Also please understand that your cat likely will still trying to scratch stuff! So don't give up on training! But I keep seeing things about cats scratching and getting rehomed and like. Please. Talk to your vet, do research, try caps before tossing them into a high-stress environment like a shelter. I am begging you. And add more scratching posts if you don't have enough. I have a tree on each floor of my house with built-in posts plus cheap cardboard scratchers that float around and they've worked incredibly well.
