a new song!
this post is later than i wanted it to be, but i'm posting it anyway :). i have a new song called "second guessing" that's out now on all streaming platforms! here's a handy link.
second guessing is the first single off my new EP (called Sweet Is The Lore (Pt. 1)), which will be released on july 3. second guessing is very much about the process of coming back to oneself through experiencing nature, and i hope it sparks a little calm joy in your day, wherever you are.

checking in with a few updates!
1. life updates
i’m writing this from LAX, where i’m currently waiting for a red-eye back to nyc. why, you ask? well! i got married a few weeks ago, and my wife (!!) and i are just finishing up a honeymoon to japan :). the wedding was incredible — beautiful, filled with people we love, intentional at every step. it was truly a dream.
the honeymoon was also a dream. it was my first time in japan, and as someone of japanese descent (my mom is third-generation japanese-american), i was super eager to visit this magical place of my familial origin. we did and saw a lot — in tokyo, kyoto, nara, and hiroshima — but did a decent job balancing all the sightseeing with time for rest and relaxation. i’m sad the trip is over, but i’m happy to get back to normal life and hug my dog.
2. music updates
i’m happy to report that i’ve sent off the mixes for my upcoming EP to be mastered! i’ve been working on these tracks for months and months, and i’m very ready to share them with the world.
the theme of this project has always been captured by a mantra (of sorts) that i’ve had in mind since i started working on it: “songs for recovering cynics.” for me, these songs represent a renewed hope in life itself, a reconnection with nature and the wider world, and a feeling that even among the bad stuff, the universe offers something to believe in, something beautiful to hold near.
as a jaded millennial, this is honestly a pretty big shift in perspective for me. but, for many reasons, i feel supported enough in my life to open myself to hope — hope for me, for the people i love, for the world.
i’ll leave you on that positive note. hope you found a reason to smile extra hard today.

casual check-in, a million years since my last post :). life keeps life-ing, and i've been busy as heck -- between working my day job (i work at spotify, and i love it), recording my next music project, and planning a wedding (!!) and honeymoon (!!!), i've barely had any time to think, let alone keep up with this blog. c'est la vie!
i do have an update, though! i am happy to announce i have a new website: moonloft.io is now my home on the web. i've been juggling a few separate websites for a while now, and it dawned on me that there's really no reason to do so. as i explain on the new home page, moonloft.io is an attempt to gather my work in a central place, and to create better context about what i do and why than is generally possible (imo) on social media. i plan to build out the website over time with more of my writing, photos, music, design projects, and whatever other creative stuff festers in my brain until i let it out.
that said, the blog will continue to live here on tumblr for a variety of reasons (not least of which is that i actually like tumblr). and while i intend to post more regularly here, i really can't make any promises :).
i hope there's a lot of sunshine in your corner of the universe.

an introduction
hi :) and welcome to my blog. my name is kellyn, and i’m a 30-something living in nyc. i have lots of hobbies and interests, but music is the greatest among them (i call it my nights and weekends gig). i write songs and record them in my little bedroom studio and put them out in the world. sometimes i play shows, but it’s been a while. i intend to use this blog to chronicle my life in nyc, my music-making process, and all the little moments of inspiration that make life beautiful.
as an intro to me, here is the song “Foxes” off my last EP, Foxes.
it’s the end of thanksgiving weekend in the united states, and there are a million things to be grateful for, but today, a few stick out: my partner, my dog, our cozy (and sometimes hectic af) life in nyc. the view of greenpoint and beyond from our balcony, the sun rising over the wastewater plant in the morning, the way it reflects off the midtown skyscrapers in the evening (or, this time of year, late afternoon). my family and friends in nyc, dc, atlanta, south africa, everywhere.

music that changed my life this week
Hayden Pedigo, “Elsewhere” – i watched Hayden Pedigo’s NPR Tiny Desk performance last week and was totally blown away. while i did a proper deep dive into his whole catalog (wow, so much beauty there), Elsewhere stuck in my brain something fierce, and i’ve had it on repeat for days.
Little Dragon, “Feather” (live) – i’ve been listening to Little Dragon for what feels like forever. definitely more than ten years, but maybe not quite fifteen. it’s hard to say. in any event, their live shows are always fantastic, and i fell down a bit of a youtube rabbit hole watching some of their live performances. this one in particular, a live stream concert from covid times, enchanted me, and i’ve been jamming out to this version of Feather, a perennial favorite.
that’s all for today. sending a little love and peace to your corner of the universe.
