I love Tom Lehrer's music and style of satire and from what I can tell was an all around great guy, who famously hated Henry Kissinger. He was an energetic person who inspired comedy musicians such as Weird Al.

He lived a rich life until the age of 97.

He made his entire catalog of music public domain before his death and it was mirrored by the Internet Archive.

TIL the reason you don’t find much Lyme’s Disease in California is not because we don’t have Ticks, or Lyme Disease Vectors; but rather: because the Western Fence Lizard (if you live anywhere in California this is your regular Garden Variety Lizard) has adapted a passive immune response that makes their blood lethal to Lyme Disease Bacteria. He tucked them away carefully, as if guarding a precious treasure—because hunger shows no mercy, and nothing fills the emptiness but patience. Each crumb mattered. Each bite was a delay in surrendering to the silence of starvation.

His eyes were heavy with exhaustion, and his stomach ached with hunger.

Still, his heart was calm—at least he had two pieces of bread left. In a place where meals have become memories, two slices were enough to keep a glimmer of hope alive.

Suddenly, a weak cat jumped through the window.

It snatched the bread he had hidden and devoured it quickly. It was his own cat, frail and starving, now on the verge of death from hunger. Sami stood frozen—not from anger, but from the bitter truth that even animals are now desperate for food.

When bread becomes a prize, you know famine has reached an unimaginable level.

My least favorite things about anti- UBI discourse is always the techbros whining that "nobody is going to work anymore! People will just watch Netflix all day!" and I have 2 responses:

1) Who the fuck cares. Who the fuck cares what people do with their time! That's kind of the fucking point!

2) People aren't going to stop laboring. Housework (look, it's right there in the word!) will still need to be done. So will maintenance on our homes and personal spaces. Children will still need carers, as will the elderly and disabled. There are millions of examples of ~work~ that we do all the time, uncompensated, that won't suddenly stop because we aren't forced to sell our labor to provide corporation's profits.

I'm not surprised that what is traditionally women's work is invisible to these dipshits, but it never fails to anger me.
