Hello Everyone! My name is Kayla Scheppler. I am 24 years old and I am a Grad Student at Full Sail University. I am getting my Masters degree in Entertainment Business and I believe that the industry (especially the music industry) needs something different or old school to get sales back. Award Shows need to go back to the old ways and we just need to find ways to bring money in. I have my own business that I currently just started and the name is #KayRaeMedia. Please feel free to like my Facebook page and Website for my business! Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/kayraemedia/?ref=settings Website: https://krscheppler.wixsite.com/kayraemedia.

My Entertainment Business Degree Experience.
Hello everyone,
Today, in my Mastery Journal I am finally telling you how things have gone throughout my 12 months of my Entertainment Business Masters program. Tomorrow at 11:59pm, I will say good bye to being a student and hello to my future as a graduate. The class I am currently in is for my “Final Project”. We had to write this very detailed business plan that I could one day use in the future if I wanted too. We got to learn about how the world works with investors and how you have to have money to put into your company before even thinking about talking to someone about getting a loan. You need your entire first, second and third years figured out and mapped out. I had a completely different view of what was going to happen within these last 12 months, but I wouldn’t regret anything.
When I first started this journey, I was just starting to recover from being in the hospital twice. Once from having two PE’s (pulmonary embolisms) and then having double pneumonia. No matter how sick I was, my goals never changed. I charged through and never quit. I remember in my first month for my Mastery Journal post I talked about my business #KayraeMedia, which unfortunately never took off like I hoped it would. I instead started a new journey later on down the road that is my own business, but I work with a team that supports me and my goals. I also talked about having an auto-immune disease and wanting to talk to kids and adolescence about how to overcome it and reach for the stars. Although, I still struggle with my disease daily, they should know it has not stopped me on reaching my goal to graduate and do it with almost perfect grades. I had also set up my LinkedIn page, getting a Logo created and taking a screenshot of my Feedly page. I also was told to pick a favorite quote that I wanted to live by and the quote was “Before you are a leader success is all about growing yourself. When you become a leader success is all about growing others.” – Jack Welch. This quote will forever stick with me because I truly believe it. You as a person needs to grow and learn its true value before you can be a leader to others. I want to be a great leader, someone people can come too for advice and how to work on the things they are lacking, someone they can respect. Also, in month 1, I made a timeline on how I saw things going for the last 12 months and I have done everything I set out for myself. Finally, I did one more quote, “Nothing can dim the light that shines from within.” – Maya Angelou.
In month 2 Executive Leadership, I was told to discuss about my readings and GoTo Sessions. I talked about how the Maxwell style (which is a leadership style), was appropriate for me. Personally, I could not be as domineering as Greene’s style. In my post I state, “I have emotion and I work within a set of guidelines that I go by. I relate more to the 20/80 Principle, also known as the Pareto Principle.” This class taught me what type of person I am as well as what type of leader that I saw myself being one day. I also talk about my PM Plan. I changed it up a bit and made my assignment about YouTube. I wanted to do videos about life, hair and makeup, but I also wanted to talk about the things that I have gone through in my life and show other girls dealing with similar situations that they are not alone. Bullying, auto-immune diseases, anxiety and depression are normal things to talk about and I believe it needs to be talked about more often. If kids with anxiety talked about what made them anxious maybe it could help them control it. We are not alone, and more people need to do something about it.
The next post is about Business Storytelling & Brand Development. I expected it to be a writing class but to my surprise it was more about branding yourself and your company. In my post, I talk about how everything has a trend and at that time and still almost a year later EDM is a very popular trend. More and more festivals are starting to become popular and advertised a lot more because the target market has expanded.
After our long Christmas break, I started back up in my Entertainment Business Financials class and it was one of the hardest classes I have ever taken and I still agree on this statement. I know overall, math is something people in the business world need to deal with every single day and I was prepared for this class. I just didn’t realize it was going to be as hard as it was. I love working with QuickBooks and I wish it had more of that involved, especially since most businesses use it.
For my next month I had to post my certificate for Lynda.com on Marketing and Monetizing on YouTube. A lot of YouTubers have been talking about how their videos keep getting Demonetized and that means they aren’t making money off of them. I wanted to learn new digital ways to promote my business and YouTube was one of those ways. I soon realized that after YouTube changed a lot of their rules videos and other problems like YouTubes subscribers were not getting notified when they would post videos or YouTube was unsubscribing subscribers from YouTubers channels. It was a large mess that I started to back away from and I learned how to use Facebook Live to talk about my products.
One of my favorite classes is next, and that is Negotiating and Deal-Making. I have always loved the law side of the entertainment business world and that is what I wanted to do after school but with other things going on I am putting it on the back burner, but I am hopeful that one day I will get to learn more about law. I learned how to negotiate contracts with customers and how to not use negative emotions when in a negotiation because it could turn a good relationship into a bad one quickly.
My next post is about my Product and Artist Management class. I remember being nervous for this class and looking at it before the first day. I loved that Professor Winn let us write papers that had more of our opinions in the paper and not so much the APA format that most classes look for. I genuinely enjoyed her class and loved her as a professor. She explained everything so well and set everything up so that we could learn both subjects separately so that we wouldn’t get confused on the information.
Advanced Entertainment Law is another favorite of mine. Like I said previously, I love law, so this class was exactly what I was hoping for. This class was everything and more of what I expected. I enjoyed learning how to fill out the proper documents for copyrights and trademarks. I also enjoyed researching cases with real life liability issues. If you are a future Entertainment Business Masters student, watch all of her GoTo Trainings, read the required chapters and you will do great in the class!
One of my favorite professors taught this next class and I am so glad I got to enjoy her teaching twice. Professor Craft teaches Entertainment Media Publishing and Distribution. My main goal for that month was to take as much information in as I could. Professor Craft is very organized and explains everything so well for the students. She explained everything I needed to know, and it made it a lot easier for me to write notes. I also take a lot of what I learned personally. I believe with the right tools and the right mindset, you can achieve anything. I love writing and some of my stories I feel like I should self-publish or talk to an agent and get it published. I have an imagination that doesn’t stop, and I enjoy it. This class let me live on through my imagination and showcase it to the professor and maybe someone else one day.
Finally, last month’s class. Business Plan Development. This class started us on our business plan and getting it prepared to present it for our Final Project. It is a lot of work and it’s not something to do in one or two nights. Spread it out and make sure you give yourself enough time to do both research and writing. This class sincerely puts you right in when the final project class starts and if you get everything done the first time you will only have to fix things and final proof it for the final copy and slide show. Overall, I am so glad this class existed because it helped me spread everything out and know what I needed for my final project and what I didn’t need.
I also want to thank every professor in this program for making it the best experience I’ve had at Full Sail University.
Also, good luck to future Full Sailers!

Business Plan Development
The title gives it a way of what the class is about and that is your Business Plan. Now going into this I wasn’t sure what exactly the business plan would look or the process of it all. My goals were to get everything done correctly the first time and learn as much as I needed to bring with me to my Final Project Class. I believe in the course I have done well but I could have done better. I have learned how to do a Monthly Marketing Budget, a Monthly Sales Budget, a Staff Monthly Budget, Start-Up Costs and a Monthly Income Statement. I have also learned out to write out a Business plan. In the business plan you discuss your company’s marketing description, the market size and readiness, which basically means does the market still have a big market or is it fading away. You also talk about industry trends and strategic opportunities. The other portion of the business plan talks more about the company and who will be a part of that journey. I also enjoyed watching interviews by Sara Blakely and her company Spanx and also listening to Jayson Whitmore. I really enjoyed the class and think it was very well explained and I understood the directions. Professor Burhoe is a great teacher and helped me through this month especially in the beginning when I was having health issues and in the hospital. It is a lot of work but if you start Monday, do about 3-5 hours each day it will not be so overwhelming. This class is getting you prepared for the final project class so pay attention to detail and do your absolute best on each assignment. Watch the videos that Professor Burhoe gives you, it will help in the long run. You are truly getting ready to put everything you’ve done into one final project so if you do it right the first time you will not have to redo a lot of the work later. Also, if i ever really wanted to open up my own production company, I already have everything done to present to investors. This class has given me the tools to make my dreams become reality.  I truly enjoyed the class and wish all future EBMS students’ and good luck!

Entertainment Media Publishing and Distribution.
Today I am going to be talking about my class, Entertainment Media Publishing and Distribution. My main goal for this month was to give it my all and take in as much as possible. I am nearly done with my Masters Degree and I want to take in each class and everything that comes along with it. This class has definitely met my expectations. My professor is particularly one of my favorites. She explains everything thoroughly and I love how she sections every chapter into PowerPoint presentations. It makes it easier for me to take notes. I have learned how to create a film treatment and how to make a tiny idea in my head a possibility. I took one of my short stories and decided to use it for class. I also reviewed PROs, and licenses. I want to work at a recording studio and licenses and PROs will probably be something I will hear while working in that surroundings. I am very proud of how I am doing in the class and how my expectations of what I can do, went over and beyond. Although I had a slight detour when it came to my health, I still was able to get my homework in and not miss deadlines. I want to thank Professor Craft for being understand and working with me this month. I also want to thank her for teaching me such amazing information and making sure that I could comprehend it all.

Advanced Entertainment Law
This is probably one of my favorite classes. I love the law side of the entertainment world. I have always loved law but the fact that I get to learn about how the law works within the field I want to work in is an added bonus. This class was everything and more of what I expected. I enjoyed learning how to fill out the proper documents for copyrights and trademarks. I also enjoyed researching cases with real life liability issues. Each assignment was very informational and well explained. I appreciated how organized Professor Willard made everything. It made everything easy to comprehend and I extremely appreciate it. Although, the class was challenging it was the type of challenging I appreciate in a class. It tests my knowledge and also how to use my new knowledge in the assignments. Professor Willard explained everything exceptionally in the Go-To Trainings, which made knowing what exactly she wanted to see from us. I can use everything I learned in this class to both my entertainment business world and to my job as a Younique Presenter. I have to make sure I have all the rights to what I post or advertise. If I do not, I know exactly how to get those rights and permissions. I also know if I create an IP (intellectual property), what to do and how to get my rights for those. I would like to thank Professor Willard for making this class fun and beating my expectations. To the next students entering her class, give it your all and you will do wonderful in her class. She explains everything thoroughly without you having to second guess what she wants. Also, you are so close to the end! Do all of your assignments, watch every Go-To Training and read your textbook and you will do great! Good luck!

Product and Artist Management
Before the start of a new class, I go onto connect and look to see what the name of it is and to be completely honest I was a little nervous. I remember learning about artist management for my bachelors, but product management was going to be a new subject and I wasn’t sure how they were going to correlate the two. After week one, the nerves subsided but I knew that this class was going to be harder than any of the other classes that I have taken for my masters. Professor Winn explained how she was going to be splitting the two subjects up and how Project Management is usually a semester or years’ worth of information squished into two weeks.
I’ve been working really hard and definitely expected this much work for this class. I appreciated the detailed instructions Professor Winn gave us in both the videos and the pdf files. She made everything easier to comprehend. The overall class was very well structured and taught me things that I can use now use as a Younique Independent Presenter and for when I walk into the music/entertainment world. We had to work hard for our grades and I also appreciated the fact that she wanted to know more about what we knew and what our opinions were than seeing what we found while researching. To me, it seemed like she valued our opinion and wanted to see what we knew about certain topics. So, I genuinely enjoyed not always writing papers in APA format. I feel like I’m a robot when I write papers in APA format and I can’t put my personal opinion or thoughts into it without having a cited quote or paraphrase nearby.
I would like to thank Professor Winn for this month and hope to have her in a future class.

Negotiating and Deal-Making
Hello everyone,
This course was extremely fun and informed me in a lot that I didn’t know about negotiating and deal-making. I really enjoyed taking this class and if I could I would take it again. I have always enjoyed anything that dealt with law. Maybe because I like to debate and explain my point and opinion a lot. I believe this class taught me a lot about negotiating and how my personality being an Inspirer communicator. It showed me how to not use a negative emotion when negotiating with someone because it can turn a relationship with the company or person you’re dealing with into something awful or have no relationship at all. I have actually used what I have learned in this class for my real-life negotiations. I recently helped my parents sell their pool and had to negotiate the price of it when two buyers both wanted it. I think overall, this class is something all entrepreneurs need to take because somewhere along the lines you will have to negotiate something. Whether it is for your personal life or your business life. There is nothing that I would change in this class. It was well laid out and very organized. I am a student who desperately appreciates organization because I feel like when things are not organized that it is a jumbled mess (in my head). I understood every assignment and didn’t believe it was too hard or too easy. Everything gave me a challenge to do my best and I appreciate that from our instructor. I am a visual and kinetic learner, so the real-life experience was necessary and everything not being a video and written out helped tremendously! I know some of my classes everything was in video format, and most of the time you cannot get closed captioning on the videos which was difficult for me and  I really appreciate the written-out instructions and information.

My general goal for this course is to learn new digital marketing techniques for my business and future ventures. I want to learn how to make my website stand out and bring in more views than it normally would if I didn't take the course. I enjoy learning new things about computer trends and long tail phrases to find information easier. I enjoy watching vloggers and YouTube videos and with my new job as a Younique Presenter I would like to become a YouTube creator. YouTube is owned by google and it is free to use. Like Anson Alexander says, when you want to market a product or to just start making money on a YouTube channel to start making a list of goals. Set expectations from YouTube. "The most important thing about marketing is Brand Recognition (Alexander, 2014)." I need to know how my channel is trending, so I would want to reevaluate the views, likes, subscribers and comments after every 30 days. I need see how much money I am making to see what my subscribers are into which month made more money. Things that I will apply in my personal and professional life is always adding your social media links on YouTube or any other platform. I would always make sure to get involved with my subscribers. I would love to get their insight and have a community tab to take polls to see which type of video they would like to see. Anson also mentioned having page art on your YouTube. So, for example Bunny Meyers aka grav3yardgirl. Her banner is a cartoon version of herself and then her YouTube name and PO Box address. Very simple but very cute and relates to her personality. I will also review my YouTube analytics and my Facebook analytics for my successes, my failures and my trends.

Entertainment Business Financial
I am going to be completely honest. This class was one of the hardest classes I have taken. I unfortunately, am not very good at math and it can be honestly be clean cut and I just don't comprehend it. Overall, the class was exactly what I expected it to be. It definitely challenged me, and I am glad that it was a part of the curriculum. I believe that being in the "Business" venture side of the world you have to know financials and even though it is a hard spot for me to learn, I aim to practice and learn more even though the class is over. I had a very good instructor and I thank him for explaining things the way he did. I try to get things on my own, but I know asking for help isn't always a bad thing. The assignments were what I expected, tested your knowledge and how to do equations with the right information. Personally, I like working with QuickBooks and I would have liked to see something involve that in an assignment. It was an interesting class and like I said, I am glad that I got to learn more about the financial side of the business world. I do wish the week 2 assignment charts and questions had more of an explanation to them. Other than that, I do believe everything else was self-explanatory. I cannot wait to move on to next month's class and begin a new chapter of my master's degree. I intend to bring all of my knowledge with me to the rest of my classes and hope that it brings an easier road to graduation and my final project. Good luck to the rest of the students and have a great last week of Entertainement Business Financial!

Business Storytelling & Brand Development.
Hello Everyone,
For this months class I was excited to learn about Business Storytelling and Brand development because I thought it would be something like a writing class. I am someone who loves to write and storytelling is something I am very good at, but at my surprise it was a little different than I expected. This taught me a new way to brand my future company and myself. It has also show me how to explain a companies brand in a story like fashion. I like being surprised when it comes to a class and learning new ways to promote and help my future. I can use the branding skills from weeks 1 through 3 and apply them to my every day life and also when I start working for a company or have my own company. For example, everything has a trend. The Entertainment Industry has many counter parts, Music, Movies, Television, Amusement Parks and more. A trend in music right now is rap and EDM. Artists like The Chainsmokers, Zedd, Excision, Alan Walker and many more are becoming house hold names for the EDM world. Movies have a trend as well, they have their romance movies and usually they end with the happily ever after ending, they also have the remakes of old scary movies such as IT. Amusement parks have a trend on having the tallest and fastest ride. I have learned how to write a company overview and what I would like to do in the future with my knowledge. I want to have a company where I can do everything I love and enjoyment to my customers. I want to have a company that makes Female leads important. To show that scary movies and thrillers can be acted by women and not just men. I want to be a house hold name and be a place where actors, musicians and employees can come to talk if there are issues. Overall,  I have extremely enjoyed this class and I hope everyone else did as well. I am also ready to move forward and start another class after the long Christmas Break.

My PM Plan
This month was a lot more than I had expected. I had to make a project for the possible future and overall, I wanted to do something that I loved and enjoyed and that is YouTube videos about life, hair and makeup. I love music and I love movies and television shows but I also have a huge spot in my heart for hair and makeup. I also want to talk about things that happen in my life, bullying, auto-immune diseases and so much more. I want people to know they are not alone. This is something that I could definitely see myself doing and making this project a reality. In my opinion, Auto-Immune diseases are something people need to be more educated on the diseases. I don’t understand why these diseases weren’t talked about more often. Some are deadly, if you have one you can most likely get or have another one. It is a scary reality but it is something young teens and adults need to learn about. They can be very silent diseases until the worst happens, such as needing an organ transplant or needing surgery to remove your thyroid. Same with bullying and that is something that scares me. Bullying is becoming so natural to kids that younger and younger people are turning to suicide. I want these girls and boys to know that it is not always going to be this bad. It does get better. I was bullied most my life but horribly my junior year in high school and to this day I have to take medication to keep my anxiety and depression at bay. I am so much happier now and since I graduated High School, life has changed but I need these younger people to know that it does get better. Just make it through those years and go to college and be yourself. This is why my PM Plan is something that can be a reality. I want to be a voice.

Executive Leadership: Mastery Journal Entry
Based upon my readings and the GoTo Sessions, I believe the Maxwell style is appropriate for me. Personally, I could not be as domineering as Greene’s style. I have emotion and I work within a set of guidelines that I go by. I relate more to the 20/80 Principle, also known as the Pareto Principle. Also reading the chapters for the last three weeks and watching the GoTo Sessions it has taught me more about my leadership style and how even though with the type of career I want with my company and my singing career, I want to be someone others can look up to and are comfortable coming to me with all problems within their life. In a way, I have learned my leader techniques from my father and he is a mixture of both the Maxwell technique and Greene Technique. There is a chapter that caught my attention and that is Chapter 3: Integrity. In my personal opinion, I think leaders in today’s society forget that. They get so self-involved and care about themselves and their company more than they do their employees. “’The first key to greatness’, Socrates reminds us, ‘is to be in reality what we appear to be.’ Too often we try to be a ‘human doing’ before we have become a ‘human being.’ To earn trust a leader has to be authentic (Maxwell, 1993, p. 37).” I believe another great point that Maxwell points out is that, “If what you say and do are not the same, the results are inconsistent. For example: I say to the employees ‘Be at work on time’ [but] I arrive at work late. Some will be on time; some won’t. (Maxwell, 1993, p. 37).” Your actions speak louder to your employees than your words. You must follow the same expectations that you expect them to follow or why would they trust anything you tell them?
