He's surprised at how MUCH silence goes by before she finally cracks. He , truthfully expected her to break much sooner. But when she does , his gaze flicks up and a smirk tugs at his lips. For a moment , saying nothing at all.

' Aren't you aware that this is a library , Granger ? ' He begins , his gaze flitting back down to the pages of his book that he was only absently skimming. He hadn't even bothered to check the title before grabbing it , though the text tells him its related to the history of magic. How dreadfully boring.

' . . . Libraries are supposed to be quiet. So I'd pipe down before you're asked to leave for . . . ' He flourishes a nonchalant hand ' . . . disturbing the peace with your silly questions. '

Hermione glanced up from the book she was reading, being met with those silvery grey eyes that she knew resented her as much as she thought they did. What did he want? To annoy her? Get under her skin? Spit slurs at her again? Who knows. She didn't have the energy to deal with his attitude; she didn't want to deal with it, actually. How his friends handled him, she'd never know, and didn't want to, either.

She watches as he takes his seat across from her, plopping a book on the table and actually beginning to read it. He said nothing to her... absolutely nothing. Was he feeling well? He usually ALWAYS had something to say, especially when it came to her.

Her eyes glanced back down to her own book in an attempt to just get back on with what she was doing... but how awkward was this? They were sitting across from each other, not saying a bloody word! No insults thrown, hexes cast—naff all!

And that was when her eyes decided to move up, to look over at what book he was reading, whether it was to study or for leisure. Possibly both, but she certainly wasn't going to pipe up over it. The less arguing, the better. They could just sit here... and weirdly be in each other's company, right? Surely—

❝...You're aware that you don't have to sit here, right?❞ Hermione Granger, you couldn't help it, could you? She mentally cringed; she could've kept her mouth bloody shut! ❝I mean... there are other open tables.❞ Her shoulders shrugged. Her tone was neutral, really, no bite or anything behind it. Curiosity just got the better of her. Why would Draco Malfoy want to sit on a table with Hermione Granger? Other students would think something was wrong with either one of them! Suppose that's what you'd expect, considering they'd been at each other's throats since the start of the academic years. Sigh. Awfully draining, she'd say.
