Last of us x reader chapter four - Doomcoming part 2

Summary: As third month rolls in and nearing the fourth month your patrol outside of Jackson went sideways but your homecoming took a turn for the worst

Warning: mentions of blood and violence

Note: sorry this took longer to put out, so you know when you have an idea for something and the moment your about to write it down and it just disappears so that’s what happened to me so that's why this chapter took awhile to be made

The third month had rolled in quick, you had been going out on a lot of patrols, Maria was weary of letting you since what happened with you last month

But Tommy had agreed to accompany you on the patrols but it felt more like he was your keeper and you were some feral animal being tamed, you had tried to shake Tommy off and tried to find Joel on the first few weeks but Tommy always caught on before that even happened

So you gave up trying and took up hunting food and scavenging for items in buildings or abandoned camps and cabins, you had found quite a lot of useful items and brought them back to Jackson

When you did go on patrols, you only carried a crossbow and a knife, you believed if you fired a gun it would scare away any prey and it would alert any infected or raiders to your position

But each patrol you went on something felt different, you had noticed you were reverting back to your way of surviving before you had reunited with Tommy, Tess and Joel

Like you would walk or crawl on your hands and feet like Gollum when you were hunting or scavenging and you also started to revert back to your lost boy fashion, some people in Jackson thought this was strange but didn't question it

but at night and sometimes in the day you start feeling different like you were becoming a feral animal, it felt like a switch in the back of your mind would just turn on without you being were of it

So as you neared the fourth month, you ponder to yourself if you should stay out in the wilderness but stay close by cause you felt nothing tied you to Jackson except for the house, yes you had Tommy and Maria but they weren't what you needed, what you needed was …..

A sudden clash in the air startled you as it brought you back to reality, as looked around you remember you were far outside of Jackson with Tommy as a storm had appeared out of nowhere as you's took shelter in a cabin but at the same time the sun was setting as you looked at Tommy with worried eyes

"Tommy I think you should take the bedroom tonight" Tommy looked at you then glanced at the window to see the sun setting then back to you "no it'll be okay, we'll be fine plus I'll be getting dinner ready before that happens" "do you want to test that theory"

"Y/N why do you want me to take the bedroom", you looked at Tommy with unsure eyes "I don't know, I just have this feeling like something is about to happen tonight so that's why I want you to take the bedroom and I don't think Maria would be too happy with me if you return home injured"

Tommy started to think to himself and understand what you were on about but as he looked around the room to notice there were a couple of sharp objects scattered around the room and that's when Tommy decided

"okay Y/N I've decided that you will take the bedroom and I'll stay out here", "are you sure Tommy, that sofa doesn't look comfortable what if your back gave out during the night" "Y/N did you just call me old" "maybe" you let out chuckle before retreating to the bedroom, Tommy watches you retreat to the bedroom he was stunned by hearing your chuckle then smiled himself and shook his head

As the sun set and night had begun, Tommy had just finished making dinner and he called out your name to get something to eat but there was no answer

Tommy got up from the sofa and walked over to the bedroom door he knocked first to hear if there were any signs of life, when there was no answer, he then tried to open the door that's when he noticed it was locked

"Y/N did you lock the door" still no answer "come on Y/N open the door so I can give you some food, you've been starving all day, you got to eat something" that's when he heard it the faint sound of growling

Tommy took his hand off the door handle for a second, he couldn't believe what he was hearing, he thought he was going to hear you do your mimicking of a clicker not animalistic one

But as he placed his hand on the door handle again and was about to give the door a shove, a clash of thunder erupted from outside as it scared him enough that he rushed to look out the window to see that the wind had picked up along with the rain, that's when another clash of thunder happened but Tommy realised it wasn't thunder but it was a window being smashed

Tommy looked around the room to check where the shattered glass was but there was nothing, except for the bedroom that you were in

"Y/N!!!!, Y/N ANSWER ME, I NEED TO KNOW IF YOUR OKAY" once again there was no answer so Tommy walked up to the bedroom door and grabbed the handle and prayed you don't attack him as he gave the door a hard shove with his shoulder

The door broke open as Tommy stumbled into the room to find the bed was destroyed like the bed sheets, duvet and pillows were torn apart but what caught his eye more was the howling of the wind outside

He saw the window that was smashed, only problem was it wasn't smashed inwards as there was no glass on the floor, it was smashed outward and that's when it dawned on him

You had smashed the window and fled through it into the stormy night and Tommy felt like he couldn't breathe as the howling wind cut through the cabin, he knew he had to get out and look for you because this was something new, you had never done this before

Before Tommy left the bedroom he checked around it first to see if you left anything behind, he found your crossbow but not your knife but while he was looking he noticed on the window sill there was blood and all Tommy thought was in that moment was "Maria is going to kill me"

So when it became morning and the storm had passed Tommy left the cabin to go find you wherever you are as he yells out your name

For you, you had woken up very tired and achy as you crawl out of where you sleeping and sat up but as you opened your eyes you noticed you were in the forest and not the cabin but it only got weirder as you could taste cooper in your mouth which alerted you

But as you stood up and look around that's when you noticed your clothes and hair were soaked in blood, your mind became alert with worry thinking you had hurt Tommy but when you looked around to see no Tommy, you were thankful

But you were concerned in how you became bloody in the first place so as you turned around, your foot hit something that nearly made you fall over, so as you looked down to see a very large stag laying dead in front of you made you wide eyed

You looked over the stags body to notice it's chest to it's stomach had been cut open but that's what made you realise that you had done this, you tauntaun a stag during the night

Before you could think of anything, a twig snapped in the distance it was very close you as you ducked behind the stag and looked out for the person or creature that made the noise

That's when you spotted two lone male raiders walking in the forest one had a gun, the other had a bat, they looked like they were hunting for something

They stopped to talk to each other sadly they were to far away to hear what they were saying but that's when you heard a faint yell in the distance

It was Tommy yelling for you but the two raiders also heard him yelling and both decided to head to his position, you decided to follow them but from a far so attack then before they reach Tommy

They eventually stopped as they spotted Tommy from a far so did you, one of raiders spoke to their partner "Ok remember what I taught you, I'll distract him and all you have to do is batter him on the back of his head"

You watched as they explained their plan out loud and all you could think was you needed to get Tommy's attention but without getting caught so you cupped your hands around your nose and mouth and let out a monstrous howl

This spooked the two raiders as they looked around frantically and for Tommy he heard it too but instead of leaving, he decided to follow the noise instead

You watched as the raiders split from each other to look for noise that's when you took the opportunity to ponce

The raider with the gun was looking around until he heard running in his direction but as he turned around that's when you ponced and tackled him to the ground

But his gun went off alerting his partner and Tommy, the both of you went tumbling a bit down hill a bit until he was straddling you in the tussle

You could hear his partner catching up and in that moment he started to talk to you "what did you think was going to happen darling, you've lost"

He leaned into you and started to sniff you as you turned your head to get him away for him to only let out a chuckle

As his partner grew closer, he turned his head to call out to him "we're over hea….." In this moment you took out your knife and stabbed it into the side of his neck

As the blood pooled out of his neck onto your face you closed your eyes in this moment, the now dead raider slummed down on top of you as his partner appeared a few steps away

"Hey are you good man what was that" he was met with no answer except for his partners body being pushed to the side as you started to stand up and look at him

You made eye contact with the dead raider partner and you could tell he was scared shitless he didn't know what to do

You tilted your head and licked your lips as you stared out the raider "this is part where you run"

The raider dropped his bat and went off running as you gave him a running start so when he was slightly far out is when you gave chase

You started running after him on hands and feet, the raider turned his head to see you gaining on him "what the hell" as you gained on him

He wasn't looking where he was going, he tripped and fell down a hill, the moment he reached the bottom was impaled a piece of wood and was bleeding out

You stopped at the top of the hill out of breath but you watched the raider at the bottom of hill struggle then eventually passing out from blood loss

You hadn't noticed Tommy was also at the bottom of the hill looking at you with shocked wide eyes

Tommy was so happy that he found you but he was concerned as he saw your hair, face and clothes were covered in blood

"Y/N" Tommy yelled your name as you looked in his direction with joy and happiness, you started to climb down the hill slowly and forgetting about the raider that was also at the bottom of the hill dead

As you reached the bottom you jumped into Tommy's arms and hugged him not caring that your clothes were staining his

"Tommy I'm so sorry you came out here because of me, I would have eventually returned back to the cabin" Tommy gently grabbed your shoulders and looked at your face

You weren't crying at all, you just looked exhausted "Y/N what happened last night and why are you covered in blood"

You looked away from Tommy "Tommy what happened last night is a blur but I can tell you how I got bloody, I may have tauntaun a stag"

Tommy looked at you with bewilderment "and for your face, why does it look fresh" you chewed the inside of your lip as you looked Tommy dead in the eye "I killed a raider so the blood that's on my face belongs to him and his partner that is over there on the ground"

Tommy looked at the raiders body then back at you, he wanted to ask how but he noticed you were just really exhausted

"Hey how about we head back ho…" "ow" Tommy looked at you as you have your eyes squeezed shut for second as you pull your right glove off to see a small piece of wood sticking out of your hand

"Hey you okay that looks painful" "It is" you let out a hiss as Tommy gently looked at your hand "wait how did you manage to get wood in your hand in the first place" you wouldn't meet Tommy's eyes "i don't know, I must of got it when I tackled the first raider"

Tommy looked at you knowing you weren't telling the truth "hm ok well I'm going to remove the piece of wood, it might sting a bit" as Tommy removed the wood, you let out a hiss and yanked your hand away, there was a small trickle of blood forming from where the wood was

Tommy was about to wrap some cloth around your hand but he watched as you started to lick your wound clean and bleeding stopped

You looked at Tommy with an awkward smile "so I'm guessing now the hunt patrol is over now it's time to head back to Jackson now"

Tommy looked at you and nodded as you's started to walk away from the hill and headed back towards the cabin to collect the rest of your equipment after doing that you's set off back to Jackson

Tommy had handed you your crossbow again as you two walked, it was silent until Tommy spoke up

"Hey Y/N do you ever think about it" you tilt you head in confusion "about what Tommy" "have you ever thought what if Joel returned what would you do"

You stopped for a second but started to walk again "I haven't thought of it much, I think I want to give him hell but Sarah wants me to go easy on him so I'll try my best but if they did return, I don't know what version of me they're going to meet"

Tommy looked at you with pained eyes when you mentioned Sarah "well if Joel does return I'll be giving a good old punch to the face but I'll also explain to them the new rules"

You let out a heartful laugh "I would pay to watch that" Tommy started to laugh too

As you neared Jackson it was already the afternoon but before you reached the gates, you managed to hunt four rabbits and a young buck, you managed to find a thick piece of wood and tie the young buck to it so it would be easier to carry

As you and Tommy watched the gates, the guard's standing at the gate looked at you with concern when they seen you cover head to toe in dried blood and Tommy who only had patches of blood on him

Tommy handed the young buck to the guards, as you two started to head back to your homes, you had noticed there was a lot more people out today

You could hear hushed whispers and finger pointing at you, you tried your best to ignore it but Tommy noticed as you were silently snarling at them

"Well this is me, I'll try and get these rabbits dressed then made into rabbit stew, I'll bring some over to you and Maria since it's still light outside" "thanks Y/N, Maria will appreciate that, I'll see you in a bit"

You waved Tommy off as you headed inside but the moment you entered the house the moment you placed your crossbow on the kitchen chair, you felt like someone walked over your grave, you tried your best to shrug it off as you tended to the rabbits

The moment you had finished dressing the rabbits and placed them in the stew you hadn't realised the sun had set that's when you heard it, the creaking on the floor boards

As for Tommy he slowly returned home as he entered his household he too could feel something was off, "hey Maria, I'm home sorry we were gone for a long time also Y/N may need some sti….."

Tommy stopped in the middle of the front room as he stared into the kitchen as he saw his brother Joel standing there, Tommy was like a deer in headlights but he was brought out of his frozen stance by a voice

"Hey Tommy" Tommy clenched his fist ready to punch Joel but stopped when Maria while holding their child touched his shoulder

"Tommy I know you want to punch him but now isn't a good time, you look exhausted and why is there blood on clothes"

Tommy looked down at Maria with a small smile before turning his attention back to Joel "when did you return"

Joel rubbed the back of his neck while looking at Tommy and Maria "We uh just got back today, so I came over here to talk to Maria and hopefully get caught up on things but I see you now have a kid…. So uh congratulations, Y/N must have been overjoyed when they saw them"

Tommy and Maria looked at each other then back at Joel "Y/N hasn't met Oisín yet" "what why not" Tommy opened his mouth to speak but nothing came out so Maria spoke instead "they've just been….. busy"

As the three of them spoke to each other, Tommy realised the sun had set and you hadn't shown up, Tommy furrowed his eyebrows while looking outside

"Tommy, are you okay" "they should have been here by now, they were going to give us some rabbit stew but the sun has set" "maybe they're just tired and forgot" "maybe, well Joel we better get you and Ellie set up in the front room tonight, so just call her down and…."

"Ellie's not here" "What do you mean not here, where the hell is she Joel" "she's at the house" Maria went wide eyed when Joel mentioned the house as she looked between Joel and Tommy and prayed quietly to herself hoping it wasn't your house "which house Joel" "Our house the one you gave us when we first arrived here"

Maria went to tell Tommy he had to get Ellie out of there but when she turned to tell him, he was already out the door before she could say anything

Joel he has never seen Tommy move so fast before, it was like he was told a house was on fire or someone was going to get killed

Back at the house Ellie had just woken up, she realised it was dark as she took a deep breath in, she could smell food from downstairs, so she decided to go get some, thinking it was Joel that made it

When Ellie descend the stairs, she noticed the staircase was creaking and tried to make less noise, when she reached the bottom Ellie noticed none of the lights were on the only source of light was coming from outside

Ellie entered the kitchen looking for the food only to find a small bowl of stew but amongst to Ellie the bowl of stew was left there as bait because the moment she placed her hand on the bowl

Tapping could be heard somewhere in the house, Ellie looked around thinking it must of been a mouse or something so she decided to turn her attention back to the bowl

She tried to take a spoonful of the stew when the tapping happened again along with the sound of something being scraped across something but this it was coming from within the kitchen

This scared Ellie as she dropped the spoon into the bowl as she looked around to see where the noise was coming from, that's when she locked eyes with you

You had been crouching in an open cupboard of the kitchen watching Ellie as for all she could see was a humanoid somewhat shadow figure with hair stuck to their face and then wearing odd looking bladed claw gloves

"Um hello what the hell are you doing in my house" you tilted your head to the side as you opened your mouth for the clicker noise to come out

Ellie froze on the spot when she heard it but soon she was unfrozen when she heard someone yell out her name from outside as Ellie turned to look to see who it was

When she heard the front door open, she caught a glimpse of who it was, the moment Tommy opened the front door and saw Ellie standing in the kitchen with her head turned looking at him

Tommy noticed you had appeared out of the cupboard and now was standing a few inches In front of Ellie

Ellie turned to look to face you but was shocked to see you standing In front of her but now she got a good look at you with your face still covered in dried blood, you had brought one finger of the bladed claw glove onto Ellie's face to move a piece of hair out of the way, Ellie could feel the blade as it gently glide her skin but Ellie recognised it was you

"Y/N?" You looked Ellie dead in the eye, as you dropped your hand away when she said your name but you responded to her by letting out a terrifying howl scream to which Ellie grabbed the small bowl of stew and threw the contents in your face to which you hissed

Ellie turned around to make a break for the door where she saw Tommy making the hand motion to hurry so as Ellie was nearly out the door into Tommy's arms

She was yanked back into the house by you, you had grabbed her by the collar of her clothes making her fall to the ground while you had shut the door not caring Tommy was there

Ellie looked up at you as you crouched down to examine her on hands and feet while you hunched your back, you were about to sniff Ellie when you realised who the stranger was In front of you was "Elli…" sadly you were hit in the side of the head with the small bowl that had the stew in it

You let anguish scream as you placed your hands to your head and doubled over away from Ellie, Ellie used this time to escape as she opened the door Tommy grabbed her and closed the door

Ellie cried out in Tommy's arms as Tommy cradled Ellie not saying anything "T-t-tommy, i-is Y/N infected" "no no their not" "what happened to them" Tommy looked Ellie in the eye and let out a deep sigh "do you remember when you and Joel left here back in December and I said it's only going to get worse"

Ellie nodded her head then it clicked this was your worst "all I can tell you Ellie is Y/N didn't want you to see this side of them and if we had known you here before the sun went down this could all have been avoided"

Tommy decided to head back to his house with Ellie but before they left, they both heard tapping coming from a window when they looked, they saw you looking at them with your face pressed up against the window

Tommy saw the fresh blood trickling down your face as you pressed your face on the glass, he turned his head slightly to look at Ellie as she tried to stifle a cry "I didn't mean to hit them that hard" "Ellie your not at fault here and it's ok, I'll bring Maria round tomorrow to get them stitches"

Tommy gave Ellie a small pat on the back, they started to walk away as you kept tapping the window to get their attention but they ignored you the moment they were out of your line of vision "I'm sorry"

Last of us x reader chapter three - Let The Darkness Set Us Free part one

Summary: Y/N tries to manage throughout the months without Joel and Ellie but they start to spiral as well reverts back to their way of living and survival

The first month was the hardest because you couldn't comprehend why Joel left you in Jackson and to be looked after by Tommy and Maria

Tommy and Maria did their best but you kept them at arm's length during the first month

You wouldn't leave the house unless to get fresh air, Tommy and Maria would take turns into delivering food to your house to keep you feed since you weren't going to theirs or the hall

The days started to get worse and worse, you were sleep deprived and waking up at an ungodly hour at different points of the day an night thinking Joel and Ellie have returned only to find out it was just the wind

but one night a thunderstorm decided to hit Jackson and Maria came to check up on you since you hadn't eaten any of the food that was left outside the door and to see if you'd spend the night at their house for comfort

But when She entered the household and noticed how eerily quiet it was "Y/N it's Maria I've come to see if you're okay and...." Maria thought she heard a noise upstairs

As she placed one foot on the staircase she didn't notice you were right behind her, suddenly she felt a breath on the back of her neck but when she turned around there was nothing there

Maria decided not to climb the stairs as she took her foot off the staircase and stood in the front room, she noticed something at the corner of her eye, a shadow like silhouette that was a shape of a person standing on the kitchen table

Maria stared in shock and panic, she was like a deer in headlights, she didn't know what to do but then there was a flash of light from outside shone through the window to show who was the silhouette on the table

Maria gasped like she was holding her breath and felt relieved that it was only you "Jesus Y/N you could have given me a heart attack"

Maria noticed you hadn't moved an inch but she did notice her mind screaming at her to run and get out of the house "C-come one Y/N get off the table you could hurt yourself"

you looked at Maria saying nothing but due to the darkness and the only source of light was coming through the kitchen window you had an emotionless face as you tilted your head to the right

You started to crouch down on the table placing one of your hands In front of you

Maria watched with bewilderment as she didn't know what was going to happen next but she noticed you had opened your mouth to speak but the sound that came out of your mouth was the sound of a clicker

Maria opened her own mouth to scream but nothing came out but suddenly something fell over right next to her as she turned her head to the noise

But when she turned back to look at the kitchen table you were gone but you were still somewhere in the house just lurking about watching Maria from the shadows

A clash of lighting shone through the windows again showing where you were, Maria locked eyes with you and noticed you were on the ground crouching down looking you were about to pounce

"Y/N what are you...." Maria didn't get to finish her sentence because you started to scurry towards her with speed and this caused Maria to scream so loud as she bolted upstairs as she looked behind before running into Ellie's room was you climbing the stairs on hands and feet while making clicker sounds

Maria made it into Ellie's room and pushed the chest of drawers to block the door so you wouldn't get in

There was silence for a couple of minutes until a loud thump could be heard against the door, the force made door and the chest of drawers to move slightly

Maria pushed back screaming then a clash of thunder hit but all Maria could hear was you scurrying away like something scared you

"MARIA WHERE ARE YOU" "TOMMY I'M IN ELLIE'S ROOM" there was couple of footsteps on the stairs until a knock was heard against the door

Maria moved the chest of drawers out of the way and opened the door to see Tommy standing and pulled him into a hug and broke down

"Tommy it's Y/N I-i don't know how but they're um" Maria gulped and to catch her breath "they’re infected"

Tommy looked at Maria while hugging her and gave a heavy sigh "no Maria they're not" "what do you mean they're not, they have to be why would those sounds of a clicker come out of their mouth" "that's because they do that"

Maria froze and looked up at Tommy to see if he was lying but he wasn't "what" "sigh, Y/N must have believed that you were a raider and was trying to scare you but luckily you managed to keep yourself safe"

"And how do you know any of this Tommy" "because they did it to me" Maria was stunned in hearing this

"Now come on Maria, we have to get you out of here" Tommy started to guide Maria out of the house as they descended the staircase

Tommy looked up and could see you peeking at them and making hushed clicker sounds

"Ok Y/N we're leaving now, I'll come and check up on you in the morning" Tommy and Maria left the house and went back to theirs

The moment they made it through the door of their household, Maria wanted answers "ok Tommy what the fuck do you mean Y/N has done that to you"

Tommy took a deep breath "okay, when I explained back in December that they had done unimaginable things to survive, that was one of them"

Tommy looked at Maria and decided to explain how his experience went down "so we knew Y/N back before the outbreak and during the outbreak but we lost each other and a couple years later when I was with Joel and Tess on our smuggling runs, it was getting dark and we had found an abandoned building but we didn't realise it occupied

So as Joel and Tess were sleeping, I took first watch and decided to explore the building, that's when I stumbled across Y/N in a dark room with little light, they were crouching on the ground like gollum and they were kind of dressed like a lost boy, I was so overjoyed that I found them but they didn't recognise me, so when I tried to get closer is when I heard the clicker sounds coming out of their mouth

I was stunned by what I was seeing and I didn't know how to react so I pointed my gun at them and that's when they pounced on me, making me fall over and I fired my gun blindly

Thankfully i didn't hit them but i remember them dragging me into the light to look at me, they sniffed me then placed their hands on my face, that's when I saw it, they realised who I was and they clung to me believing I was just a dream, it broke my heart seeing them like that" Tommy dipped his head forward as he breathed in and out

"and I think the worst thing about this situation now is they stopped doing that when they were with Joel and now Joel's gone an I believe their returning back to those times"

Maria cupped his cheeks and slowly moved his head to look at them "oh Tommy, don't you worry we'll get through this together"

the next month came in quick and you were slowly getting acclimated to Jackson, you still only left the house for certain things but nights were still bad

Also a rule was in place that no one enters your house at night only during the day and afternoon

So one morning you had woken up and there was this feeling that you couldn't figure out what was off, so you decided to get a shower then got into clean clothes but the feeling was still there

Until you heard ringing coming from downstairs, you slowly descended the staircase to look for the ringing that's when you found it

A telephone was ringing, you looked at it with confusion but you decided to pick it up anyway

"Hello, is someone there" "yes who is thi..." "oh my god you made it to Jackson" the voice on the other side sounded so familiar

"Um who is this", "it's alright Y/N, it's just been so long since you've heard my voice" "I'm sorry I'm trying to remember" there was silence for a split second

"Maybe this will help, you have to protect Joel and Ellie at any cost" you gasped as your breath became hitched and tears started to form in your eyes "Tess, I've missed you so much", "I know Y/N but I've got to go now", "wait what, c-can't you stay a little longer" "I wish I could but don't you worry, I'll come by tomorrow and we can chat all day long" after that was said the line went dead

The next day rolled around very quickly, you sat near the phone waiting for it to ring, as you bite your nails thinking Tess wasn't going to call you

Until a knock at your front door startled you, when you went to check who it was as you opened the door, you placed your hand up towards your mouth in shock

Tess was standing there with a big smile "hello Y/N I told you I was coming by, did you forget" you didn't respond to Tess instead you just hugged her instead

The next couple of days would go on like this, Tess would come over and you's would talk for hours then Tess would leave before nightfall and cycle would repeat

Tommy and Maria started to notice your demeanour had changed to a happy one but they couldn't figure out why until one day Maria had caught you waving goodbye to someone but she didn't see anyone

Maria was going to go over to talk to you but realised it was getting dark and decided to just head home

The moment Maria got home she called out for Tommy "Tommy are you here", "yup I'm in the kitchen, what's up" "so I just saw Y/N waving someone goodbye like someone was just leaving their house" "oh did see who it was"

Maria shook her head "No I didn't but I also didn't see anyone or any footprints on the porch either"

Tommy looked at Maria with concern "Tommy is this another side of Y/N" Tommy shook his head "no I don't think so I think this is something new, we'll find out more tomorrow"

As tomorrow came you got a knock on your door, thinking it was Tess to realise it was Tommy and Maria

"Oh hey Tess you're a day early... Oh h-h-hi Tommy and Maria, what brings you here today" you stepped away from the door to let them in

Tommy looked at you with worry then changed his expression to a fake smile "we were just coming to check up on you, to see how you were, we had both noticed that you we've been very chipper in the last couple of days and we were just wondering why"

"Oh that's because Tess has been coming over and we've just been talking about different things"

Maria looked at Tommy then at you with a forced smile "Tess sounds like lovely lady, I've only heard bits and pieces from Tommy and I would’ve of loved to meet her"

"She's coming by tomorrow with more guests, if you want to meet her then" "oh no no, it's fine I don't want to intrude especially now hearing there's more guests coming"

The three of you stood silently not saying anything until Tommy spoke up "welp, I think it should be best for me and Maria to get on home so you can get ready for your guests tomorrow"

"Oh yeah sure, it was lovely to see you's too" as Tommy and Maria left your house, you waved goodbye to them

But when Tommy and Maria made it back to theirs, they didn't know what to say to each other and also had to fake and force a smile on their faces when hearing you explain that you've been talking to Tess

"Tommy, Y/N is hallucinating, we have to tell them" "no" "no what do you mean no" "I'm not going to tell Y/N that they're hallucinating their dead friend and probably others" "but Tommy it's not healthy for them" "I know that but I've never seen them this chipper before and the only other time I've seen them this chipper was with..."

Maria noticed how Tommy's expression just dropped "with who Tommy" "with Sarah" Tommy placed his hands on his face and let out deep sigh "if Joel does return we can't tell him" "what, Tommy Joel has the right to know"

"no he doesn't because imagine what would happen if we told him that Y/N was hallucinating Tess and other people as well as Sarah because I can imagine it and it will break Joel and to find out Y/N has been spiralling since he left, so that is why we are not going tell Joel or Y/N, we have to let them work this out for themselves, we can be there for them afterwards and hell if they want to go on patrols after this, we'll let them"

Maria thought to herself knowing what Tommy was saying was right but also wrong so she decided to herself that when Joel returns, she's going to tell him everything

As Tomorrow came around, it was the last day of February, you got up super early to get the house made for tess and the other guests

It's when you heard the knock on the door, you quickly walked over to it and as you opened the door Tess was standing there with the same big grin and the other guests who you quickly realised who they were, Bill, Frank, Henry, Sam and Sarah

It brought tears to your eyes as you were overwhelmed with joy and sadness because the last time you had seen Sarah was the day of the outbreak, you were with her in the car and next minute you weren't

So as you let everyone come into the house because it started to rain which you found a bit odd but shrug it off

"It's so great to see you all again, I've missed all of you's so very much" Sarah smiled at you then spoke for everyone "us too Y/N, now let's all sit down and talk because we don't have much time"

All of you's talked for hours on end as morning started to turn to the afternoon and nearing to nightfall, you started to get a migraine out of nowhere as you placed your hand to your head hoping it’ll ease the pain, you suddenly felt a hand touch your shoulder

You looked over to see Sarah with a small smile "I'm okay" "no your not Y/N" you broke eye contact with Sarah for a second to realise the others were gone

"Sarah where are the others" "they left Y/N" "I didn't get to say goodbye" "it's ok, they knew it was their time to leave and you've already said your goodbyes countless of times"

You gave Sarah a perplexed look "I don't understand" Sarah placed her hand on to your hand and gave it a gentle squeeze

"Y/N what I'm going to tell you it might break you and I'm so sorry" "please don't" "so you're aware I'm not really here or the others" "yes but I didn't want the dream to end" "oh Y/N, you know holding onto ghosts it isn't healthy"

"I know but I was happy even though I was sad knowing I've been hallucinating you's this entire month" "and you know that what's coming out of my mouth is your mind telling you things you want to hear" "yes"

Sarah smiled at you and noticed you were getting sleepy, she directed you to the sofa and got you to lay down but before you dozed off sleep

Sarah spoke one last time "so I'm going to tell you a three things before I go, one do what you do best, your scavenger Y/N and the best damn hunter so go on patrols with Tommy, two if my dad returns I would say give him hell but i think he's been put through the wringer already so try and go easy on him and Three embrace your dark side cause you’ll need

You started to drift off to sleep and your eyes closed, Sarah leaned into your ear and whispered "we will meet again"

Last of us x reader chapter two - I See A Darkness

Summary: Joel and Ellie left Y/N in Jackson but Tommy could sense a darkness was approaching not for Jackson but for you

You had woken up mid-day as you stretched across the sofa and slowly rose from the sofa to waken yourself from sleep

As you rubbed your eyes to get the sleep out of them, you feel something doesn't feel right

As you got to your feet you could really sense something was wrong in the house

So you went to investigate as you ascended the staircase "Joel, Ellie I'm up I'm sorry I slept in again, hello anybody there" as you opened Ellie's door first you noticed her bed was made and her backpack was gone

You feel the sense of panic as you bolted for Joel's room "Joel, Ellie's gone we have to find her" but as you opened Joel's door, it was directly the same as Ellie's

You were stunned in what you were seeing, both their beds were made and backpacks were gone and there was no note

"Maybe they've gone out for patrol or hunting" you didn't realise your heart was thumping so loudly because of the feeling of panic

As you descended the stairs you started to pace around then decided to ask Tommy if he knew where Joel and Ellie were

Over at Tommy's house, Maria was concerned as Tommy held his head in his hand and muttering to himself

"Tommy I think if you talk with Y/N I think they'll understand" Tommy removed his head from his hands to look at Maria with a frown "it's not that simple, I made a promise that Joel wasn't going to leave them" Tommy takes a hard breathe in and out

"Maria do you remember when I told you about Joel and how he did things to survive" "yeah I remember why" "well Y/N also did things to survive but they did unimaginable things to survive"

Maria looked at Tommy with concern "like what Tommy" as Tommy was going to respond a hard but fast knocking could be heard at their front door

Tommy got up from his seat and walked over to see it was you, he closed his eyes for a second and to mentally prepare himself for the conversation

As Tommy opened the door, you gave him a big smile "hey Tommy um this might sound strange but do you by any chance know where Joel and Ellie are cause they're not at the house"

Tommy looked at you but didn't say anything, he just gave the indication to come in, as you walked in you stood in the front room where you noticed the memorial that has Sarah's name on it and another kid Kevin

You guessed quickly that it must be Maria's, as Tommy walked into the front room with you, Maria appeared from the kitchen and walked over to Tommy to give him a comfort pat on his back

You noticed Tommy had been fidgeting with his fingers, you realised he's nervous about something but you say nothing until Maria spoke to you

"It's okay Tommy I'll tell them" "tell me what" "how about we sit down and I'll explain to you"

So you and Maria sat down while Tommy stayed standing up, you looked between Maria and Tommy as you gave them a perplexed look

"So what do you want to explain to me" you gave out a nervous chuckle thinking it might lift the mood it didn't

"Y/N you asked if Tommy knew where Joel and Ellie where, the thing is pet" Maria started to realise why Tommy was going to have a hard time explaining to you

"The thing is what Maria" Maria took in a deep breath and looked you dead in the eyes "they left" "what" "they left this morning, Tommy met them at the stables and he opened up the gates so they could leave"

You were stunned in hearing what Maria said, you could hear a ringing in your ears and your heart thumping so loudly you wanted to make it stop but what made matters worse was being told Tommy knew as you looked at him

He wouldn't meet your gaze and that's when you felt something snap as words or sentences played in your mind like a broken record "he left you, abandoned you, he doesn't care, Tommy lied to you"

You brought your hands up to your face and started to breathe in and out, Maria noticed this and thought to herself and believed you were going to cry and got up from the sofa to grab some tissues from upstairs

Tommy watched Maria leave not noticing you have removed your hands from your face and slowly arose from your chair

When Tommy looked back in your direction, you grabbed him by his coat and shoved him against a wall

"Ugh, what the hell Y/N" "you knew" "I swear to god Y/N I didn't know" Tommy looked at you and could see your whole demeanour had changed and the glint in your eyes burning with rage

"You knew and DIDN'T FUCKING TELL ME" your grip on Tommy's coat tightened as you tugged him forward for a second to only push him back against the wall with some force but it caused some picture frames to fall on the ground

"Ahhh, Y/N you got to stop, I swear to you I didn't know, Joel never mentioned that he was going to leave you, you have got to believe me"

You wanted to believe him, you really did but it felt like your head was underwater and not wanting to come back up for air

You let go of Tommy's coat and stepped off to the side to collect your thoughts and try to calm down

As you started to pace around the spot where you stood, you started to talk to yourself quietly

"Tommy wouldn't lie to us would he" "or he told Joel the truth about us and is trying to cover it up" "Tommy wouldn't do that" "well I think he would since he left us and Joel with no radio contact all those years ago" you placed your hands up to your ears to block out noise "no, I'm not listening"

Tommy watched as your pacing stopped, this caused Tommy to try and reach out to you

"Y/N are you okay sweetheart" you snapped your head to Tommy and flinched with one word came into your head "RUN" to which you did

You bolted out the door back towards your house, all you could hear behind you was Tommy calling out your name

But in the chaos Tommy didn't hear Maria come back down the stairs since she heard the thud and the picture frames falling off the walls as she appeared to see you leaving out the door

Maria came up behind Tommy as he watched you bolting back towards your house "Tommy what happened, why are pictures on the floor"

"Don't worry about it, we had a bit of a spat" Tommy held Maria's hand and kissed her knuckles "but I think we better keep an eye out on them"

Maria looked at Tommy and could see concern and panic written on his face "what's wrong" "I can sense a darkness approaching" Maria furrowed her brow "a darkness where, Jackson"

Tommy shakes his head "no for Y/N"

Last of us x reader chapter one - Tomorrow Is a Long Time

Summary: You started to remember what happened three months prior but the moment you reached Jackson and everything changed

Word Count: 2.4k

Notes: this is my first time doing a Last of Us X Reader story, so sorry if something's are inaccurate to the normal story, also i'm not great in coming up with chapter names so i'm using song titles that I listened to while making them

Edit: I didn't proofread this the first time and once my friend read it out in a Kermit voice, I then realised I needed to fix somethings

It has been three months since Kansas city, Henry and Sam, as the three of you walked near a cabin that looked occupied, Joel and Ellie were about to head inside but before you could you spoke up "hey I'm going to stay out here, I need to clear my head" Joel gave you a nod and Ellie just looked at you for a split second then followed Joel in

you walked off but still in sight of the cabin in case something went down, you found a snow covered stump and sat down

you started to breath in and out trying to recall everything that has happened in the last three months

*flashback*

you were sitting around the table with Joel and Tess trying to figure out how to get a car battery, Tess suggested that they steal back the battery

It was agreed so they left the apartment at night, it was like you were sleepwalking because one minute they was talking to Marlene and agreeing to smuggle a teenager called Ellie out of the Boston quarantine zone to the Massachusetts state house then next moment they watched as Joel started to beat the living shit out of the Fedra guard because he was going to shoot Ellie

When it felt like you had woken up is when the four of you were running from clickers in a very tight spot and noticed Tess was about to be bit by one but you didn't realise you were too late because as you pulled the clicker off her as it faced you instead and launched itself at you but before it could you killed it

Tess grabbed your shoulders calling out your name "Y/N are you okay, are you still with us" your eyes snapped at her as your eyes started to slowly dilate from the adrenaline rush

"Yeah yeah I'm still here, wait" you placed a hand to your head feeling dizzy "how did we get here again" Tess looked at you worried but Tess couldn't say anything because Joel was calling out for Tess and you

you and Tess went to find Joel and Ellie, so now you, Joel, Tess and Ellie reached the state house only problem was they realised it's been compromised

But the matters only got worse when they found out Tess was bit, "it was going to happen sooner or later" Tess looked at Joel then to you

But before she could say anything else a noise could be heard outside, Tess started to knock over petrol drums and grenade boxes

She told Joel to take Ellie and run to which he did but when she looked at you, Tess knew something wasn't right with them she saw a glint in their eyes but not the good kind

"Y/N you're going to have to be strong now but you might fall down that path again you hear me but use it because Joel and Ellie needs you like how you protected us back then with Tommy, me and Joel, you have to protect them at any cost" you looked at Tess as you tilted your head slightly to the right, the glint in your eyes showed for a second as you looked at Tess then nodded but before you left, you kissed Tess's forehead

You made it out of the state house before Tess blew it up, you don't remember much after that because it happened again you ending up in a sleepwalking like state cause you came to Kathleen getting killed by a child clicker and a swarm of infected heading back towards kansas city then like a blink of the eye you were burying Henry and Sam

*End of flashback*

Now here you were waiting on a snow covered stump waiting for Joel and Ellie to come out of the cabin to which they did but you noticed Joel clutching his chest in pain

You started to run over to them "Jesus Joel are you okay, what happened in there you were both gone for hours" Joel looked at you with furrowed eyebrows "it must of felt like that but don't worry it was only a few minutes, also I'm doing okay darling so you don't have nothing worry about"

Joel gave you a small head pat before getting back on his feet and walking towards the river of death, Ellie on the other hand was a bit more concerned for your well being

You's took shelter near a cave-like entrance for the night and you went to sleep first way before Joel or Ellie could say anything to you

Ellie looked over at your sleeping body then back at Joel, "Joel I'm worried about Y/N" Joel turned his head to look at you then back at Ellie "what do you mean"

"Well if you haven't noticed they have been looking like they are in a daze and their eyes have been in a dilated state in two separate incidents" Joel furrowed his eyes at Ellie "what are you on about Ellie"

"Joel how have you not noticed, I heard them gasp when Kathleen was killed and they gasped again when we buried Henry and Sam, it was like they didn't realise what was happening around them also back at bill and franks they showed no emotions and it felt like they weren't even there*

Now that Joel thinks about it he did start to notice some hints but he brushed it off chalking it up to stress but before he fell asleep, he started to think to himself when they reach Jackson should he leave you there with Tommy

Daylight approached as you started to wake up to the morning birds singing, as you got up you noticed you were the last to wake up "oh I'm sorry, you should have woken me up, if I was holding us back"

Joel looked at you for a split second "um darling we did it was like you were dead to the world, but now that you're up we can head out"

The three of you started your hike to the river of death, as you were walking, you could feel you were heading back into your daze again but it only lasted for a second cause as you were watching Joel and Ellie look at map trying to figure out where you's were

you heard the galloping and horse's neighing from afar, Joel started to panic and grabbed both yours and Ellie's hand but it was too late to escape as they circled you's, Joel quietly spoke to you and Ellie "stay behind me" then very quickly putting your hands up in the air

"We ain't looking for any trouble we're just passing through" one of the people on the horse points a gun at Joel "drop the gun" Joel compiles to order

You started to count how many people there were trying to think of a plan b in case things go sideways

"You's two take five steps back" you snapped your head towards the guy that ordered you and Ellie to step away from Joel, you compiled but you could feel something gnawing in the back of your mind "Joel and Ellie needs you, you have to protect them at any cost"

You closed your eyes so tightly that it felt like your ears were ringing, you didn't realise what was happening around you until the ringing stopped and all you could hear was Ellie laughing

When you opened your eyes again you were on a horse galloping up to Jackson that was surrounded by a fortress of wood

As you's walked through the gates, looking at all the people working you's all came to a standstill when you heard Joel spot Tommy and yelled out his name

You looked at Tommy with the biggest smile but sad eyes as you hop off the horse you were on and hugged him so tightly that you couldn't tell if he was real

Tommy picked up on that but before he didn't say anything, they were all asked by the woman that brought them here if they would like some food

Joel and Ellie started to eat the food in front of them but for you it was like you were a miles away that you didn't hear most of the conversation between the four of them you only caught bits and pieces like

The woman's name is Maria and she's married to Tommy and Ellie being rude to a girl that was being nosey

Tommy had asked you something but didn't hear him until Ellie kicked you in the shin, that got a reaction out of you as you whipped your head around to look at her "Y/N Tommy asked if you want a tour"

"Oh um yeah sure" you nodded and started to rub your eyes like you felt so exhausted

Maria and Tommy started to show you around the place, you listened to everything that was being said up until Maria ushered you and Ellie away from Joel because Joel wanted to catch up with Tommy

Maria showed you and Ellie the house you'll be living in, you started to look around but the moment Maria left you's two alone, Ellie turned to you

"What the hell was that back at the hall" you looked at Ellie with a confused look "what are you on about"

"That look of annoyance Y/N when I was trying to get your attention" you started to rub your eyes again and to stifle a yawn "well Ellie that's what you get when you kick someone in the shins", "but you weren't responding to Tommy's question"

"That's because I am exhausted and I was tuning things out" Ellie looked at you then muttered "you've been doing that a lot lately"

You stopped rubbing your eyes "What was that", "nothing" Ellie looked away from you as you squinted at her

"Anyway you go and have a shower Ellie I'm going to find Tommy", "wait why do you need to talk to Tommy", "there are some things that I need to talk to him about"

As you were about to leave Ellie asked one more thing "like what", "nothing for you to worry about"

You went looking for Tommy, you were about to give up when you noticed Joel storming out of a bar, that's where you headed

The moment you entered the bar Tommy looked worried like he said the wrong thing cause as you walked up to him he started to apologise for something he didn't mean then he realised you weren't Joel

The both you sat down and had a catch up chat, "so Y/N how's life been keeping ya" you looked at Tommy for a second before giggling to yourself "it's been dandy Tommy" Tommy gave you smile

"Ok Y/N tell me what's actually going on with you" you took a deep breath before telling Tommy "it's happening again Tommy, I feel like at times I'm in a constant sleepwalk state but I'm there but not there feeling and I'm only coming to certain moments"

Tommy looked at you in complete concern "when did it start happening again", "uhh the day we needed a car battery so that day we met Ellie"

Tommy stood up for a second to pace while you stayed seated "does Joel know" you shook your head "no he doesn't and he doesn't need to know"

"Y/N Joel needs to know", "he doesn't need to know because it ain't just that, I keep having this gnawing feeling that something bad is going to happen to them and Joel and Ellie need me, i have to protect them at any cost"

Tommy stopped in place as he looked at you again like he was examining you for something but he was interrupted by you yawning

"but the main reason I haven't told Joel is because I fear he's going to leave me when he learns the truth about me, like when we reunited back then and everything I did to protect you, Tess and Joel”

Tommy walked over to you and gave you a hug and small words of comfort "don't worry Joel isn't going anywhere, he's not going to leave you"

you gave Tommy a comforting smile as you hugged back but you both noticed it was getting dark, you decided to head back home, while Tommy went to find Maria

As you entered the house it was quiet, "hm they both must of still be out, Welp I'll sleep on the sofa until they get back then" but the moment your body layed down on sofa you fell right off to sleep like you were dead to world and nothing was going to wake you up

So you never woke up to Joel and Ellie having an argument or that Joel and Ellie were about to leave but before they left, they spoke in hushed whispers to each other before leaving the house

"Joel why aren't you waking up Y/N", "their going to stay here and Tommy will look after them", "but why", "you told me that they had been acting strange and I think if they stay here they will be fine"

Ellie sighed at Joel "so we're just leaving them, what if they come looking for us instead"

Joel looked at Ellie and didn't think about that then believes Tommy or Maria will stop you "come on we need to head to the stables before Y/N knows we're missing"

Joel and Ellie headed to the stables where Tommy was waiting for them "what took you so long", Ellie was hopping on the horse before responding to Tommy

"We were discussing things about leaving Y/N here" Tommy went wide eyed when hearing this as he looked at Joel "you said you weren't going to abandon them Joel" , "Tommy they have you here to look after them"

Tommy huffed out an angry breath "you've put me in a bad situation and it's only going to get worse" Joel hopped onto the horse with Ellie but she looked at Tommy with a quizzical look and wanted to ask what he meant

But she never got the chance as Tommy opened the gates of Jackson for Joel they were gone and Tommy started to head back towards his house and having now to plan what happens next with you
