using red and black contrast, which was inspired by the magazine images shown above. I liked the idea of having just plain photographs with no words, however I decided to use big words coming out of the page including "fetish" and "kink", which was inspired by the magazine page in the top right.

Zine Page 3-4
On this page, I decided to make the title over the full left page to bring importance to the writing on the right. I highlighted the key words that go into BDSM in red and made them bold. I did this to make the writing more enjoyable to read and to bring more colour to the plain white text and page.

Contents Page
For my contents page I decided to use a secondary image i found online from a Aquinian article, which I added a red effect over and cut out the sign, which I then titled it with my zine title to give the viewer a clearer version of the title. I then changed the title for this page from "content" to "fetish index" to have it link better with my zine topic.
For my content topics I chose to include an introduction to BDSM, the evolution of BDSM, stereotypes and misconceptions, physiological aspects, risks in BDSM relationships, healthy BDSM relationships, and personal stories.

Edits
To edit my primary and secondary photographs, I used similar techniques for most of them. I mostly incorporated red effects and multiples.
For my object photography I used photoshop to cut out and multiply my objects, then turning one of the layers red and using a filter on the top layer to see the red though it. For the body images, I cut them out and layered a coloured background with either red, black or textured backdrops.
My secondary photographs included similar techniques, where I cut the object out with the lasso tool and multiple it 3 times, changing the colour and effect of every layer to achieve a repetitive effect. Another style of editing I did on my secondary images was colouring the mage in two different ways, using both the black and white filter and a coloured filter to bring one part of the image to recognition more than the other part of the image. this can be seen in the image (top left) of an individual lying tied up on the floor with another individual stepping on them. I decided to edit this image like this, to show the different aspects of the submissive and dominant roles.
