we're getting the new taylor music video in the beginning of the VMA's but honestly I want it at the end bc that would be two hours of Katy Perry having to hype it up which would be hilarious

remember after the trial when taylor literally said that she recognizes how privileged she is and how she wants to help those who are less privileged and everyone just,, ignored it?

yknow what else abusers use? “stop playing the victim.” if we’re going to discuss like… abuse… and how it manifests maybe you should start with examining how “playing the victim” was a good concept that is now exploited by abusers to keep their victims in line. abuse in real life is complicated. you absolutely cannot accuse taylor swift of abuse for simply uttering the words “look what you made me do” esp in a song that has her metaphorically killing herself in a desperate bid to escape abuse.

Here is what I really don’t understand about Taylor-haters, this time around: 

1. Comparing her to Beyonce and saying that Beyonce is superior

First of all, we haven’t seen the entire video and have no idea if it is anything like Formation! Also when did Beyonce get to be the only artist to have dancers standing in the line? Like it’s so stupid. In my opinion, both are great female artists, who are doing their own music and creating their own art. Beyonce is an incredible woman of color, all the power to her, she’s a queen. And guys.. I’m pretty sure Taylor knows she can’t dance like Beyonce...

2. Comparing her to Kesha/not comparing her.. I dont know what you guys want here

I’ve seen some people/fans of Kesha bash Taylor in order to make Kesha seem better and others saying that Swifties aren’t allowed to compare what happened to Taylor to what happened to Kesha. First of all, what Kesha went through is a bigger crime that what happened to Taylor, and Kesha is so strong and I admire her so much and the justice system failed her. But there is no need to bash Taylor in order to make Kesha seem better. Honestly, I think it undermines Kesha’s strength and her battle. Let her stand alone in her glory after her comeback, don’t drag Taylor into it. 

Also Taylor donated 250 000 dollars to Kesha to help with her legal battles, but was dragged for that, because everything the does is wrong apparently. I’m pretty sure that money was more helpful to Kesha then if Taylor had tweeted about it (she probably would have been dragged for tweeting about it to). Kesha has also tweeted that she will always support Taylor, and I’m pretty sure she dosen’t want her fans to drag a woman who has helped her in the past. 

Basically I love Beyonce, Kesha and Taylor, and they are all incredible in their own way, and I just want the best for all of their careers. There is no need to drag other women down in order to further another. 

3. SHE PLAYS THE VICTIM CARD!!!11!!!!11111!!!!

I will fully accept that Taylor has played the victim card before and I’m not saying that that is right. Taylor is problematic, and I’m aware and I acknowledge that.  But sometimes that victim card is justified - like when she was in an emotionally abuse relationship with John Mayer when she was 19 and wrote Dear John about it. 

4. WHITE FEMINIST!1!!11111!!!!!!

Sure, during the Nicki-drama she had, she was very much a white feminist, and I’m not claiming that Taylor’s feminism is perfect at all. A lot of people also claim she isn’t a feminist because she is trying to tear down Katy Perry. First of all, Taylor hasn’t mentioned Katy by name, it’s Katy that is always bringing it up in order to boost her sales. Second, you are allowed not to like someone if you feel they have wronged you.

But Taylor just went through a public trial, after the guy who sexually assaulted her sued her, to prove a point that sexual assault/harassment isn’t okay. That was incredibly strong and important, as he was counting on her just settling the case so that he could get rich on sexually assaulting her. She also checked her privilege in the statement she made afterwards, and only sued back for 1 dollar and him having to be guilty of sexual harassment. Like in my mind that was badass!

5. She only has white straight teenage girls fans

This is so dismissive of fans that aren’t white teen girls? Like there are obviously people of all backgrounds, skin colors, sexualities, ages, genders that support her, and I hope they don’t feel excluded because everyone is invited to enjoying someones music. 

I’m sorry this got so long, but I just had a lot of thoughts on the matter. And sometimes I just want to listen to some music I really like without feeling like I need to defend it all the time.
