sooooo many thoughts on trumps new executive order re: increasing civil commitment & destroying housing first policies but one of my biggest takeaways is that part of the reason it happened is because for years, even the liberal & Democrat discussions about mental health policy have failed to grapple with the reality that involuntary hospitalization is a form of incarceration. it is not an alternative to incarceration, it IS a form of incarceration and it was democratic states like California that pushed on expanding civil commitment in the exact same way first.

I have a million more thoughts I’m going to add on when I’m off work.

every time i have to spend a few minutes in the apartment`s mail room sorting and throwing out scammy credit card offers i wonder how many hours of labor went into the inkmaking, papermaking, graphic design, copy writing, and shipping of trash that is only ever meant to hurt people
