Fictitious Project Revision

The purpose of this activity was to take the feedback from our instructor and make edits to our website as needed. By receiving the feedback, we are able to better our website based on a viewers perspective and not just our own.

The three major changes that I made to my website were the shape of the background for my customer feedback section, removing the Instagram section and also entering in the menu manually by using a menu app through Wix. These changes definitely improved the overall look of my website and I think that they were needed. By inputting the menu data, customers are now able to see pictures of each food dish and the description is much larger and clear to read. These were much needed changes that I appreciate the feedback on.

RISE Portfolio Feedback

The purpose of this activity was to give helpful feedback to one of our classmates in regards to their Portfolio Site they created. By reviewing other websites, we are able to give positive feedback and suggestions while learning different ways to better our own websites. I found this very helpful in my overall class experience and discovered things that I would like to incorporate into my own site.

Portfolio Site

The purpose of this project is to get started on creating our own personal website. By creating a website for ourselves, we are able to showcase are skills and work that we have completed so far within this program.

I’m very proud of the website I was able to create for myself. I think that the overall design fits my style exactly how I would want it to. I love the design and layout of the website.

I do understand that I will be adding more and more content throughout the upcoming months to my website and look forward to playing around with it a bit more in my other classes. By added more completed projects and information, I’ll be able to keep my information up to date.

I really l like everything about my portfolio site but I really like the Home/About me page. I like how I’m showcased here and I get to let people know about me right from the beginning.

I think that my projects page will always need the most work because I’m evolving as a professional. Right now I don’t have many projects that I feel are up to par to showcase but I hope to change that and be able to add other designs to show viewers.

The three goals that I would like to set for myself with my website would be within my projects page. 

1. I would like to add more relevant projects to showcase.

2. I want to add more photography to this page to also show what I can do behind the camera.

3. I want to design a better layout to showcase these projects all together.

Self Assessment: 

Thinking about how far I’ve come in the past year in my program, I’m extremely proud of the work I’ve been able to accomplish. Going from knowing nothing at all about fancy programs and how to work them, I’m becoming more and more comfortable everyday. I’m especially proud of the work that I’ve been able to accomplish in this course. Every project that I’ve done has been a learning experience and has come out exactly how I had envisioned it. The plans that I have for my personal portfolio site have me the most excited. I think my vision with my style board and layout of my website are great and I feel confident that I will be able to create something beautiful and how I want it. I think that I have a strong sense of the projects that I want to use to start my portfolio plan and that they will mesh well together and with my design. It may be tough to incorporate the different projects that I've created but I’m confident that my work will look great on the website. The 3 main goals that I want to focus on with my website is the overall flow of the site, professionalism and creating something that is pleasing to the eye. I want my site to look as professional as possible.

Portfolio Style Guide

The purpose of this activity was to create a signature style for ourselves and our personal brands. For this assignment, I chose to use myself as my brand instead of my small business Oh Deery Hoops. I was able to create an overall natural and beautiful style guide that I will use when creating projects for my personal brand. I used fontify.com as my template for my Style Guide and found it to be a bit confusing when trying to save to my computer. The template that they use are separate pages so I have included screenshots of each page here.

Fictitious Site Launch

The purpose of this assignment was to dive into the world of website creation and design. We were able to let our creative side come out and bring the content that we’ve been planning to life. This assignment was a great way to get some much needed hand-on experience.

This assignment was really fun for me and allowed me to show my creative side. I was able to meet all the criteria that I had outlined in my site map but did make a few adjustments to where each page would be. I decided to make the About Us/Testimonial section the first page after the homepage to allow the customer to learn about the business right away instead of keeping it at the bottom. I was able to deliver the content that I had promised in my outline. The most challenging part of this project was trying to figure out the Wix editor itself. It was a little challenging to find certain things. For example, the Contact Us section. Since this is a separate app within the Wix database, it took me a few minutes to figure out where to find the exact content that I was looking for.

I think that the website overall came out great for being my first attempt. I would like to dive deeper into the design process and maybe include a few more design aspects but I’m very happy with how it came out.

Content Management Systems (CMS)

The purpose of this activity is for us as students to get hands on experience with designing a website for a client. By exploring CMS websites such as Wix, it helps us get a better understanding of the design aspects that go into creating a user friendly website.

I have chosen Wix as my CMS platform because I’ve actually recently had to use Wix for my part-time job. Becoming familiar with the website through that, I noticed immediately how user friendly it was. Though I haven’t edited websites through Wix often, I feel comfortable choosing it with the little knowledge that I have. The template that I chose was the closest one to what I had pictured for my design idea with my project. I really like how the menu bar is to the side and not across the top. This is something that I wanted to incorporate into my design from the beginning. I really like how image oriented this template is also. I think that the website will look great with a good amount of pictures from both customers and the business itself.

Writing for the Web

This blog post and advertisement are based around introducing Reel Deal Tacos to the food truck scene. I’m highlighting their very first event at the Downtown Gaslamp District in San Diego. The purpose of this activity is to create eye catching content that will get people interested in the product we are advertising.

What’s better than tacos you ask? How about freshly grilled fish tacos…out of a truck! Reel Deal Tacos has joined the food truck family and is serving up some seriously delicious food. This unique taco truck is new on the food truck scene but you’d never know by the taste of their grilled to perfection fish tacos or their ceviche prepared fresh when you order. Looking for something on the sweet side? They’ve got you covered there with their yummy desserts (I recommend the churros!). You’ll be able to find them all over San Diego in the upcoming weeks but first, make sure you check out their great deals that they’re cooking up at the weekly Food Truck Bazaar in the Downtown Gaslamp District this Friday, April 13th! You won’t be leaving this event hungry, that’s for sure.

Content Strategy

Foundations of UX: Content Strategy is a Lynda.com lesson that was created to help students and professionals understand the meaning of Content Strategy and the different steps that it takes to create meaningful content for a client. By learning the key roles that each step plays in the process, you learn that each step is as important as the next when it comes to creating content. Out of the many topics that were covered, there were a few that I found interesting.

First, I didn’t realize that Content Strategist was a specific role you could play in your career. When thinking about websites for companies and how they were created, I always thought they were brought together by Web or Graphic Designers. Being able to understand that there is a specific career that can be narrowed down to strategizing and creating content for companies is helpful to know when I’m personally thinking about the career path that I would like to take.

Secondly, seeing the steps to creating content in Mind Map form was very helpful. The steps to Content Strategy are Marketing, Information Architecture, Content Management and User Experience. Having the steps organized in such a manner can help to ensure that you complete what is needed to create a successful project.

And the last topic that I thought was interesting was how you discover your target audience. I’ve always thought creating surveys and interviewing users was the best way to see who your target audience should be but I never thought about how you have to start with the stakeholders of the business you are creating content for. It seems so simple and common sense that you would start there but before seeing it laid out in front of me, I had never thought of that.

I really enjoyed this lesson and learning about what exactly goes into Content Strategy. It has made me think deeper into that type of career choice. I love the idea of creating something from scratch for a company and I would really love to learn more about what goes into being a Content Strategist.

Hey James!

Overall, I really enjoyed your Video Portrait about your girlfriend, Danielle. I really enjoyed watching your creativeness when it came to aligning your music with your text that you used. That was a really cool effect that I had never even thought about incorporating into this type of project. What was your thought process behind this type of effect? Did you have a specific reasoning behind doing this instead of using your words? I thought it was a really cool addition and fit well with the type of music you used. Next time, would you consider giving Danielle more time to speak and tell her story? I liked the way you made this into a narrative but it may have been cool to hear her talk about herself or her dog a little bit more. Also, the shot of you and her together was great at the end to tie everything together. Did you use your iPhone for that shot or a camera? I would suggest trying to get a shot that isn’t so shaky but overall, I really enjoyed your video and thought it was put together great! You really thought out of the box and I think that’s what I liked most about it. Awesome job!

Week 4 Synthesis: Curating Through MCBS

This month helped me to fine tune a lot of things when it comes to my projects and how I create them. Being able to curate assets this month really helped assist me in creating cleaner, more professional projects. By putting myself in a position of expressing my thoughts with more than just words, it allowed me to understand the importance of carefully choosing the right assets to go with your story. In this case, we used a lot of visuals this month in class and this helped me to open my creative side more. Having the resources that we were introduced to this month allowed me to explore another side to projects that I had never really thought to explore before this month. Of course, in previous months of this program we were required to use pictures in our projects but this class taught me the reason behind using pictures. I’ve enjoyed opening up to this side of my creativeness.

 When it comes to taking pictures and keeping memories, I can definitely relate to the authors of these articles. I have recently found myself to be more mindful of the pictures that I choose to take ever since my phone alerted me of full memory containing over 6,000 photos. This made me think about what exactly I was taking pictures of and why. It’s funny that these articles were a required read because this had just happened to me within the month. I feel that when you think about what you want to capture and take the time to get a great picture, it brings out the creativeness that you have within yourself. Instead of having an overwhelming number of pictures that you will probably never look at, working on having special moments will help to bring your memories to life in your photographs. I know this advice would be helpful to a lot of people, especially moms that can’t help themselves when taking pictures of their babies!

Week 4 Reflection: RISE Peer Reflection

I really enjoyed your video and can relate to your story and your passion to help people. When deciding on the path I wanted to take, working with others and exploring ways to help the community has always been a priority for me. When making your choice of degree and school, what made you choose Full Sail University? I definitely think you made the right choice. Full Sail is all about creativity and it really seems like you have talent! The way you created your video and the editing you did was really great. I would suggest to possibly use a different video than the one you used at the beginning with the partners discussing a project over the computer but other than that, I only noticed great things. I was really impressed by your tone how you presented your project. I would just keep in mind that when using photographs, be mindful of the sources watermark that is on the photo. Overall I really enjoyed your video and look forward to seeing what you come up with in future classes!

WK3 Project: Digital Storytelling with Mobile Apps Challenge

During this project, it was difficult for us to come together as a team to utilize a mobile app for communicating. It seemed that email worked well for us all due to our scheduling conflicts. I felt that the email communication went well, we were able to discuss our ideas and come together as a group. I would have liked to have more group discussion so I know now that this is a very important aspect of any group project.

My team and I decided to make a video about our passions. We wanted to create something to go with the “human connection” idea that we have been studying about and thought, no better way than to show what we are truly passionate about. We each made our video with narrative and pictures and then I was able to edit the files into one video. I also made sure to add background music to add to the video. I wasn’t really surprised by anything with this challenge, I just learned a lot about what to expect and the work that goes into a group project like this. I’m most proud of the fact that I was able to edit this video and make it work! My editing skills aren’t that great but the more and more I practice the better I get which is nice to see. This project was a challenge for me when it came to communicating with my group. Like I stated about though, I now know how extremely important this is to have a successful video.
