I wrote my first essay for my first photo class on this image. Ever since, this book, Raised By Wolves, has remained an item I lust after. I couldn't help it. I got sucked. The text, the artifacts, the story - it was haunting and beautiful at the same time. My paper got ripped to shreds, but I still loved the class, and photography, and spent the next four years trying to impress my professor. If I'm honest, probably the next three years after as well. Some images, some work, just stays with you. Some day I'll have my own copy of this book. Some day.

All Images from the series Americana by Jim Dow
Congrats to Jim Dow on receiving the Griffin Museum’s Lifetime Achievement Award! Dow’s work effortlessly blends motifs and mannerisms a la Walker Evans, William Eggleston and Willam Christenberry into a style and vision all his own.
"Dow has informed a myriad of students that include Nan Goldin, Philip-Lorca diCorcia, Kathy Kissik, David Hockbaum and Doug and Mike Starn to name just a few. With his RISD roots and his great love of the journey, Dow imparts the notions that he learned from his continuum of photography role models. “Harry Callahan taught us to find all that you care about and care about it very deeply, said Jim Dow. “That is a luxury these days but that is one of the most important things that we can do.” We at the Griffin Museum of Photography would like to acknowledge Jim Dow as an influencer for the medium of photography.” – Paula Tognarelli, Executive Director and Curator of The Griffin Museum
