So, I've been rereading the hobbit for the first time in over a decade, and it got me thinking about the hobbit movies.
Like, obviously it's not controversial to say that they're bad. And the reasons people usually give are like, the unnecessary romantic subplot (which is bad of course).
But I feel like I didn't see anyone talking about is that the hobbit movies were doomed from the start. Why? Because they shouldn't have been movies. And especially not live action ones at that.
It's obvious they wanted a big blockbuster fantasy epic like the lord of the rings movies, but that's not what the hobbit is. The hobbit is a cozy fantasy storybook for children. It's small in it's scope (you know, like a hobbit). Sure, there's plenty of danger and peril, but nothing like the large scale battles in lotr.
All this to say is that I truly believe the only way to properly adapt the hobbit is as a children's cartoon with 20 to 25 episodes which are all 12 minutes long.

fanfic writers are so fucking awesome man. they write novel length fics that are sometimes even better than some published bestselling books written by professional writers. like fanfic writers are professional writers to me and they gift us their masterpieces for free. they give us something we can look forward to after a long day. something from which we can seek comfort when life is hard. something that can be our own little getaway. in a world of capitalism, despite everything, they give us all of these for free. like holy fuck. shout out to every fanfic writer. I wish all fanfic writers a very ‘I love you with all my heart and soul. I thank you from the bottom of my heart’

Made this a while back for a Xiaolin Showdown Fan Zine and then forgot to ever post it after the zine had finished selling. I was really happy with how this came out, too.

I think most people subconciously treat "It's not you, it's about how I'm built" as an easier form of rejection. It sounds less like "I'm not attracted to you" but more like "I can't be attracted to you" - we go into the "It's not you it's me" category, which is just... less harsh for most ig?
You gotta remember that rejections are a heavy emotional burden on both parties, since it usualy includes people that have some type of bond and past, attraction included or not.
It's same as when I said "I'm a lesbian" instead of "I don't feel the same about you" to a guy years ago. People say "I'm gay, lesbian, aromantic" as a form of rejection all the time. I personaly believe it's pointless to police how people express that rejection, especially since it's already heavily emotionally charged subject.
spent some time in r/aromantic today and it's got me thinking that we have got to stop saying, "sorry, i'm aromantic i don't/can't feel that way about you" in response to confessions. number one bc what are you sorry for, but number two bc why do we have to use orientation to get out of an obligation to feel a certain way about somebody? ultimately i think behaving as though we need to justify not being attracted to someone only ends up reinforcing the idea that we need to justify not being attracted to anyone
