“Maybe we’ll meet again, when we are slightly older and our minds less hectic, and I’ll be right for you and you’ll be right for me. But right now, I am chaos to your thoughts and you are poison to my heart.”

Idea: Gone But Not Forgotten
Many cultures share the idea that great adventurers and warriors can ascend to the plane of the higher beings, being able to make their mark within the very formation of the mortal plane.
And we, as tabletop gamers, regard our past campaigns with the same excitement and adoration as tales commonly told around ancient campfires of such adventurers.
So… What if the tales of godhood were true, even in our little fantasy worlds?
Imagine: our PCs may die, and campaigns may end, but DMs and GMs who commonly repeat the setting/world in their campaigns may like to give the former PCs similar treatments as beings of legend:
If a campaign ends or a particularly fan-favorite PC dies, what if their presence of this late adventurer lived on in some mechanic in the game?
The exact mechanic could be decided by the PC’s personality, alignment, class, etc., but could have an overall effect on the campaign universe.
Some examples:
Alignment CN:
Ilokas the Half-Elf Warlock was quite the random being, living up to his Chaotic Neutral alignment. After he met an unfortunate end at the hands of a Lich, his decaying body retained some magic power and used it to create the Iloka-S virus, as depicted here:
Tumblr media
The virus may affect any race or class, although it has a particular affinity for magic-users. Its effects are a +3 bonus to the infected being’s magic stat (Charisma if the being is not a magic-user), and a -1 disadvantage to Intelligence (or Strength if the being’s magic stat is Intelligence).
In its higher stages, the virus is known to occasionally cause wild magic outbursts from the infected being, even if the host isn’t magical themselves. Researchers believe this wild magic isn’t at the host’s magic, but the latent wizardry of that unpredictable warlock of the ages.
Alignment LG:
Flower of Ivory, the Tabaxi Ranger, was one of the best survivalists this plane has seen in written history. It was said that Ivory once saved a plague-ridden village by tracking intricate patterns in the pestilence’s smog to the source, the opened coffin of an ancient king amidst the nearby swamp.
Ivory has long since retired of her adventuring and passed on, but her strong relationship and discipline with nature have survived past her own mortality in the form of the Floral Rune:
Tumblr media
The Floral Rune may be carved into wooden or leather components of any equipment, the rune being activated through a ritual. The rune’s enchantments differ depending on the equipment: a being shot with an arrow of a Floral Rune bow has a nontransferable Hunter’s Mark upon them for 3 hours, while a Floral Rune staff may attempt to cast Cure Wounds simultaneously with another spell, whether or not the staff’s owner has learned Cure Wounds or put the spell in their memory.
Alignment LN:
Hiqiroth the Dragonborn Monk had always carried a quiet, respectful aura about him. Even when people feared him for his monstrous appearance, they soon were calmed by the utter tranquility and resolution the monk exuded. Even when he died unfortunately in battle, his soul was so of such resolution and balance that his very focus created a new Plane of Balance:
Tumblr media
The Plane of Balance has no native inhabitants to date. However, particular magic-users have found a moment’s intersection of the Plane of Balance and our own holds very interesting effects: enveloping two beings within such a crossing can even the odds in battle, and those who , while not fighting, are rather feuding with one another amidst the Plane of Balance’s effects feel their tempers lessen and start seeing illusions that speak the other’s argument in a new way, helping both sides understand the other argument.
Supposedly, some monk factions have taken to learning how to cross the two planes themselves, as the monks’ meditation is much more efficient in such an environment.
Alignment LE:
Malagard Zolael the Drow Necromancer was commonly thought insane by peers and passerby. While the field of necromancy is already enough to make one a social outcast, Malagard wished to take it even further: ranting about how he wished to pierce the veil of death with such perfect technique that a risen body becomes much more like a living being than the brainless, shuffling undead Necromancers are known for. He claimed he could make a being far superior to any created by the Pantheon.
He died in battle, at the blade of a paladin for his heresy against the gods. It’s said that, as he was struck down, a dark smoke was released from him and shot towards the sky, culminating into a tar-like, bubbling mass before bursting and shooting across the sky in every direction.
Not long after the incident, the darker corners of the world started to hear whispers of beings seeming to lose their mind, taking up necromancy and partaking in some rather malignant rituals. Eventually, their collective evils were given a name: the Zolael Initiative, whose “Zolaelite” members left only an insignia wherever they struck:
Tumblr media
In recent days, it’s said the cult has finally found their “one true leader,” whose appearance seems incapable of being described with mere words. All that is ever said about this new ruler is that they are loyal to the cause, they have a personal connection to Malagard, … and they do not look like a product of the Gods.
🌟
… Sorry I haven’t been online for a while, ladies, gents, and otherwise called. I’ve been busy with school, and I am only now starting Thanksgiving Break.
I hope this slightly longer post makes up for my absence, and I wish you all a happy Thanksgiving and - as always - happy gaming~!
