old post but i feel this needs to be said about porn art as well. porn art is still communication, even if the message is largely always the same (usually "wouldn't it be hot if..."), there was still someone who took the time to convey that message into an art piece.

erotic art isn't just porn for the sake of porn. it's a way to connect to fantasy, which is largely a human muscle that if not worked hard enough, weakens into a cynical reflex. erotic fantasy/roleplay has a reality in art, and to discredit it on the basis that it's erotic does a disservice to the people who took the time to make it.

sure, porn art isn't always that serious, but that's the point of it. you sometimes have to look at the nonserious to be able to appreciate the serious, or even the physical world around you. your ability to accept the nonserious is your muscle for imagination.

i'm not saying you have to look at porn art or you have to read erotica, i'm just saying that this is basically what sex-positive and kink-positive people mean when they say: have more weirdos and freaks in your life.

and, as an added bonus, many of those weirdos and freaks are also creatives. and at the very least supporting their work, even if you do not fit its specific niche, is the kindest thing you can do for them as a creative.

no but really, like 

i know that some folks love telling creative people that “you should be doing it for fun because you love it not for the compliments” but creative people thrive on feedback whether it’s critical or just complimentary

so when i write fanfiction and don’t get any actual feedback i feel like i spent all that time and energy doing it for nothing because i’m not getting feedback from the people i wrote it for 

doing something you’re proud of and then presenting it to the sound of utter silence is like the worst feeling on earth
