If there's one thing Adrien is secure in, after everything he's been through, it's his relationship with Marinette.

After years of teetering on the edge of a knife, knowing that one wrong move or one misspoken word is the thing that decides whether his father deems him worthy of his attention-- or god forbid his LOVE-- it must be nice to know that there's at least one person that won't go away, no matter what he does.

Marinette, above all, has always cared deeply about Adrien's happiness. Sure, he doesn't know about Hawkmoth. Or the scarf he got for his birthday. But Marinette was one of the few people that noticed he was sad about leaving in the season 4 finale. She was the person he confided in about how unhappy he was. Not Nino, not Kagami. It was Marinette.

And he didn't just tell her he didn't want to go. He told her other things too, things he's likely been bottling up for months, or even years. He told her he hates modeling. He hates being gawked at by people that don't know him. A fact that not even the audience were aware of by this point.

He considered it a risk to tell her this, possibly because he didn't want her to see that not-so-perfect side of him. But she tells him she understands, and she listens to what he has to say. Most importantly though, she doesn't devalue his feelings, she doesn't try to convince him the trip could be fun. Marinette being Marinette, she instead pivots the conversation to be about how he can get out of leaving. Marinette shows him, for possibly the first time, that his feelings aren't secondary to everyone else's expectations, and I really think that had a deep effect on him.

Since then, they've been through a lot to stay together. Secret dates, online dates, his father's disapproval, and Marinette's own relationship trauma. And you can bet Marinette was there for him after his father died, no doubt about it. They've gone through it all, and they're stronger than ever.

This girl cares deeply for him, and he knows that isn't going to change if he lets his smile slip, or if he tells her no. Because Marinette was there when he was perfect, but she was also there when he wasn't, and she still looks at him with that adoring smile all the same.

Happy Valentine's Day, Adrinette. You were worth waiting for. ❤️

When you revisit the scene in Revolution where Adrien and Marinette are holding hands, you’ll notice that Adrien’s hand is placed on top of Marinette’s, which holds a lot of significance. Adrien perceives himself as Marinette’s protector.

In that moment, a realization hit them both - the masks they wore didn’t matter. What truly mattered was their sense of belonging together.

The scene in the movie where Adrien and Marinette finally reveal to each other their secret identities as Ladybug and Chat Noir was simply beautiful.
