the perks of being a wallflower

One of my favourite lines in “the perks of being a wallflower” is when charlie says: 

“I just think its bad when a boy looks at a girl and thinks that the way he sees the girl is better than the girl actually is”

When i first read this i couldn’t quite figure out what he was trying to say. I read the same sentence over and over again and the more i read it the more i got this weird yet familiar feeling. I realised that this “phenomenon” charlie is referring to is so common and normalised nowadays that noone even detects it anymore. It’s just that when you love someone you try in every way possible to make them aware of every single ounce of their worth, you don’t do them a favour by dating them. You are in a relationship because you want to make as many memories as possible with them and share your deepest thoughts and secrets. You are dating them because you feel comfort around them and they support you in every decision you make so please stop underestimating their worth. The list goes on and on so bestie if you are with someone who doesn’t appreciate you make yourself a favour and leave them <33
