Project Name:
Grade 11 Students level of Satisfaction on the Prices and Products of the Canteen of Colegio De San Jose
I. Introduction
In recent years, there has been growing concern among students at Colegio de San Jose regarding the relationship between the prices of food products and the satisfaction they derive from these offerings in the school canteen. A major concern brought up by most of student’ some teacher’s is the apparent discrepancy in prices and portion sizes, which makes them dissatisfied with their overall experience. The impact of this mismatch on students' opinions of the canteen services' worth and level of satisfaction is demonstrated in this concept paper.
II. Statement of the Problem
This study aims to identify the underlying factors that contribute to students' dissatisfaction by focusing on customer satisfaction. It aims to offer perceptions into how adjustments to costs and serving sizes can enhance the overall canteen dining experience for students. This study will be crucial for understanding student preferences and for providing direction for future canteen service improvements.
Research Questions
How do students’ expectations of food quality and pricing align with the actual offerings in the canteen?
To what extent does the disproportion between food portions and prices affect students' overall satisfaction with the canteen services?
How do the prices of food products in the Colegio de San Jose canteen influence student satisfaction?
III. Literature Review
According to the study by Galabo (2019), student satisfaction with canteen services is strongly linked to the affordability and quality of products. The research highlights that a well-priced product offering, especially in school canteens, can significantly improve customer satisfaction. This is further supported by the findings on the importance of service quality in canteens, which is crucial in determining overall satisfaction levels.
Similarly, research conducted by Sagarino et al. (2024) at the University of the Immaculate Conception found that while students generally express satisfaction with their canteen's services, certain aspects such as food variety, prices, and the attentiveness of the staff require
improvement. The study shows that these factors play a vital role in how students perceive the value of canteen services, affecting their overall satisfaction.
The study of Labay et al. (2015) similarly concluded that while students were satisfied with various aspects of canteen services, such as cleanliness and customer service, their satisfaction with the pricing of products and the portion sizes was considerably lower. This finding points to the need for canteens to better align their pricing strategies with student expectations.
Additionally, Hom et al. (2017) emphasized that satisfaction is not only a result of quality service but also of emotional responses to the fulfillment of needs. In the context of canteens, this means that if students feel that their needs for affordable, high-quality food are unmet, their overall satisfaction declines, regardless of other service factors.
Lastly, the study by Elliott and Shin (2002) also noted that student satisfaction is a product of the alignment between expectations and perceived outcomes. This means that when students expect affordable prices and are met with higher costs, dissatisfaction can arise, even if other aspects of the service meet expectations.
IV. Research Design and Methods
This study examines the relationship between food portions, canteen prices, and student satisfaction at Colegio de San Jose using a quantitative, correlational research design. To ensure diverse representation, a survey will be given to 10 students in various sections who make up a stratified random sample. Using a Likert based questions, the structured questionnaire will collect information on customer satisfaction, demographics, and opinions of the price-product balance. In order to ascertain the degree to which prices, portions, and satisfaction are related to one another, data will be analyzed using descriptive statistics and Pearson's correlation. This analysis will provide valuable information for prospective canteen service improvements.
